What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

A Stark Difference

Proving once again the pictures in the bakery's order book are always too good to be true:

"Oh, you want your cake to look exactly like this?

"Noooo problem."

Who's the hot mess now?

Thanks to Marianna B., who wants to know where Jarvis is when you need him.

How did I know it would be about Iron Man

You get what you pay for! What do these folks expect from the Stop & Shop/ P & C/ Stop & Pee--or whereEVER this thing was wrecked at?! "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams"...on a pork and beans (mmm!) budget? Also: regarding those heavy-handed, thick and rope-y borders: aren't they mandatory on these things? =^-.~^=

Wow. They couldn't even get the shape right.

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Take a picture of
a square cake in a round pan -
it'll last longer.

Iron Meh

And the customer leaves the bakery reflecting on the immortal words of the Beach Boys...
"Round round get a round
I get a round
Get a round round round I get a round
I get a round
Get a round round round I get a round...."

The Impossible Dream (From The Man of La Muncha)

To dream…the impossible dream…
To get…the cake that I want…
To bear…with unbearable sorrow…
Knowing…however I shant…
To right…this unrightable wrong…
To hope…this is one they can make…
To try…when your heart is too weary…
To reach…the unreachable cake…

Now this is my quest, to follow that cake…
No matter how hopeless, as long as it takes…
To fight for the right, like a kitten with claws…
To be willing to march into Hell for a bakery cause…

And I know if I’ll only stay true, to seek out this cake,
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When at last it they bake…
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, though his heart it did ache,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach…the unreachable cake….

@ Midnight writer- Bravissimo!! Love it!

It's not often that I laugh out loud when I see a cake these days (must be getting jaded), but this one did it.

Love the song, mel! It's perfect.

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMuria

I cannot comprehend the amount of stupid it takes to do that O_o

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

They nailed the colors!

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKathyW

It is so exactly but completely not like the original!!! :D :O Do the people who make these cakes drive cars on public roads and stuff?!

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

(Oh,Tony...I'd hardly know fact, I'd never heard of you before today.)
Hey, how about: "Jeeze, A Really Vulgar Icky System" (for making a Jarvis cake)...appropriate "v" words are hard to find, sometimes. =^~.-^=

Is it really so wrong that I hope for a wreck like this every single time I order a cake?

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

I had no idea cake dec, er, wreckerating was so easy! Click. Print. Done!

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

@mel and The Midnight Writer, bwahahahahahahaha *snort* *wipes eyes* -- those songs are priceless!

At least the kid got the toy on the Batman wreck a few days ago -- this kid gets bupkis!

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterZippy

@Jodee: I ordered a wreck for my BFF's 50th, with 17 specific mistakes. I included a typed page of detailed instructions, a full-color drawing of the cake I wanted, and every possible way they could reach me. They never called me for clarification, but they did call TWICE to make sure it wasn't going to go on "that website." Ironically, when I got the cake it had 14 errors. They'd "fixed" three of the things I deliberately got wrong. So, technically, they wrecked my wreck. I guess they should have just photocopied my drawing on edible paper.

It's a cake about a cake, a meta-cake.

I want one with naive curly writing saying 'Ceci n'est pas un gâteau.'

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTachybaptus

Considering some of the cakewrecks done from a model that have appeared on this blog, this one is almost good. But, I admit, that's not saying much...

January 21, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

@Zippy: hmmmm...laughter, snorting and watery eyes....mission accomplished! (Glad you enjoyed it!) :-)

Huz says, "it's cake-ception"

January 22, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEm Johnston

Well that makes me not want to order my cake now lol. Sheesh I really hope that the customer did not pay for that cake or got it free.

January 22, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

...Is it bad that my first thought was, "It's a pity the original cake reference photo wasn't Inception themed - what a missed opportunity!" ?

January 22, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNic

How lazy can you get? They didn't even TRY! Maybe the baker had no faith in his/her skills, and instead took the easy way out? Either way, FAIL!

January 22, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRoxy Random

Cake-ception! A cake within a cake! Change the idea of the cake to change the cake! (by changing the picture on the paper)

Such brilliance!
