What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Wreckage Of Unusual Size

In honor of the 24th anniversary of one of the greatest movies of all time, I'd like to tell you a story.

It's a story of the man in black:

Who may or may not look like the Noid from those old Domino's commercials.

And also a beautiful princess:

It's a tale of fencing and fighting,

of torture and despair,

"I've just sucked one year of your life away.
Now I need a glass of milk."

...of chases, escapes, and, of course, twoo wuv.

Also known as "Twoo huv"

There's also a subplot of a son avenging his father's murder.

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to... What's this? A cake?"

"Oooh, are those cherries?
I mean, uh...
Prepare to die.
And also pass me that fork over there."

Together, our heroes will defeat an evil prince, a wily Sicilian, a six-fingered man...

and, of course, Rodents Of Unusual Size.

"Hi."

"Btw, you may want to watch out for those popping noises. Trust me."

Bye bye, Jennifer B., Emily M., Jefferey W., Colin & Jen, Jan Y., Jennifer W., Nicole V., Rysha M., & Melanie H.! Have fun storming the castle!

Oh, and before I go: Anybody want a peanut?

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch as I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch! "Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger ...

Oh how I love this post! I loved the Princess Bride and still do. Now I want to go grab it on Blu-Ray. Hopefully they have it out.. as for that CCC my hubby says it looks like it got run over by a steam roller. Can't say as that's wrong lol it really does look smashed.

With that pink nose, splayed feet and giant teeth, that unusual rodent might actually be a MOLE. (speaking of 6-fingered critters.) I find that more disturbing than ordering and eating a ROUS cake.

If you haven't already, find a copy of the 20th anniversary disk and take a close look at the cover. It's an AMBIGRAM!! Inconceivable!

Jen and John - YOU HAVE TO ADD THIS TO THE SIDEBAR MENUS!!! I easy access FOREVER!!!!!!

What a delicious post and comment thread! Great laugh tonight since I've been mostly dead all day!

Unless I am wrong (and I am never wrong) it's nice to know others are as nuts about this movie as we are!

Cheers to a great blog, a great movie (I've just sucked 24 years of your life away) and great fans!

So. Awesome.
And that ROUS - what the hell???
I have an overwhelming desire to watch this movie today. I think I might just introduce my 5 year old to it. He'll LOVE it!

Oh.My.Word. Here I am, innocently catching a glimpse of my favorite blog before trudging off to work(in a bakery, ironically enough) and what do I get? A horrific homage to my favorite(non-animated) movie EVER! Jen, you make my heart happy!!

"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, he most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land war in Asia' - but only slightly less well-known is this: 'Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line!' Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... Is that an ROUS cake?" **falls over dead**

This is the most beautiful tribute post I have ever read *wipe away tears*. I just love it so much. Brilliant!

Hahaha. I have been wanting to rewatch this movie for a while. Now I really need to find a copy of it. (I'm studying abroad and did not bring many movies). Time to request a care package from the parents. Thanks for the inspiration!

How marvelous!!!!!!

Best movie and best tribute EVER.

Really now, I mean it.

Excellent!! We have watched TPB many times, and even though my partner and I are not legally married it's almost worth doing just to include the marriage quotes. And I know I've done a good job raising my daughters when they can quote as many lines as I can.

Thank you. Thank you. Best movie for sure.
Never thought it was possible to summarize it with cake wreck.
"Inconceivable!"
Yet you did it. "I wasn't nervous. Maybe I was a little bit 'concerned' but that's not the same thing."

Did you see Entertainment Weekly's reunion of the cast? Great photo shoot!

The multiple fingers might not've been a mistake... maybe it was for my son who was born w/ polydactyl (twelve fingers and twelve toes). It affects as many as 1 in 200 people in the U.S. and 1 in 4 Amish.

Okay, so weird. I've been having an out of the blue hankering to watch this movie for the past few days - my Princess Bride ESP must have been activated. Love it!

Additional note on #8a/b: If it weren't for the feet (hands?), I could say this is a buffalo head. I wonder what made me think of that -- must be some funny videos I've seen recently that feature a world-class earworm that makes "It's a Small World" seem utterly forgettable by comparison. But I digress...

The full title of the movie to which I alluded in an earlier post is: 'Nightmare on Sesame Street: Kermit Finally Snaps'.

Fezzik: You never said anything about wrecking a cake.
Vizzini: I've hired you to help me start a war. It's an prestigious line of work, with a long and glorious tradition.
Fezzik: I just don't think it's right, wrecking an innocent cake.
Vizzini: Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic land mass.
Inigo Montoya: I agree with Fezzik.
Vizzini: Oh, the sot has spoken. What happens to the cake is not truly your concern. I will wreck it. And remember this, never forget this: when I found you, you were so slobbering drunk, you couldn't buy Brandy!
[turning to Fezzik]
Vizzini: And YOU: friendless, brainless, helpless, hopeless! Do you want me to send you back to where you were? The Collections part of the layaway department?

Craig, I had no idea what you were talking about so I Googled "man riding buffalo." I spent the next several minutes giggling uncontrollably. So thanks, I guess--let's see how thankful I feel after a day of singing "A guy on a buffalo" to myself.

Wait a minute...Is this a kissing book?

Can I tell you how much I love The Princess Bride? I remember going to see it with my mom and sisters at the $1 movie (there were four of us. $1 movies don't check diaper bags for snacks)...

I am so going to watch this tonight....

My 6th grade English teacher wrote her Ls kind of like hs. One time, she wrote something about a paper we were going to get called "reading log" on the board, and several of my classmates were asking, "Reading hog? What's a reading hog?"
