Sunday Sweets For Puzzle Lovers

I used to be embarrassed by how much I like jigsaw puzzles, but now I just brew a pot of tea, throw an afghan over my lap for the cats, and embrace it. (Yep, nights are PRET-TY wild here at the Yates household.)

And since today is National Puzzle Day, we'll need some cakes to go with this tea, right?

I've never solved one of these - but to be fair, I give up after 90 seconds.

(I don't have a cake version of it, but I'm currently obsessed with a puzzle globe that requires you to lead a tiny metal ball through 100 different steps. I've solved each of the three sections separately, but so far not all 100 in a row. SOMEDAY.)

Crossword puzzles! Specifically Cryptic Crosswords for me, where the clues are mini word puzzles themselves. They're either extremely frustrating or great fun, depending on how often you get them right. (I have to cheat a lot, but I love them.)

I have both of these Alice designs, and have put each together multiple times. My favorite thing is their packaging, though: they come in sturdy book boxes with the titles and art on the spines, which look stunning on my bookshelf. I wish all my puzzles were packed like this!

Admit it, minions: every time I show you a falling-over, heinously bad wedding wreck, you judge the couple a little. You think they didn't pay enough. You think they tried to get the moon for a plumber's crack budget. I get it.

But what if I told you this is the venue for today's wreck:

Pretty, right? And probably worth a pretty penny?

Note how this looks nothing like Uncle Earl's backyard, or the back room of a dilapidated lodge.
This, my friends, is what we southerners call a classy joint.

And this is the wedding cake they served in that classy joint:

Take a minute. Soak it in.

Join me in trying to decipher the faded poo swirly things on the bottom edge, or that spiky bowl thing on top.

And regarding the pretty silver stand it's on: that's not so much lipstick on a pig as it is glass slippers on a Horta. Which is frickin' hilarious if you're an old school Star Trek fan. (The rest of you, just imagine your pile of dirty laundry... made out of pizza.)
