Darth Vader Gets Wrecked
August 24, 2012 This weekend John and I are attending Star Wars Celebration here in Orlando, so of course I have to honor the occasion the best way I know how:
![]()
...by mercilessly mocking Darth Vader cakes.
This one, for example, looks like a codfish.
Granted, I don't actually know what a codfish looks like, but I imagine it must be kind of silly and wet-looking, which makes them practically twins.
Wait - I just realized there's no "t" in "scruffy-looking nerf herder."
Ok, it fits it to a "scruffy-looking"
When I was a kid I found this nifty stone-texture spray paint at Home Depot, and proceeded to paint everything I could get my hands on, including my room's wall switches, door handles, and lamps. My parents were lucky people, y'all. Anyway, apparently this baker had the same fascination:
But at least this one is icing. So you really can't take it for granite.
(HEYO.)
Speaking of stone, I'm not sure what happened to this Darth:
...but it looks like he's having an avalanche.
And here's the one they found flattened under the rubble:
This is technically the best Darth of the bunch, and that's really saying something:
Something about sweat, and tears, and purple poo.
(Oh, you've never eaten a bunch of black fondant before? Then never mind.)
I saved my favorite for last, of course.
("I've got a bad feeling about this...")
Presenting....
Darth Droopy!
"Heavy bweathing."
You know what? That makes me sad.
Oh, and if you're also at Star Wars Celebration this weekend, be sure to look for me and John! I think you're going to like the little pins I'm giving away:
:D
Hey Heather S., Arielle C., Luci, Brenda J., Clare, Leah S., & Julie Anne D., who's your daddy?

I think the flat one is actually supposed to be a representation of Stewie as Darth Vader from the Family Guy Star Wars episodes. :-)
Here are a couple of pics so you can compare:

Isolder74, you're thinking of an Ood. I thought it looked like one too!
As for the one with "May the force be with us" underneath it, it looks just like Stewie Griffin as Darth in the Family Guy Star Wars parodies.
I'm still trying to forget the effects of eating concentrated black icing. The cake looked like an oil slick. The after effects were...not pretty.
The squashed Darth looks like the Stewie Darth Vader in all of the Family Guy Star Wars episodes.
Love the Darth Vader/My Little Pony pins. My daughter collects My Little Ponys and her birthday is today. Is there any way to buy one of these for her? (She turned 33 today by the way - never too old for My Little Ponys.) :-)
@TheGreatWhiteDope, loving the Mystery Men reference. The Blue Raja is awesome!
"Your boy's a Limey fork-flinger mother, hard cheese to swallow I know, but there it is. What will the bridge club think?"
HEY!!! you made pins of my daughter's birthday cake from last year!!!!!! OMG, how AWESOME! OK, so now we need one.... :) Sarah would be reeeeeeallly happy.....as would i!!!
Now, as for the poor Vader cakes..... i feel bad for them. They look so...sad somehow :(
Say what you will about Darth Codfish, but the doily he's sitting on makes it that much more special.
All those poor Vader cakes look like they have seen Medusa and turned to stone lol. Except that scared one that's melting. He probably saw something he shouldn't have and now he will be no more. Poor Darth. I really hope someone chased the wreckerators although that second one was kinda cute lol.
Mel, the "Falker Satherhood" comment is golden. You win the thread!
And thal1321, "Darth Zoidberg" is awesome, too.
Actually, I like the 'under the rubble' cake best. It looks less like the disaster of an amateur and more like an actually cute cake that just unfortunately sat in the sun too long. The 'under the rubble' cake is actually iced pretty well. If you compare them to the rest of the 'slop-it-on uneven-icing dripping-shiny-and-unappetizing' cakes, I think I'd rather eat the 'under the rubble' cake.
As a fellow former skipper, I always love the randomly sprinkled in Jungle Cruise joke.
I turns your poo purple? Ours turned flourescent green....
That first one looks more like Bane than Darth Vader...
The third one looks like the Wilton pan with that granite texture paint from Home Depot :)
the second cake looks more like Skeletor to me than Darth Vader.. Purple/Black fondant is kind of disgusting, and I have no desire to eat any of these cakes.
Read to the tune of the nursery rhyme "This is the house that Jack built".
This is Darth, with marshmallows three
This is Darth, with circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, gray and black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, with long robe crinkled
that viewed Darth, gray black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, with mouth compressed
that peeked at Darth, robe crinkled
that viewed Darth, gray black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, with face helmet best
that took in Darth, mouth compressed
that peeked at Darth, robe crinkled
that viewed Darth, gray black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, with look gloomy gus
that sighed at Darth, face helmet best
that took in Darth, mouth compressed
that peeked at Darth, robe crinkled
that viewed Darth, gray black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
This is Darth, riding a Pegasus
that chased Darth, gloomy gus
that sighed at Darth, face helmet best
that took in Darth, mouth compressed
that peeked at Darth, robe crinkled
that viewed Darth, gray black sprinkled
that watched Darth, circles and hoodie
that stared at Darth, marshmallows three
If I were anywhere need you I'd been headin' down to get one of those pins for my 3yr old granddaughter! She'd love that!
The first Darth looks like the Sutton Hoo helmet! And Darth Droopy seems so happy compared to the rest. : D
The first one looks like he got the lower half of his face caught in the doors as he was trying to get off the bus.
I have to cast an "Aye" vote for making those pins available to us. They are awesome! A pin? Coffee cup? T-shirt? Anything!
I HATE WORKING DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM A NIGHT SHIFTER THROUGH AND THROUGH!!!!! [i just switched at the beginning of the month and it is freakin me out!!!!] I miss SOOOOOOOO many important things,,,,,,, including the latest CW posts!!!!!!!!!!! Now I don't get them until they are really old news!!
ARGH I'm so jealous of the buttons....totally didn't know you were there til now :( :( Didja see George Lucas on Saturday? :D He's a ninja.
Also, those cakes make me sad...but the Vader the 501st had was fantabulous! At least according to the pictures. I did not see it in person :(
You made pins out of that awesome little girl's cake! SO UNFAIR!!! I NEED one but am in Las Vegas. :( Do a girl a favor and send her one?? Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase.
@CatTrampoline - I got it! You are *so* right! Been many years since I had geology & did lapidary but I still love rocks & ID'ing them... :-)
I havent eaten a lot of black fondant, but I do know what happens when you eat even medium size piece of blue velvet cake. I now try to steer people away from cakes like that, but it is hard to make it clear why in a delicate environment.
Just a head's up, that My Little Pony/Darth Vader design wasn't orginal to the cake wrecker. It was taken from an original artwork from an artist in my hometown. I can't remember the artist's name or find their site right now, I just want to caution against using the image for profit.
[Editor's note- It's an interesting case actually. One of our readers was inspired by the original artwork, made a cake out of it and submitted it to us. At that point, the cake became original artwork since it's inspired but not an exact copy. Cake copyrights are a weird and confusing thing. Regardless, we're not actually selling the pins we made so there's not problem with profit in this case. Thanks for the heads up, john]
Let's pretend that the squashed one is actually Dark Helmet from Spaceballs.
Some are reposts, still awesomely wrecked.
The truly sad part is not one of them was made using the Darth Vader bust cake pan. Many of my first 10 birthday cakes were made in that cakepan or my C3PO or R2-D2.
