What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

- Jen

What's This?

Earlier today John had the song "What's This?" from Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in his head.

After looking at these Wrecks, now *I* do.

What's this? What's this?
There's color everywhere

What's this?
There's white things in the air

What's this?

It's orange and so hairy - what's the deal with those two berries? I don't care!
What's this?

What's this? What's this?
I can't believe my eyes,

What's this?
A donkey tank surprise?

What's this? A swirly mass so curly, could the purple be too girly? Should this song be ending early? No we're going 'til we hurl-y!!

What's this?

Could it be, oh could it be? Did I get my wish?

Here's something that makes sense: a meteorite bird fiiiish!

What's this?

What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong!

What's this? That blue thing's really long.

What's this?

It's positively crappy, and yet I feel so happy, have I possibly gone sappy? I think I need a nappy 'cuz this song is kind of rappy so I guess I'll get a frappey and go shopping at the Gappy...

S.K., Patrick T., Chris E., Reagan B., Rebekah W., Austin L., Alex S., Kaylyn M., & Mikaela, your guess is as good as mine.

Oh, and for your continued "enjoyment" I have a special treat today: while we were writing this post, John & #1 (aka "the other Jen") kept singing it to get the cadence right. really entertaining.

So, I decided to tape them.

There were a few interruptions, but overall I think you'll find their don't have the volume up too loud, k?

(If you're wondering what my contribution is here, I'm the one doing the scrolling. And giggling.)

Update from john: Please note that no animals were harmed during the making of this video. :)

Walter Bean: I want an FSM cake!

The first one is perfect for clown week, as that technicolor poo could have only been deposited by a clown...

I can see the creativity in the comet bird/fish, though it is odd. But the extra cupcakes with the leaves and the little eyes are really weird! What are those supposed to be? And WHY!!!!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLindsey T

For the first one, considering the rainbow colouring and the swirl, isn't it a pile of unicorn poo?

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJeff

I love them. The look fun, cheerful,n personal and made with love. Something a lot of those posh pretty cakes don't have.

If it were my birthday I'd love one of these over one of those bakery ones. At least somebody cared more about me than just to buy me stuff

I was thinking the first one might be what happens when you follow the skittles commercial and actually taste the rainbow.

August 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDanElman

Was the video removed? I don't see any video in the post.

August 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBonnie

Loved the video! I really do have to stop reading the comments, though- the amount of people who just don't get it makes me way too depressed.

Fantastic post! Impressive singing voices and irony all rolled into a Cake blog. Oh happy days... I can't believe you didn't crack up after the phone call (or was it edited out?). Just fantastic!

August 9, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I think this has to be my favorite CW post ever. I'm going to be singing "donkey tank surprise" all day. Love it...all of it.

August 9, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

And I almost cry laughed when she got off the phone.

And your the wingbeats of angels wafting joy down to us in envelopes of warm melted butter.

August 18, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterderek

I think the orange furry one is the weight-watchers "hungry" thing.

August 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBloodyWits

That first one looks like someone's fed food dye to their dog.

August 19, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterszaleniec1000

January 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

March 22, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterpianoplayer373

Hilarious video! Is it just me, or is the phone call taken from a scene in Devil Wears Prada? And "#1"'s singing voice sounds suspiciously like Ann Hathaway...hmmm

March 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

the first one is unicorn poop : )

March 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I loved the little Wicked intro to the video... It made me think that you all get to hang out singing songs from musicals, looking at hilariously terrible cakes, and making up silly songs.

I tip my hat to the three of you!

May 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

and now the song is stuck in my head.. something like the orange thing was trying to escape a tupperware container in my fridge last time i peered in there...
