What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Dora Dilemma

"Hi, I'd like to order this Dora cake, please."

"No problem!"

[a few minutes later]

"Here you go: one Dora cake!"

"Um, that's not really the same... and where are the toys?"

"What toys?"

"The toys that come with the Dora cake!"

"Oh, THOSE toys. Haha! I thought you were making a pun. I don't have those toys."

"Well, which toys do you have?"

"Er...Let's see...I have the ones for this cake:"

"Ok, that's fine. Just make me one of those, then."

"Okey dokey!"

"Here you go! As you can see, I included the toys!"

"But, that looks nothing like the picture! Look, I don't mean to complain, but all these delays are really putting me behind schedule, and the party is in an hour, and I have so much to do, and I just can't seem to get ahead!" [sob]

"Say no more, my good man! I will take care of everything.

"Here we go! See? I told you I'd take care of it!"

"Why? What's in the box?"

[sniffle] "Fine. I'll take it."

Thanks to Vickie F., Ashley H., & Bryon B. for helping us finally get a head.

By "what's iiiinnnn the boooox?" I heard a reference to UHF! You know, this scene:

WHEEL OF FISH! "Ooooooh, red snapper! Very tasty!"

Either way, a Dora head is much creepier.....

Bwahaha. I'd totally take the head-in-a-box-cake. It's hilarious.

@ mouse - ahahahahahahahaha! Your comment made me laugh so hard I frightened by poor dogs!

Is the baby stuffed inside?

The first wreck looks like the "safety first" version... because in the original Dora looks like she's headed for a head-on with that other car.

In which episode did Dora fight a giant yellow Land Squid?

I bet Hannibel Lector would like that last cake with a nice bottle of Chianti.

Dora's head - either the movie "Seven" or a remake of "The Godfather" but for children.

The first cake: there IS a flat sheet cake version of that Dora/Diego kit (Safari Party :))... And minus the kit, the design looks pretty much just like that. Not sayin' the customer *didn't* get something decorated wrong, but at least it was close! And where I work, we charge less for the flat versions of those signature cakes, so hopefully they didn't have to pay for the stacked version. ...and got a kit on the side..? :D

I ordered an Elmo cake for my son's birthday tomorrow that has a design similar to the first Dora cake. Now I'm all paranoid I'll be sending its picture to Cake Wrecks.

Why do people do this? 0_o

Lol oh my..if anyone served a Dora head I would imagine the poor kid would have nightmares. Unless they like cakes like that. I know I would scream if I opened the box to find a head in it then wonder if I somehow got a cake meant for the Godfather lol.

As a parent who has been - I mean "appreciated" - endless hours of Dora the Explorer, I think Dora's head in a box strangely satisfying. It is almost as good as "Maraka and gloves," Saturday Night Live parody made a few years ago, what makes me laugh so hard I cried.

Yes, agree. First thought of Dora head was the movie Se7en. Great, there goes tonight's sweet dreams.

I agree with Anith. I don't mind if there's some cultural reference I don't get - I just read the comments and immediately have any questions answered! The posts with cultural references always seem to be more fun, even if I don't personally understand them.

My sister ordered a Dora cake for my niece this past weekend. And it actually looked really good, very similar to the third cake, same toys, etc. What's up with the swirly piles o' green goop? We had a few people comment on how they looked like guacamole poop.

Herod's daughter would dance for the last cake.

I thought of se7en as well when I saw that creepy head in the box. I needed no reference to take me to that creepy place, and why would you want to give a child a cake that reminded anyone of that scene? ugh.

lol when my 4yo saw the picture of dora's head he said ...."They sliced her head off like a savage beast!" LOL

I love that last cake. For my next birthday I want a cake like that one, only it's Justin Bieber's head in a box instead of Dora's."Who wants some cake?"

P.S.- I DON'T like Justin Bieber AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the Se7en reference. That movie turned me off Brad Pitt forever - I just could not watch him act seriously after that. My daughter and her friends are 13 and have gone through a recent horror movie phase. They watched Se7en last week despite my warnings about the acting. Needless to say, I have been treated to a week's worth of, "What's in the box? Tell me what's in the booooooox!"

OK, so I'm a tad behind in my CW's. Just started a new job and haven't had much "me" time online. But as much as I've been enjoying catching up on these delights, I *had* to comment here. My 3 year old saw the Dora head and said "Mommy, that looks like Dora... Sort of... But like, there's something wrong with her. What's wrong with her?" Oh, dear... Where to begin! :-D

Cake #1: Oh look! Dora and Diego are riding in opposite directions on a one-way street! How cute!
Cake #2: The aftermath of Cake #2
Cake #3: Diego: Nothing can ruin this random circle of fun!
Cake #5: Don't ask. Just... don't...

Am I the only one who saw the first cake and was immediately concerned about what appeared to be a collision in the making? Dora and Diego need to brush up on their driving skills.

Who sees an impending car crash in that first one?
