Sunday Sweets Goes To A New Dimension!

One of my favorite things about cake art is how it can bridge the gap between 2D and 3D. I absolutely love it when bakers fool me, like this:

[By Moli Cakes in Slovakia]

Check it out: the rose stem is only painted on the bottom, but transitions to a real one on top! In fact, all the flowers here are 3D.

I can't get enough of this technique; adding in little sculpted touches like that gives a traditional cake so much more dimension! Look how this dress flows down the tiers, and how the bouquet stands out:

[By Good Gosh Ganache in Texas]

Or how about this steamy stunner:

[By Cakes By Julie]

I could swear that smoke is moving! And the flattened perspective on the train? AMAZEBALLS.

Even a thickened "paint" look can trick the eye:

[By Claudia Prati in Italy]

Makes you want to reach out and touch it, right? Right before shoving your whole face in? :D

Here's a clever use of sugar cookies:

[By Hunny Danny Cake in Moscow]

I love cookie decorations like this! It's almost like a layered paper cutting, or an edible scrapbook page.

Another example:

[By Love Cookies & Art by Andrea Costoya in Brazil]

Check out that sword balancing on the edge. So good.

A big bunch of bubblegum balloons:

And check out how the sculpted pumpkins on this middle tier add to the illusion, so you just want to fall into that big blue sky:

[By Viva La Buttercream in California]

Let's also stop to appreciate the fact that that is ALL BUTTERCREAM, gang. Whaaaaaat.

This beauty almost broke my brain:

[By Elena Gnut Cake in Russia]

How clever is that painting, so you feel like you're looking IN to the cake? And that sculpted finial is the perfect cherry on top.

And finally, for the best day ever, check out this sweet Rapunzel:

[By My Cake - Natalia Casaballe in Argentina]

That braid is the stuff that cakey dreams are made of!

Hope you guys enjoyed! Happy Sunday!

P.S. Here's something else that bridges the gap from 2D to 3D: pop-up flowers!

Fresh Cut Paper Pop-Up Bouquet

You mail these flat like a greeting card, then they pop up into the prettiest bouquet! I've sent a couple of these to both my parents and grandmother now. Fresh Cut has several different colors and flower arrangements to choose from, including a pop-up sunflower wreath that's perfect for Thanksgiving. Plus I send mine straight from Amazon, so with Prime it's free shipping!

6 Cakes That Fail Hilariously At Looking Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like, Vol 101

Let's hope these bakers are never on your Pictionary team.

A Barbie Princess Tiara:

All I see is a giant cat's paw. Does Barbie have a cat? Is this somehow related? Am I over-thinking this? Where are you all going?

A Bucket of Popcorn:

The "Movie Night" really sells it.

A Wine Glass:

If only we could all age like wine older, am I right?

A Mustache:

Looks like "Dad" has a hairy situation on his hands.

Kinda love the belligerent octopus cupcakes, though. They're all, "Put 'em up, put 'em uuup!"

A Fighter Jet:

I swear I'm not making this up.

And finally, a pair of lips:

NOT THOSE LIPS YOU SICKO.

Yeesh. You show a person a penis cake or fifty, and suddenly their mind is, like, ALWAYS in the gutter.

Thanks to Sharon E., Jessica R., Tiffany H., Jenna P., Wendi L., & Michelle R. for sealing this post with a miss.

P.S. While we're flirting with disaster we may as well talk about bewbs, right? So here's a shout-out to my favorite wire-free bra, which is on mega sale this week, so I just bought four more:

Warner's Easy Does It Seamless Wireless Bra

I love the under-arm smoothing panel - no dig or pinch! - and like most Warners, these are incredibly comfortable. I watch the listing and usually buy any color that goes under $20, and as of this writing "Rosewater" is only $12.60(!!) in most sizes, so definitely click over and check your size. (I'm a 34DDD and wear a Large, if that helps.)

Oh, and be sure to check the image gallery for a better idea of how they look on larger tracts of land.
