What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Wrecky Replay: Taking the Mickey Out of 'Em

Everybody sing!

Who's the one that can't be made

into a CCC?

And who's the one that looks like he

Would like to break your knees?

Mickey Mouse!

We think that's him!

Mickey Mouse!

Orange you glad?

Bump badump badump badump baDUMP!!

[Singing slower with sad faces]
Who's the leader of the cluuub...

That's maaade for you and meeee?

"C" is for "copyright violation!"

Why? WHY? WHY?!?

Ted, Shelly, Dana C., Amanda L., Colleen B., Stephanie, Jennifer D., & Dana C., I think the creepy tongue adds character. *Badumpbum* And in all fairness, that last one could be a really, really bad Princess Leia cake.

Hey guys,

Sorry about the replay but we just finished a 13 hour drive and we're literally pooped. Literally. There's poop everywhere. Jen! Where did all this poop come from?!

This was worth a replay.
I accidentally enlarged the last one and almost fell off of my chair.

I kind of like transgender Mickey (number 6,) although he/she looks a little miffed.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

That last one looks like Mickey had a secret affair with Princess Leia (shudder...

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCalum

Hey John (thoJ),

Maybe it's mouse droppings. Any of these Mickeys would certainly be improved by dropping.

(Now, where'd you go? Did you drive to Wisconsin for cheese curds?)

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

What's with Happy Birthday and Chriss on the first one?? Did they mean Aunt Chris??

It's scary that a CCC was the, um, best, of the bunch. O_O

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteremmbeedee

the last one looks like Mickey impersonating Elvis ...hunka hunka...Mickey has left the building....

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjuliebt

The fourth cake is Minnie and Mighty Mouse's love child, Mooney Mouse. Mickey is really lighting firecrackers in his ear- he never did like that kid!!!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkwege

No, no, no. That final one is ET in a Geisha costume.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLily

Theme and variations....always a classic!

Is it really a copyright violation if it looks nothing like the original? These cakes are just sad.

I was amazed at the various tongues in these, so I looked at images of Mr. Mouse on line, and there really is a tongue visible. I never noticed it, that will be all I see when I look at him.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbassgirl

Aww, get some rest you crazy kids. No need to apologize for taking care of yourselves!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJenRo

I was looking through the archilves yesterday and looked at this one. So I was disappointed when this one popped up today. lol I was setting there wondering if I had somehow accidently clicked on the archives.

Anyway, since I was not around when this archive was posted the first time I will just make a comment on it or two.

My first though was the parents must have let the kids make the cakes themselves. And what is up with the lime green Micky Mouse. Did he get into some kind of Radio active material? That last one doesn't even look like a mouse. I don't know what you would call that. What ever you call it, it has some kind of weird hair due rather than black mouse ears. And that first one looks like Minnie mouse and goofy and a thing going and this is what their off spring looks like. Has the ears and some what the features of a mouse, but a long face like goofy and that goofy grin. lol

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTerrie

That last cake reminds me of Michael Jackson

When I Look Upon Your Site

When I look upon your site
Suppressing laughs takes all my might
Anything I might desire
Now looks like poo

Rolled fondant or buttercream
Each result is SO extreme
When I look upon your site
(I daily do)

Strikes me blind
Dessert that needs much love
Brings the fulfillment of
Demented cackling

Like a bolt out of the blue
Cake steps in and runs me through
When I look upon your site
My laugh rings true

That's okay, kids.... It's just Anything Can Happen Day! Right?

As a charter member of the Mickey Mouse Club (yes, the Original one), all I can say is, "Where's Mickey?" These must have been made by "Donald Duck! Donald Duck!"

That last one looks like the Michael Jackson of Mickey Mouse cakes. Almost recognizable, but not quite...

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterFlartus

NP, and really? lol

Anyway, just wondering why Mickey (?) #3 has a martini ear-ring?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiana

Can we talk about the message in the first one "Happy Birthday and Chriss". And what?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPJ

Literally pooped?
Are you saying your writing

I have been meaning to tell you that I wish I had pictures of some of the wrecks that I have made myself and have encounter over the years. When I was about fourteen I made a cake for my little sister's Birthday and it turned out to be the worst looking birthday cake ever, but I was so proud of that thing. She was into baby dolls at the time and I made a chocolate cake and took one of her naked babies and plopped it in the middle and wrote happy birtday underneath in very messy handwritting I might add. Her reaction. She thought we were going to eat her baby. lol

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTerrie

I'm still trying to figure out why the one says "Happy Birthday AND Chriss" Please tell me there is another name we can't see....

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterfunnylooking

Does the first one say "Happy Birthday and Chriss" and if so what does that mean???

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterM

Ha! The first time around I didn't notice the cake board writing in the first picture. It says, "Happy Birthday and Chriss." Was it supposed to be Aunt Kris? Was there some additional message meant to be given to Chriss? We may never know.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterM. Dale

Am I the only one that sees "happy buttholay" on the second cake?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLepid

You know they're bad when the best one of the bunch is the CCC (ptooie!)!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMargaret

NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!!! My Disney hurts!!! Although I like the new words to the Mickey Mouse March! "who's the one who can't be made into a ccc..." I'll be singing it all day!! M-I-C.....

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMickey

The orange one looks more like Mighty Mouse, or am I the only one old enough to remember him?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBrisdmek

I can imagine being a mom when ordering the first cake and saying "I want it to say Happy Birthday and Chriss" that's the only explanation I can think of...
I laughed out loud when someone said the last one looks like Michael kind of does.
You always bring joy and gladness to my work day!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterOmnom

The lime green cake looks like it started out as Goofy then the wreckerator re-read the order and changed it to Mickey.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSM3

Anyone else....Elvis Mickey on that last one..............

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSpacehaze

Dear Jen and John (thoj)

Thank You for cakewrecks!

We might cry if you missed a day (post) but it wouldn't be the end of the world. We would hate to stress you out then loose you. Life happens...if you can't get to the's OK! Perhaps find a guest blogger for the day(s) that you can't reach us? I'd volunteer but I'm not as "punny" as you guys.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEla

As I looked at these
All I could think about was
Black Icing ears - Yuck!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenternepetacataria

The third one reminds me of Felix the Cat.

I think Wyatt's cake looks like a cross between Mighty Mouse and Betty Boop.

Haiku Joy and Sharyn, on top form as always!

@Lepid: Sounds like something Beavis and Butthead would say. Perhaps the wreckerator is a fan?

@John(thoJ): Did you bring the cats? Perhaps all that poop is your "Welcome Home Don't Ever Leave Us Behind Again And Where's My Blasted Souvenir" present...?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

@ Brisdmek- I'm old enought to remember Mighty Mouse (I'm also old enough to forget he existed until someone reminds me!) The orange one does kind of resemble Mighty Mouse-particularly the 80's Mighty Mouse. I'm old enough to remember the original, but I remember him in black and white!
Anyway, whoever comes to save the day, the cake's a bit of a mess.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

The orange one looks more like the Baltimore Orioles bird than it does Mickey Mouse.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWill

#1 When placing a phone order, always remember that the person on the other end can't see your 'air quotes'. Thus, everything after "I want it to say," is what will appear on the cake. Avoiding that can make for some major verbosity, which is why I try to order everything in person or in writing. Or both. And draw pictures, if I think it will help. (Oy)

#6 is dangerously close to Pedobear.

Replays are cool. Look at it this way: you have an archive big enough that you can do that from time to time without it being obvious. It's new to anyone who hasn't been here long or who hasn't gone through the archive like some of us have. Lately. It was new to me (whew).

I'll gladly take a repeat from time to time over no new material at all. Or worse, to one day have the URL return 404... [stares into abyss and shudders]

Seriously, life happens. We're down with it. I am, anyway.

Apropos of nothing, are there any votive candles in the bunker? Someone was asking.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

AAAAAGGGHHH! That green one looks like his ear is growing out of his cheek!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMrs. Sparkle

As the parent of a 2 year old, I can tell you that the green one is supposed to be Martian Mickey, the Mickey lookalike that lives on Mars. Three years ago I wouldn't have had such knowledge....

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHai Dee

@ Sharyn, I love looking forward to your clever comments.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Mickey #1 looks like he's had some work done - he never had a chin before. I guess he's been in Hollywood too long...

And a big YES for the Mighty Mouse cake - I thought the same thing! :)

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermichelej

@J(thoJ) I don't like doing 13 hours of anything so you know I'm cool with a replay!

@Craig there are no votive candles but there is an "and Chriss" scribbled on the wall. And the last person out forgot to turn off the lights.

I'm pretty sure that last cake is actually a tribute to the local legend Leslie here in Austin...who passed away recently and left Austin a little less weird...

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebTX

The orange one looks like I did with self tanner when it first came out!! <BLUSH>

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErica

The last one looks like Michael Jackson!!! Extremely scary!! Actually a couple of them look like Michael Jackson. You don't think that is what he was aiming for with all those surgeries do you? I never realized the resemblance until now!

Epic Fail Mickey 2: The Power of Poo?

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErwinM

Many people don't know this but Mickey likes to hang out with Snookie by the Jersey shore...

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commentersbsnow

This is hilarious! And good gravity?! Any 13 hr. drive is worth flying, imho hahaha esp. if there's some kind of...trash..involved.

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

I think that last one is my favorite wreck ever...I have not laughed that hard at any other cake. It's the tongue. THE TONGUE!

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJJ

Also the orange one looks like it should be in Rage Comics...

March 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJJ

You know, I also thought the last one looked like an Elvis impersonator. Now I'm going to have creepy dreams of a Mickey Mouse-Elvis impersonator hybrid.... *shudder.*
