What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

What's This?

Earlier today John had the song "What's This?" from Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in his head.

After looking at these Wrecks, now *I* do.

What's this? What's this?
There's color everywhere

What's this?
There's white things in the air

What's this?

It's orange and so hairy - what's the deal with those two berries? I don't care!
What's this?

[bumpahbumpahbumpabumpabumpabBUM]

What's this? What's this?
I can't believe my eyes,

What's this?
A donkey tank surprise?

What's this? A swirly mass so curly, could the purple be too girly? Should this song be ending early? No we're going 'til we hurl-y!!

What's this?

Could it be, oh could it be? Did I get my wish?

Here's something that makes sense: a meteorite bird fiiiish!

What's this?

[dumpadumpadumpadumpbaBUM]

[wheeyouwheeyouwheeyouwhee...]

What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong!

What's this? That blue thing's really long.

What's this?

It's positively crappy, and yet I feel so happy, have I possibly gone sappy? I think I need a nappy 'cuz this song is kind of rappy so I guess I'll get a frappey and go shopping at the Gappy...

WHAT.

IS.

THIS?!?

S.K., Patrick T., Chris E., Reagan B., Rebekah W., Austin L., Alex S., Kaylyn M., & Mikaela, your guess is as good as mine.

Oh, and for your continued "enjoyment" I have a special treat today: while we were writing this post, John & #1 (aka "the other Jen") kept singing it to get the cadence right. This...got really entertaining.

So, I decided to tape them.

There were a few interruptions, but overall I think you'll find their rendition...um...well...just don't have the volume up too loud, k?

"Enjoy!"

(If you're wondering what my contribution is here, I'm the one doing the scrolling. And giggling.)

Update from john: Please note that no animals were harmed during the making of this video. :)

The video! It's...it's....fantastic! I...can't....stop....laughing!!

More cake wreck video's please!!

Classic. I vote more videos. #1 really does have a pretty voice, and John's is pretty too, but in a macho manly sort of way.

This was hilarious. Co-workers think I'm crazy for cracking up so early in the morning.

i thuroughly enjoyed the musical narration of the post! i would love to see it more often!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterkmawesome

Starting off with Wicked then into Nightmare Before Christmas. XD

XD Now I'm gonna have What's This stuck in my head. >.<

The first "wreck" is Unicorn Poop from the game Deathspank. See the picture below or google Deathspank unicorn poop. Turns out the first one is not a cake wreck but a piece of art (or poop) depending on what you think of it.

Maybe as a gift to your fans, can you guys do a "Sing-along-blog" like Dr. Horrible?

How 'bout a Cake Wrecks Christmas special where you sing about yule logs & Turdaphants.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBaby

Thanks for the video! You two are pretty darn good at singin'!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

I think the last one is supposed to be a cornucopia on a gingerbread man, but it looks like gingerbread roadkill, tire tread and everything.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterksaldria

In your video, why is she laughing that the dog died?

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

First picture looks like a unicorn pooed on the cake

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That was great, even before I heard the recording! Not that there was anything wrong with the recording...I just didn't need it because I could already hear the song in my head! But it was great!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

#8 is a fire hydrant, but the picture is taken horizontally instead of vertically. The blue stuff is supposed to be water, I'm guessing. Although it's trickling out, I wouldn't want to be on fire near that hydrant! I'll be watching the video at home so I don't burst out in laughter at work. I can't wait!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

The video was amazing. It made an already incredible post that much better. I laughed so hard!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSurfie

That was sort of a strange reaction to someone's dog dying... I guess nobody liked the dog then?

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterbeloved30

You definitely need more musical posts! Cell phone interruptions and all.

Also, i think I'm partial to the meteorite bird fish.

My 6 year old says the rocket looking thing with the long blue thing is a rocket being carried by a blue ant. (She also says that we should make a video with her singing about crazy cakes, but she doesn't want anyone to call her while she's singing).

My 2 year old was uninterested though. He just kept pointing at the carrot jockeys and saying "poor babies! babies sad!" Apparently his analysis is that the carrot jockeys are sad because they wanted to ride on boats but had to ride carrots instead. LOL

I actually liked the orange "hairy" cake. It didn't look like a wreck to me. Of course, I've no idea what it's supposed to represent, but it looks good :)

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBluefairy

Loved the singing... and the phone call interrupting the singing... Heeeee-larious!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlisha

I laughed harder at the ending of the first phone call.

"Her dog just died." OtherJen
"Oh." John

And they go back to singing. What!?

Gods I am morbid, or apathetic or something.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBeautifamous

by far my favorite post ever! (to go with one of my favorite movies ever) The video was excellent! lol

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKellie Jensen

Holy crap that was funny you guys! XD

Number Five is a close up of James "Sully" Sullivan of Monsters, Inc.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterimjeffp

It's from the infamous internet kitten that poops rainbows.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Hahaha, great post

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterGinny

The first one is unicorn poo from the game DeathSpank! its hilarious. -Rebecca

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

OK, the post was hilarious, but the video was...well, the icing on the cake. LOL #1 has a nice tone to her voice, and John is pretty good, too. I laughed at the phone call coming in the middle of the song, and #1's comment, "Well, we're doing a thing, but it's dumb." Then the incredulous exclamations, followed by, "Her dog died." And then it was business as usual, which made me laugh the hardest. Can I get that song on my iPod?

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMelinda

I'm definitely not the first person to mention this, but BRAVO! to John singing Popular. That just made my day almost as much as the rest of the video. Also, "her dog died" *singing commences. Soooo terrible...terribly funny! And finally Jen's "can we wrap this up guys?" *phone rings* "Hello?"

bahahahha why would anyone create something so horrific for their customers!!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterli'lErin

Wow! You guys have a great singing voice. That was pretty amazing. I'm really surprise. You guys can write and sing. Thought about writing a musical about cake wrecks? Keep up the good work. I look forward to your posts everyday.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJasmin

OMG that was the best post ever, I loved the singing (and the interruptions)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

i may have pee'd my pants a little....

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEmily D.

And you're really saying you didn't script those interruptions? Your comic timing borders on the miraculous.

Also, I'll bet #1 could sing really well if she wanted, and John doesn't embarrass himself either.

Also, I think I just died laughing.

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMel V.

The cake in the last photo looks like it has dog turds on it

August 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

We laughed until we cried!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKristi

BWHAHHAHAHAhahhahahhHAHAHHAHAHA!
Were the phone interruptions planned? Because that was just too perfect. XD

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEliza

I agree, Nightmare Before Christmas + Cake Wrecks is truly the best. You are all amazing and brilliant and hysterical and a bit disturbing, and simply genius!

Video is a wonderful idea and I hope you will find excuses to include it in future posts.

(PS David Attenburough? not Patrick Stewart? OK I am a sad loser)

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRbeforeE

Can I invoice you for those?

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

i would have number five! totally!
*tilts head*
well then again maybe if that purple spot made sense
*squints*
and if i didn't look so much like the blue guy on monsters inc. , maybe if the icing was smooth and oh if it was....

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterbean

Hilarious!!!!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Hahahahaha! The video was great! How many rehearsals did it take before you got it down? Would have loved to hear those, too . . . and maybe a blooper reel!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That was frickin hilarious! You guys are a riot!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

WAS JOHN SINGING POPULAR?? XDDD AWESOME

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterIca :P

Ok that was Hilarious! you guys are awesome!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAudra,Tony,and Erinn

Popular... I want to be POP-U-LAR! XD

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

i normally just look and don't comment, but i was smiling so much when i read the captions beneath the pictures because in my head it was to the song.

thanks for the laughs!!!

August 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Amazing lyrics!

Either "the dog died" is a common sarcastic interjection in the Jen & John household, or that's a group with superb comedic coordination. There was barely time to draw breath between that bizarrely incongruous summary of the telephone call and the next verse.

Can't you PLEASE tell us what really happened?
