What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

1) Spider Toad... Spider Toad... (blinkblink)... Nah.

2) Cujo-Doo!

3) I like Fezzes. Fezzes are cool. Now all he needs is a bowtie.

Now I know why the bakery I work at does edible images.

Cake #1: The view the corporate office on the 15th floor got the day spidey missed his eye dr's appointment (man that depth perception is a tricky thing!)
Cake #2: Poor Scooby just realized that he's about to get his temprature taken...
Cake #3: My that is quite an interesting version of the female reproductive system...those are some healthy looking ovaries, eh? D:

On that Spidey cake: Has anyone else noticed that the portion in white just below the spider logo was supposed to be a *gap* between his chest and his right leg (look at the actual picture - you'll see what I mean)? In that case, that segment should not even be cake - or should have been coloured red, like the rest of the cake's background. Not that it would have helped - ick.

What's sad is the amount of time the wreckerator of Optimus Prime spent with that star tip. It wasn't just spread around a little colored buttercream; no, there was some serious effort and hand cramps that went into that disaster!

Conversation with my 7 yr old son just now....
Son: (looking at the picture of Optimus Prime) Hey look it's Optimus! (looking at the cake) What's that supposed to be?
Me: Umm.. Optimus Prime.
Son: HOW is that Optimus Prime, it doesn't look anything like him!

Optimus Prime looks more like one of the flying blue monkeys from The Wizard of Oz, doesn't he??

Cake #1: After a tragic addiction to donuts Spiderman was no long a capable crime fighter.

Cake #2: Today's episode of Scooby Doo ended finding out that the villain was actually Timon dressed up as Scooby in an effort to steal their scooby snacks.

Cake #3: After have one too many Energon Martinis Optimus woke to find his head inside a Concrete Bollard.

These are by professionals? I could understand someone at home doing that (which is why I know better than to make my own design cakes) but...

My daughter says Scooby looks like a bad dog that went in the trash can. lol

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTami

I love how the "dog" (sock puppet?) on the Scooby cake looks like he's cringing with embarrassment: "OMG! Am I supposed to be Scooby Doo? I am SO sorry for whoever bought this cake!"

Totally agree that the Optimus Prime looks like a Winkie Guard from Wizard of Oz, with a very smug expression ("yes, we're holding Optimus Prime in the Witch's castle, but if you melt her, we'll give him back"). BTW, the original screenplay says their chant is "O-Ee-Yah, Eoh-Ah" (which I'll now have in my head all day)

The last one has to be pregnancy jeans that have the elastic high waist for support.

I can believe these were made by professionals...just not sure what their individual professions might be.

My new favorite phrase is "deflated bouncy castle of despair."

(Thank you, Sharyn!)

haha! scooby doo is looking' good!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterrad hannah

Optimus Prime = "what's new, Pussycat, whoa, oo-ohh, oo-ohh,ohh," Take that literally, and the 12 year old, dirty mind version.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDilEmma

The third one looks a little (very little) like an autobot symbol. Other than that, I got nuthin.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkelticat

I love with that goofy disembodied Scooby Don't head.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlil

Scooby made me snort hot cocoa out of my nose.

How I love this blog. You make me happy every day.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

Could Optimus be upside down? Maybe that'll help a little.......

Nah!! Ain't no helpin' bad! :O

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMe

While I’m grateful this Spidey’s not spurting anything- he has no feet. I also noticed the white patch of icing under the spider on his chest is supposed to be blank space showing between his let, hand and chest. On the second Spidey it goes all the way down to show his leg is not attached. Pleasant dreams, kiddies!!

The second Scooby looks like he belongs on a totem pole.

I can’t even discuss Optimus without swearing.

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

I still say that the Transformers cake looks to be a smurf smushed into a Transformer lol. As for poor bodiless Scooby..why just keep the head? Lol the nightmares will begin.

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

You guys, I've been wondering this for a while and I apologize if this has been brought up a thousand times - I'd love to know how many people are actually kind of ok with receiving these cakes. I come from a small town where this spiderman and scooby doo - though oddly-proportioned and clearly not franchise quality - is probably the best we're going to get. And that's okay!

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

I think the last one is a guy from the Blue Man Band wearing a gray hat.

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMewnonymous

still en route. Next time, will wait
on bone removal.

GrnEyes, your autobot line made me laugh!

I've been reading this site too long. I looked at the Spiderman cake and thought hmm... not bad... :)

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVriesea

In defense of Spidey, I have to say the reference photo isn't great already. I kept getting his blue tights confused with the blue patches on his arms.

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Spidey's feet? What did they do to Spidey's HIPS????

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

ANY "baker" who dared offer ME anything like those version number twos would get me throwing it at them!!!

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDelila Locks

Spiderman looks like he;s in the womb. Fetalman.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLudicrous Mama

Hey, now I know that Jabba the Hut likes to cos play as spidey! The scooby one is killing me! Why are the scooby ones so funny?!?!?

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMickey

How optimus prime would look if grandma knit him into a doily.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGale

The first one instantly reminded me of the sketch style over at HARK! A VAGRANT

May or may not be intentional, but I am still slightly creeped out by it.

January 30, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDacks

I look at Spider-man & all I could think was, "Baby got back!" And some SERIOUS thunder thighs. ;)

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiva Mel

Poor Scooby looks TERRIFIED!
Which, now that I think about it, is actually pretty fitting. He basically ping-pongs between two states: being scared and being stoned.

February 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

I agree with Jo and Lugebooty. My first thought was that optimus prime looked like parrt of a grey sweater and blujeans with a cameltoe. Seems a little.... not kid party-ish?

February 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Yikes! Trying to follow where Spidey's legs start and end! And Scooby? That is Scooby DON'T! Optimus? Not so much.
