Sweet Dreams

As someone who's battled insomnia for most of my adult life, I know just how valuable a soothing bedtime story can be. So, my fellow sleepless-in-wherevers, this one's for you.

[hem ahem hem]

*whispering*

Once upon a time...

there was a baby who was very sleepy.

The baby's undead friends, however, kept asking:

Yes, throughout the long nights, the baby's best buds howled and screamed and demanded that he stay awake, and play!

One day the baby thought, Maybe if I disguise myself as a ladybug and hide in the forest, my friends won't be able to find me to ask me to play!

And so, chopping off his own arms and legs, he did.

But, alas! His buggy disguise soon attracted a sticky swarm of monster ladybugs.

They crawled in his hair and tickled his ears and the baby forgot about sleep for another night.

Maybe, the baby thought next, if I cover myself with a big blanket, I won't hear my friends calling me!

And so, plugging his little ears, he did.

But, alas! His friend Mr. Bubbles had a very loud and squeaky nose:

Plus, Mr. Bubbles' chainsaws were terribly noisy.

I know! The baby thought at last. I'll hide in this cake! Then I can nap as long as I want.

And so, burrowing into the soft spongy layers, he did.

But, alas! The cake was Mr. Monkey's birthday cake.

P.S. Speaking of a good night's sleep, check THESE babies out:

Bluetooth Sleep Headphones

I listen to boring audio books on these every night to keep my brain from spinning out of control, which works wonders for my insomnia. These things have been a life saver: comfy enough for side sleeping, not too loud like some of my old speakers, they double as an eye mask, AND they're on sale this week for $16 Prime!

Sunday Sweets Goes Art Deco... Again!

From Flapper dresses to Big Band jazz to Art Deco architecture, nothing says "style" quite like the Roaring Twenties.

Look at that gilded perfection! LOOK AT IT.

And check out this sweet flapper girl!

Love that feathered headband topper.

This one reminds me of delicate chandelier earrings:

Here's a mod silhouette style:

I actually have a hat like that, and could never quite pull it off. Maybe if I paired it with long pearls...

You know those fancy Deco dinner clubs in the movies, the kind with full jazz bands and dance floors? That's what I see here:

You can almost hear the brass section announcing dessert. :)

Another gilded beauty:

And a simple, clean style with some stunning Art Deco imagery:

I'm already swooning over the art, but those 3D rolled flowers in her skirt? GENIUS.

Another clever mix of 2D and 3D on this handpainted flapper girl:

Check out the fringe on her dress! And the hand piped pearls!

Some incredible techniques in this next one:

From the delicate petals at the base, to the baffling hexagonal pink ombre (how DID they do that??) to those swags of lace near the top, this cake is a true showcase of Things Jen Could Never Do.

Here's a more modern, subtle homage to the flapper dress... with FEATHERS.

(By Zoe Clark Cakes)

Oooooh. Aaaaaah.
I want to pet it.

And finally, a Great Gatsby inspired beauty with too many fab details to mention:

That creamy palette is just lovely, and I'm digging the bunches of pearls. So Sweet!

Happy Sunday, everyone!
