What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Cake Takes

I know this will come as a shock, but I see a lot of cake photos. Sometimes these photos also have people in them, reacting to their cake. Hilariously. Like so:

 "Gee, Mom. You shouldn't have."

Personally, I like a cake with enough flotsam to hide a small child:

 "Clarissa? Clarissa! Where are you?"

And my personal favorite:

Because sometimes a hamburger cake is the BEST DAMN THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN.

Thanks to Celeste R., Camille S., & Juliana B. for expressing themselves. Oh, and if you have a funny cake take to share - regardless if the cake is good, bad, or homemade - send it to me so I can share with the rest of the class, won't you?

Why did you move!??

[Editor's note- Well, over the past three years, we have received hundreds and hundreds of emails and comments from people who either couldn't view the site or the pictures or both. Six months ago, our biggest fan, my mom, told me that the public library where she volunteers had blocked blogspot sites from their computers and I realized it was time for a change. Our new host, Squarespace has excellent customer support, a great design system and they are hosted on Amazon's S3 servers which are the best out there. With any luck, everyone should be able to see the site again. Which is pretty cool.]

Hey - at least it isn't the creepy insurance ads that you get on the Weather Channel Desktop!

"auiexxxzzzxxxiooooeiaaaau!" What the little girl in the last pic said when she saw her cake.

Fixed, yay! Definitely worth the wait :)

I've been racking my brain because the first girl reminds me of someone. I finally realized who. The little girl in the Trigon commercial talking about the snotty doctor.

I can just hear her: "Once I went to this snotty baker. She was a beautiful baker, but she was snotty. She was young and beautiful. She had wed wipstick and stuff. And then, and then, she took..., all she did to my cake, right, she stuck some dots and stuff on it, right. All she did was stick the top of a doll in my cake, right. When Momma said, 'Can you make it with normal appendages?' She said 'We don't do normal appendages he-uh.'

Forget the cake. What about the terrifying patchworky sweater on whoever's holding the burger cake in picture 3? It's a Frankensteinian tour of a pattern book.

Love #3.

A picture is truly worth a thousand words.

Thanks for the reply - I will not complain further about the ads, since you need to keep eating in order to post! Cakewrecks is a daily stop for me!

I attempted to make pancakes the other morning and flapnuggeted the darn thing when I flipped it. My kids hate cooked-flapnuggeted pancake globs because they're too chewy.
You guys make me laugh everytime I view this website, thanks!

That first cake makes me think of Joan of Arc, if she'd dressed up for her martyrdom like a Gone With the Wind extra.

And not that this clears anything up, but I think the 2nd decorator writes the r's in cursive. That answers one question, but raises another.

Love these pix, thanks much! Makes me want to dig out the old photo albums...

BTW, I keep randomly getting dumped to a page that asks for a login when I'm just trying to view the page. I'm using Opera 11.50.

@Barbara Anne - I'm late responding, but I immediately got that song stuck in my head. Gee thanks. :p

[From john (thoJ)- Can you email me with as much info as possible? Thanks.]

OMG awesome!! This reminds me of that awesome picture of the girl screaming crying at her cake and the kitten popping out of it holding up the sign "You're adopted!" LOVE that!

Oh man! Push it into the '90s and that girl in pic #1 could have been me.

My mother was severely disappointed for YEARS that her only daughter turned out to be a pink-hating, frilly-lace-destroying, dress-refusing mouthy goth tomboy. I, on the other hand, was very secure in this identity and acted to eliminate threats to it with the zeal of your average seeker missile.

That cake would have been on the floor before anyone would have had a chance to take a picture!

O, syllable count,
when I break you, you will say,

(Please, be considerate. Use authentic German pronounciation.)
