What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

It's Rude to Stare

Even if the shower cake IS modeled after the guest of honor's ginormous rack.

I have a confession to make: I really don't like attending baby showers. There's all the frippy little decorations, lots of cooing "mom" types, and those obligatory shower games which were undoubtably invented by a woman on the verge of a murder/suicide. However, I think this cake would liven up your average baby shower. I mean, just watching a room full of women in flamingo capris and sun dresses trying to compliment, much less cut, this cake would be bona fide entertainment. "Why, Doris" (looking mom-to-be up and down) "it looks just like you! Er, would you like a slice of boobie?"

Thanks to Kate E. for the photo!

When I was still working, I always went to the office baby showers, but I let my wife have fun picking out the gift we gave. Yes, my wife did enjoy that. I am a man, but I actually enjoyed attending those baby showers and even wedding showers. It was nice to see the mother-to-be or the bride-to-be so happy that she glowed with it. We always had a potluck lunch as part of it and I would bring something to contribute to that, too. No using the excuse that I'm a guy, so I don't have to contribute food! In fact, several of the ladies I worked with enjoyed speculating on what food item I would bring and I often surprised them.

At the last baby shower I attended before I retired, I was surprised to learn just how much my attendance and our gifts were appreciated. My wife got into the habit of buying all kinds of different baby safety goodies--things to keep the baby out of the cabinets, the electric sockets and things like that. That time, she was not feeling well, so she got something different. I made her feel good when I told her that her penchant for giving baby safety products had become so well appreciated that the women at work had come to depend on getting those from me and this mother-to-be was actually disappointed that I had given her something else! BTW, my wife often had to hunt around in several stores to find all of the safety goodies that went into our gift bundle.

This cake is obviously by and for men :P

This is what would happen at a baby shower for the father! "Everybody check out my hot pregnant wife and how huge her boobs have got!"

The Worst thing is, however ironic or distasteful that cake idea might be, the decorator/baker did a REALLY GOOD job at it!! The designs and proportions, even colors, are awesome!

You know, all jokes aside...now I really want flamingo capris so that people will look at me as I stomp down the street and wonder where it all went so wrong.
