Mist Marx

And once again, everyone's* favorite:

MISSED MARKS!!!

(*May not be your favorite. You may prefer cakes that look like wangs. Which is totally cool. Weirdo.)

Ashton H. wanted a pretty princess carriage like this:

...but I think she picked it up after midnight.

Womp WOMP.

Felicia F. ordered this stunner for her Uncle's birthday:

FeliciaFar.ow.wanted.jpg

"I like... GOOOOLD!"

But instead, she just got stunned:

Shoulda gone with a schmoke an' a pancake.

Also, sometimes I like to amuse myself by referencing Austin Powers villains.
Because everyone needs a hobby.

Jyoti K. asked for this adorable princess cake:

D'awww.

But instead, got this:

D'aaaaauuuugh!

Nicholas W. actually had his baker send HIM this photo, saying this is what the cake would look like:

NicholasWhi.ow.inspiration.jpg

Nice!

Soooo...

Turns out...

NicholasWhi.ow.result.jpg

It didn't really look like that.

And finally, Roshnid H. ordered this peacock cake:

Now, I know what you're thinking.

You're thinking, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Roshnid's cake ended up looking like the Loch Ness monster with a bunch of shaving cream on its nose?"

Well, my friend, YOU ARE IN LUCK.

Because yes:

RoshnidHil.ow.missedmarkreceived.jpg

Yes, it would.

Thanks to Ashton H., Felicia F., Jyoti K., Nicholas W., & Roshnid H., who suspects that may actually just be a floating log - but WE BELIEVE.

Sunday Sweets Celebrates A Hodgepodge Of Happy

Anyone else finding it hard to focus lately?

This past week I've been so scattered I couldn't even settle on a theme for today's Sweets. So after hours of frustration, I gave up and decided to embrace the meanderings of my beleaguered brain. That's right, you're getting 11 happy cakes I absolutely love, but with ZERO theme. Just enjoy the ride.

 Starting with this technicolor beauty:

 (Blissfully Sweet Cakes, Australia)

That grid work over that subtle yellow ombre is so modern and funky, love it.

Then there's a topiary-with-a-twist:

(OC Cake Studio, NJ - permanently closed)

Butterflies and white poppies and itty bitty bees, OH MY.

These goldfish are really living up to their name:

(Gata Chocolata, Russia)

These textures are incredible: not just the brassy gold, but also that velvety dark blue. It looks like it's made of tiny pebbles!

These lacy pastels made my jaw drop:

(Cakes By Hanaan, Sydney)

They look like actual lace! And the seafoam green underneath is dreamy.

I'll always have a special place in my heart for all-buttercream designs:

It's amazing how just shifting the stripes on each tier gives it a topsy turvy feel.

Speaking of stripes:

(The Rolling Pin, Toronto)

I REALLY LOVE STRIPES.

Especially when they come with bright orange, pink, and lilac flowers.

More incredible texture:

(Couture Cakes by Olga, Sri Lanka)

There's something about cobalt blue and metallic gold together that's just SO good.

Back to pastels with this tumbling teacup design:

(Jarka Sipkora)

I stared at this cake at full size for a loooong time, but I STILL couldn't be sure if all the flowers were sugar or real. Turns out, some are wafer paper (like the pink one in the very center), but the rest are buttercream! AMAZING.

Here comes a love letter to pop art and Andy Warhol:

(Julie Rieutort Cake, Florida)

See the banana? This reminds me of the sculptural wall art that was all the rage in the 80s, in the best possible way.

Sometimes it is all about the flower:

(Nightingale Cakes, UK)

WOW.

But don't miss the subtle patterns in the black and gold!

This incredible bonsai could be a sculpture in a museum:

Breath-taking.

And finally, my favorite color combo strikes again:

::swoon::

Orange poppies, blue skies, and stunning gold fretwork. I think if Optimism were a cake, it would look a lot like this. I know I feel more cheerful looking at it.

I hope these cakes made you feel a little more cheerful, too. May you have all blue skies ahead, and may your week be extra Sweet.
