What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

We Are SO Gonna Get In Trouble For This One...

You know when your waiter at a restaurant tells you that you look like somebody really famous, and you're always secretly terrified they're going to say it's Gary Busey or a "heftier" version of Macauley Culkin?

Or is that just me?

Well, we got this awesome Batman cake in a while ago, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out who it reminded me of. Here, see if it rings any bells for you...

Let's see, strong chin, luscious full lips, surgically enhanced cheek bones...Who could it be?

Oh, wait, now I remember.

This lady:

Remember to use your inside voices when you screech in terror, mmkay, class? Inside voices. That's better. Now. See the resemblance? No?

[clickety-click, mouse, mouse, click] (that's the sound of mad-Photoshop-skills at work)

Ok, how 'bout now?

See? Just like the cake.
Only, you know, with a side of eye-clawing terror.

Enjoy it while you can, Cewest; I figure we have approximately 4 minutes before someone tries to sue us.

Related Wreckage: Rooby Dooby DOOO!

Note: The woman pictured is the infamous "Cat Woman." She has had extensive plastic surgery, and enjoys being seen and photographed in public like any other celebrity. Since she chooses to look this way, we thought including her photo would be more appropriate than, say, Jay Leno's. Since some of you have still found this offensive, however, rest assured that we've nixed all the jokes about Owen Wilson's nose in future posts.

Yep! That is exactly who I thought of before scrolling down.

Is anybody else as concerned as I am about the green/yellow/disgusting goo oozing from around batman's head??? It makes me feel like I should call a doctor...or poison control.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCourtney C.

I love your blog!! Always makes me laugh...and want to eat cake.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDanica

I just about shrieked out loud when I saw that!

It might be an idea to warn us of such horrors BEFORE we see the cake - I mean, we're used to seeing funny and funny grotesque, but when you leave out the funny and just go for grotesque, I need more warning! lol... wow... I just can't get that one out of my mind!

That's halarious! Who is that? Is that a real (unphotoshopped) picture?

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

That is traumatic!

I wouldn't worry too much about lawsuits or hurting crazy-lady's feelings. She has made herself a VERY public figure by choice. It's not like you hunted down some private woman and chose to publicize her.

The batman cake was horrifying in and of itself. The one-two punch with cat lady? Yikes!!

Don't worry, John, I'm sure your lawyer will be able to win your case based on fair use as satire.

And I agree with you. If she did that intentionally, and put herself out there, then she should be prepared for the fact that not everyone will think she looks good that way.

Now I'm going to look for my brain floss...

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCarin Huber

I'm surprised no one else has said it (sorry if someone did and I missed it in my skim through the comments), but I think the big lips make it a pretty fair Val Kilmer-as-Batman.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

Best laugh I've had all day, the resemblance is uncanny!!!

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaz

If there was ever a fantastic reason to stay away from plastic surgery, this woman has got to be it. I think plastic surgery should only be used for reconstruction after trauma, etc., not for vanity alone. That said, the batman cake just looks like a fat face, or perhaps just one with edema.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJanella

I thought maybe Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdenestria

Funny, I thought of that lady as soon as I saw Batman, before I even scrolled down to see her. So you're right :P

Although seeing her with the mask on makes me think more of the phantom of the opera, lol

Holy Cat woman on botox Batman...

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHyena Overlord

Jeepers Creepers, Batman!

And, sorry, can't control my defensive stance:

Anonomous coward at 11:08 - really! If you have a serious complaint that you want to have any credibility, you have to post your name.
Just like any letter with feedback, if you do not identify yourself, your opinion does not count. Its like signing a petition without putting you name on it. .!.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I was actually thinking Sinbad more than Wildenstein, but...yeah, you got it. Holy Botox, Batman...what the hell HAPPENED to you??

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbarfingmonkeys

horrifying any way you slice it.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKar

What a fascinating comment. We have, in fact, taken down a total of six posts so far that we didn't think were worth the controversy. Some upset the readers, others upset the bakers who made the cakes but we always did it because we truly care what the readers think. It may sound wimpy, but our goal is to make people laugh and when this site stops doing that because of our own stubborn desire to say what we want, it's time to close our proverbial doors permanently.

On a side note, I am a firm believer in free speech. I do, however, wish that folks would use more common sense before opening their mouths. I think it would make the world a much kinder place.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjohn (the hubby of Jen)

I'm just wondering why the heck Batman has a girly little frill all around his face.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWolvie Girl

I'm getting hives just from the thought of all that black food dye.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJustALittleBit_Me

That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. "...a side of eye-clawing terror"? Hilarious!!!

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNMD

I love your blog! This woman knows she looks odd, and pretty happy with it. So, your hilarity on the subject of her face was well played. You are always good for a laugh! Love it! I decorate cakes, and hope I NEVER see one of mine on here! :)

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShake-N-Bake

i think it looks more like paul stanley from kiss. but that is just me.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertangeria

Wow. I guess I'm totally alone on this one. The only person I could think of is Fat Albert, and he's not even a real person. I guess I need to watch tv more often.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChaos

Oh...Wow...How scary...

I had never heard of this person before but Googled the name provided by another poster. Aaarrrrrgghhhh! When good money goes bad!

I turned the big 5-Oh this year and thought I wanted just a wee bit done to make me look a little more fresh. Now I am loving every wrinkle, (earned from kids) every discoloration, (fun in the sun) and will love my natural, un-scalpled body 'till I die.

Thank you Cakewrecks!

WV: horie - Jocelyn has paid way too much money for that horieble face!

I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

John (hubby of Jen) might add, "if you sign your comment."

"Before you speak, ask yourself, is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence?"
-nineteenth-century guru Sai Baba

Cake Wrecks is as kind as one can be about the messes that turn up, necessary for my sanity, unabashedly true, and it is a definite improvement on the silence. Just sayin'.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterfrigglesnitz

I actually think the Batman face looks a lot like Bill Clinton. Anyone agree? (More importantly, are any of you a Secret Service agent?)

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDavid M.

I was wondering guys, are we ever going to see any Wolverine cakes? We've had Batman, Spiderman and Superman, but no Wolvie? C'mon, a heck of a lot of us would LOVE to see Hugh Jackman on a cake!

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWolvie Girl

Am I the only one who sees phantom of the opera on the photoshopped version?

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRosalie

See the first think I thought of when I saw the cake was "Fernando Botero does Batman"

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

HaHaHa! My 5 year old got scared!!!

WV-choppe: what that surgeon did to her face!

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTina

Wow. A new low. Bullying on cakewrecks. My opinion of this blog has really gone downhill. I guess fame turns some people into real hacks.

UNFAIR! You should have warned me about that second picture! I see nightmares in the very near future...

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Hopefully she spent enough on plastic surgery that she doesn't have enough for the lawyers retainer.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjoey72

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is at all funny. I usually enjoy your blog, but I think this is downright mean. You should retract this post and issue an apology.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

"Bullying"? "Hacks"?? The post I've quoted above is satire, right? The woman in question is not some person in the private sector whose picture was snapped as she exited her local Walgreen's. Nor was she the victim of a horrific, disfiguring accident. Nor was she tragically born looking this way. She is someone who has had repeated and purposeful surgeries with the objective of looking exactly as she does. Momreover, she has repeatedly and purposefully put her image "out there" for the proverbial fun and profit.

As was previously mentioned, she likes the way she looks, and scoffs at those who don't agree with her assessment ... though she has turned herself into the embodiment of a living, breathing Picasso painting, distorted features and all. (I wouldn't be surprised to find out that she has three breasts and plays a mandolin.)

I find the name vituperative name calling directed at John and Jen, and the questioning of their ethics and motivations, MUCH more offensive than anything that either of them has *ever* posted. And, at least they post using their actual identities; they don't try to level nasty-isms under the guise of a lame, anonymous screen nick.

Jen, John ... please don't change a thing; don't begin to question whether or not each and every post will pass muster with every member of your reading audience, particularly those who are apparently members of the blog police. Your own moral compasses seem to be doing a great job guiding the sensibility of this blog. Those who find it offensive ... well they can request a refund of all of the money they paid in exchange for the access to your work. You know, the blog you write virtually DAILY for FREE?????????

Love the blog. Love your irreverent 'tude. Listen to your own hearts, and rock on, you two!

Best post. ever.

Brain Bleach NOW! STAT!

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShellie

Grow up people. Right from the start this blog has been about what Jen & John find amusing. If it doesn't tickle your fancy then the next post might.

I have seen posts taken down when people have seen their cakes on here when they have not sent in the photos themselves.

The lady in the photo they have used is a public figure, and her photo is always number 1 in "Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong" in media articles.

John has not done anything wrong in this post.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChimaera

Well, I thought your post was funny and kind of horrifying, but what I find the MOST horrifying is the batman cake. It does indeed look like the old boy is suffering from edema, and um, from the nose down, like he is growing an extra pair under the private parts of a lady.

I just could not get around the genital-esque nature of the cake. Lily

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

OH! I wanted to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you've gone back to the blue background and original font style and size!!! YAAAAAAAY!!! So much easier on the eyes! :-D

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I thought it was Porky Pig... see for yourself:

Hey John, I like the blue background but you need to get the "Post a Comment" button back to the bottom of the comments.

September 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCaren

I was originally thinking Peter Griffin. But that works even better! XD
