What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The first cake is Spidey's half-brother. His mom had a fling with a smurf and....

Dear Scooby Wreckerator:

Get with the program. They are Scooby Snacks, not "Scooby Doo" ones.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTrevor

Scooby's gone rabid on us? And praytell, WTF is that last thing really?????? It ain't Optimus Prime, that's for sure.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNo, no, no!

Step one: Look at first picture
Step two: put down coffee and remove sharp objects from reach
Step three: look at second picture
Step four: *Headdesk*

Spiderman appears to be in the most painful yoga pose ever.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRamey

Poor Spidey! He's lost both of his feet in a tragic fight with Doc Ock, and now has spindly peg legs.

Optimus Prime is looking pretty cheery there, though. :)

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPamtha laugh of the week!!!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNotDeadYet

Wow, these make my clearly non-professional beige Vader cake look pretty good.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCakeyGoodness

Ugh... "Scooby Do" reminds me of that Russian scientist who did experiments involving severed dogs' heads. I really hope that cake wasn't for a kid!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGoggie Girl

That third one looks like a smurf in a fez. "I shall do a dance in my fuzzy boots for you, Smurfette!"

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJanice

Spidey appears to have lost his neck and his head just oozes over his shoulders like Jabba the Hutt!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

I...But...It....That is not Optimus Prime. It can't be. The colors are wrong, the shapes are wrong, it... I wouldn't have the vaguest idea what to make of that cake if not for the Optimus Prime picture you posted with it. If it was specifically requested as an Optimus Prime cake, and the customer got that...

I'm just speechless.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKaraethon

Yes indeedy, Optimus Prime is definitely looking a bit chipper there.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDocbanger

Wow is spider mans face a bit chunky? Best laugh I've had all week

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBlueeagleonthemoon

And these people get PAID for those?? D:

I'm having Pictionary flashbacks. I always "see" the ideal picture in my head and think, "yeah, I can draw a full scale replica of Neuschwanstein Castle in 30 seconds," but I always end up with something that looks like "Deflated Bouncy Castle of Despair" on paper. Knowing this, I DIDN'T go into cake decorating. From now on, BEFORE I order a cake, I'm going to make the baker draw a Pictionary clue. At least then I'll know whether I should expect "Optimus Prime" or "Constipated Smurf in a Fez."

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

I think Scooby looks pretty good for someone who's 307 in dog years.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Mmmmm. This post makes me hungry for some cake with Spider-Toad, Scooby-Ferret, and ... a huge blue beetle wearing an Albanian felt hat?

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGary

@ Janice.....I was thinking a happy cat in a fez. lol

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBrooke

Spiderman Yoga
Scooby snack O.D.-clearly
Autobot? Think not!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGrnEyes6

I wonder how many of the customers think they are getting Punk'd when they go to pick up their cakes......

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiana

The third one looks likes the "Oh Eee Oh" guys in Wizard of Oz.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMimiheart

The Spiderman one almost works...Scooby not so much. But...but...but what have they done to my Optimus Prime?!?! *crying*

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

@Sharyn--"Deflated Bouncy Castle of Despair", you've been looking at MY picture drawing! ROFL

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

Scooby Doo? More Like Scooby Don't.....or Scooby Can't..........

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

Apparently "does whatever a spider can" now includes having a cephalothorax and twice the usual number of knees. Or maybe somebody knocked him down with a broom and smushed him.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNaomi

Okay all I got when I saw the Optimus one was that the hat looked like some Russian siberian type hat. But I love constipated smurf in a fez too. I feel so sorry for these people. Have you all thought of what you would do if you got one of these? I'd refuse to pay and go make my kid a cake.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

Missed Marks are my favorites!!! They're so sad! But also funny! ^_^

I have always believed that the guards at the castle of the Witch sing 'O-re-o', probably because they're marching to the snack room. Product placement is not a modern concept, after all. Back to cakes...

Wreck 1: Initially, I thought the word at the bottom of Spidey's cake was 'Fappy'. Yes, I know 'Cake' is covering the left side of the 'H', but it still skewed the interpretation for me, especially after that other Spidey cake from a few days back.

Wreck 2: Early drafts of 'Scooby Doo' had a chihuahua in the role, but it just didn't work for some reason. Though it could have been an advertiser's dream -- test audiences developed an intense and inexplicable craving for 'Mexican' fast food.

Wreck 3: Somehow, Optimus Prime is a lot less imposing as a hypoxic cat in a knitted cap. We'll just kind of overlook the whole 'upside down' thing. (You can tell by the shadow that the photo is oriented correctly.)

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

It's a little disconcerting to see Scooby growling and Optimus Prime smiling. Maybe Optimus is smiling because he's the one who twisted Smurf-Spidey into a knot? And Scooby was trying to protect SS, but got his head ripped off, instead?

That was a little dark. Sorry. Time to eat some Scooby Snacks....

I came home from kindergarten one day and my mother had baked a cake. I had no idea what was on top of it until she told me she had tried to draw Popeye on it for me.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLiz

Love the Picasso-esque Scooby-Doo!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHarold

That's definitely a Scooby don't.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

What happened to Spiderman's feet! That wreckerator is clearly a sick human being.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDana the Biped

That star-tip Optimus Prime looks real 1970s style...everytime I see someone star-tipping a cake into oblivion I think of a kid's birthday party in a room with shag carpet, dark wood-paneling and paintings of matadors.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanderpanderer

Also, I think the pic of the last cake might be upside down...not that it makes it any better to turn it right side up.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanderpanderer

I made a "Perry the Platypus" face cake for my son's birthday. It was... recognizable. But I wouldn't have charged for it!

Those cakes were a waste of buttercream. Fo' shizzle.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSyl B

For one thing,Optimus Prime seems to be upside down in the cake version. Not that it helps much. But really, conisdering the baker wasn't using a shaped pan (at least not the right one -- it seems to have SOME smape...), s/he adapted the Spidey design rather creatively. It's much closer than most Spiderman cakes we've seen here!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

The Optimus cake makes just -slightly- more sense if the picture is turned upside down (blue on top). Not much, but slightly. It's still an abomination for TF fans everywhere LOL.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmyTD

@trevor. Exactly my first thought. DUH

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Does anyone think the Optimus cake is also upside down? Although the black lining does appear to be a face with a smirky little grin and creepy 3 iris eyeballs, it COULD be the hat is on the wrong end.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAdoAnnie

Last cake: dreidel, dreidel, dreidel we made you out of cake

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterana

Had you just put the Optimus Prime one up there without the other picture I would've had no clue what that was. It looks nothing like Optimus Prime!!!!! At least the other two you can tell what they were trying to be

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSara A.

The Optimus Prime cake is upside down. Unfortunately, it's only slightly less wrong right-side up :-/

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Is Optimus upside down? Not that it matters very much...

And those melting star-tip dots: looks like something that I make with star-tip dots.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLetitia

Is that really frosting under Spiderman, on the cake board??

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSherr C.

More like "Failed it!" Optimus Prime looks like Jeans and a shirt torso-thingy. Hilarious, as usual ;)

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJo

I spit my coffee out when reading the COMMENTS. The cakes were just sad. The comments though, they made my day!

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

That's quite a "cleft" OP has there. Reminds me of blue pants. That are, um, filled out.

January 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLugebooty

Poor Scoob's grimace has me in tears. Best wreck of the week!
