What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

A Healthy Appetite

So, Wreckies, how are those get-healthy New Year's resolutions going?

Mine are going GREAT. Here, let me run down my list with you:

1) Eat more greens

(Look, it has real lettuce on it. Of COURSE it's a salad.)

2) Also eat more fruit

(Granted, green grapes and chocolate icing aren't really my thing, but I'm committed this time, guys. I'm gonna see this through.)

And speaking of seeing things "through"...

3) Start an Activia video diary like Jamie Lee Curtis told me to

Er... Ok, I'm actually a little "behind" on this one, [BWAHAHAHAA POOP JOKE] but it looks like this guy has gotten a "head" start:

I bet he's calling Jamie on his banana phone right now to tell her the good news!

4) Avoid pasta

(That's the new "I CAN believe it's not pasta!" from Duncan Hines. It's also gluten-free! Which means it's, like, TWICE as healthy.)

5) Eat more fiber

You'll never believe this, but after I wash the polyester fuzz down with some milk, I'm actually completely stuffed!

And my final get-healthy resolution:

6) Start running!

Thanks to Tianna B., Rachel T., Sara R., Laura P., Patti M., & Greg B. for keeping me on track.

Btw, if you want MORE running inspiration, check out the rest of artist Scott Hove's "Cakeland" exhibit. [shudder]

I can't get over the "nest of grapes," it's so gross-looking... the way some of the grapes are sliding down the outside of the cake, trying to escape their fate... I bet they're squishy, sour green grapes too. Much scarier than the fang-cake.

Tears are still flowing! Funny captions. I think the animals are in sugar comas.

Aw, my favorite - fuzzy polyester animal cake. I can hardly wait for Easter.

Never mind the fuzzy animal cake, or any of these. Or Easter. I just went out to the (real) chickenyard, and there, on the ground ... was... the. spaghetti. cake.

WHA the heck is #6!?

As for the asian bakery cake - seriously, take the lettuce off and the sponge cake with fruit is seriously good!

That spaghetti cake looks awful, but I can almost guarantee it's still better than actual gluten free pasta. Still wouldn't eat it, though.

I wonder how it taste like for hamburgers to be the cake.

I realise this entire post is meant to be taken as humor, but I'd like to point out that gluten-free isn't any more healthy than regular anything. I should know because I am forced to eat gluten-free (I'm Celiac). Actually, most of the gluten-free things I have seen actually have more sugar loaded into them because they taste awful otherwise. Just thought I'd clear that up. ;P

@Anonymous -- have to agree on the gluten-free pasta.

@Barbara Anne -- MelindaB started that. I'll accept credit for the laugh assist, though.

Ugh! That whole site is just wrong on so many levels! What the hell is the point if its not real cake? Although I do see the irony of having sculptures resembling cake rather than cake that resembles sculptures. Still, what kind of twisted childhood did this guy have? Did his mom set the guard dog on him every time he tried to stick his fingers in his birthday cake? What does the guy have against babies?! And whats with the feet?! Talk about taking a foot fetish to the next level. Still I would give the guy props for the shocking, but "outside the box" designs if it were ACTUAL CAKE. Instead its just horror inducing BLASPHEMY!

Holy crap! That last cake looks like it's going to eat you before you can eat it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one horrified by the yogurt commercial asking for video diaries about regularity. TMI! TMI!

In defense of the spaghetti cake - my mom made one for my stepdad years ago. She used a mound cake pan (like the ones they use for barbie dress cakes), and covered it with thinly piped frosting. The meatballs were chocolate and the spaghetti sauce was strawberry jam.

It was fantastic.
