What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Creepiness Continues

Not all Cake Wrecks are a result of poor construction, as you can see from this example. Some cake artists just seem to forget that, at the end of the day, their creation is meant to be eaten. Can you seriously imagine being told to slice up and serve this cake?

And baby shower cakes seem to be the worst offenders in this vein. People, try to think outside the box, will you? Just because the occasion has "baby" in the name doesn't mean the cake has to BE a baby, mmkay? You don't see bridal shower cakes made to look like the bride, do you? Oh, wait - scratch that example...

But getting back to this cake - I think the worst part is that the baby is staring at me. No, really - check out the right eye. [shudder] Dang, that would be spine-tingling even if it were a real baby, you know? (And can you imagine being the person who gets served that eye? Eeeek- I'm going to give myself nightmares.) Call me finicky, but I really can't eat anything that looks like its looking at me.

Still not creeped out? Then watch the video of this cake's construction. The final few seconds are the stuff horror flicks are made of ("The eye! It's opening! Aaauggh!!!).

I dunno...i find her boobies cake quite disturbing....those nipples stare at me through the lace. Like little poked pimples. It's gross. I guess for an all man party....ok. But also as a woman who's boobs will never and have never looked like this, it saddens me. *sigh*

Yes, in fact I *can* imagine cutting that up and serving it to eat. Hello, it's CAKE. What's the big deal.

Very daft article using a cake made for a cake sculpting contest as an example pic. Has nothing to do with baby showers.

[Editor's note- Huh. Sorry you didn't like it. I would, however, suggest that you check out some of the many videos online of these types of cakes being cut and served. Perhaps then, you'll see where we were coming from. -john]

I read the comments under the video, its for a cake competition, thank goodness. I wouldn't be able to put so much devotion into something that would get fawned over for two seconds and then devoured by a bunch of hungry moms. It certainly is a beautifully well done cake though. Creepy. But beautiful.

Cakes should not have finger nails and toe nails. They just shouldn't.

That aside, it's a disturbing cake.

Very well made though...

I'm sorry (well, mainly for the person who ordered it) but I DO NOT SEE how ANYbody could mistake this for a real baby. Seriously. It looks like Chucky and Christoper Walken's love child. C'mon people! Have a little more artistic sense!

Ok, I'm a little late to this (Have seen your site off and on but this is the first time I'm going through it page by page and I'm dying laughing when I'm not cringing.) Anyway, I had to share. When I went to the video for the construction of this cake, I got an ad before it that just...well, I won't link it here, but it's easy enough to find. The product was "poo pourri" and the ad was totally worth the Chucky creepiness of this cake. Seriously? Ye gods, gives "baby back ribs" a whole new meaning.

Gross - ewwww - no no no no! Reminds me of "chucky" type movies!

This Blog is great!! and it's super funny to view the hilarious cakes!! In regards to this "Baby cake" I know for a fact that most cake makers are reluctant to make them and will flat out refuse to make them due to the realistic nature. I personally find these cakes just wrong, and fortunately have never had to go to a baby shower with an actual "Baby Cake". . If I were a cake designer, and I were vindictive and wanted to f*#& with someone even more, I would make a red glaze that looks like blood on top of the buttercream and just before the fondant. that way when they cut into the baby they would see "fake Blood" coming out instead. (this would obviously be a prank). I guess it's my love of horror movies that made me think of this.

I would deliver it to my sister.
