Let's. Get. FLOTSAMIZED.

Tell you what, bakers, I have a great idea: Forget decorating, just throw anything on there!

That's right, go nuts!

Cookies?

AnnaRob.ow.cookies.jpg

Sure!

Individually wrapped & stickered cookies?

marywes.ow.wrappedgatorscookie.jpg

Even better!

Lollipops buried in icing?

jennamin.ow.wrappedlollipops.jpg

Why not?

An empty ice cream cone over a random pile of sprinkles?

hayvenall.ow.smashedicecreamcone.jpg

Heck yeah!

The pulverized bits at the bottom of an M&M's bag?

JustineVie.ow.gross.jpg

YES YES YES.

But let's think outside the "edible" box. Think you can jam an entire book in there?

taniashe.lw.curiousgeorgebookincake.jpg

Or a big silk flower?

crystalblo.ow.fakeflower-moldybday.jpg

Oh! And some ribbon!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHA...

*coughcoughcough*

*cough*

Ahem.

(gasping)
Man, I need a drink...

CamiL-crownroyalwedding.jpg

That'll do.

Thanks to Anna R., Mary W., Jenna M., Hayven A., Justine V., Tania S., Crystal B., Andrea and Anne Marrie, and Cami L. for remembering what's important in life. And what's important is being able to drink your topper.

This would ALSO be weird to put on a cake... but perfect for your laptop:

And from my other blog, Epbot:

10 Classic Kid's Book Cakes

Everyone knows it's Groundhog Day, sure, but did you know it's also Children's Authors & Illustrators Week?

Less catchy name, WAY better cakes:

(Bella Christie & Lil' Z's Sweet Boutique, Pennsylvania)

Where The Wild Things Are! Aww, this is perfect - and surprisingly elegant! Love the gold crown and birch tree texture on the second tier.

Who remembers this one?

(Heavenly Treats, UK)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar has such happy art - and the baker really nailed the look!

If you give a mouse a cookie... he might ask you for a giant cake:

(Sweet Tooth Confections, Missouri)

That's why you should give all your chocolate chip cookies to me. :D

(Especially if they're the ones from McDonalds and are still warm. MMMMMMM.)

I can't remember if I ever read Pippi Longstocking, but I vaguely remember her picking up her horse in the movie?

(Dolcidea Creazioni, Italy)

The sugar sculpting on this is phenomenal.

I could do an entire post on Dr. Seuss Sweets - and I have, several times! - but for now here's one that combines a few of his classics with the most perfect painting:

(Hot Mama's Cakes, California)

Awe. I AM IN AWE. I love how every tiny bit of it is illustrated.

I've also done quite a few Alice in Wonderland Sweets (the wedding ones are always incredible), but here's one more with those classic illustrations we all love:

(Featured here by the wedding photographer, but the baker isn't listed. Anyone know?)

The cupcake wrappers are book illustrations, too!

I should warn you this next one has Charlotte from Charlotte's Web on it, and Charlotte is a spider. She's not TOO realistic, though, and I am so in love with this subtle and elegant homage to the book!

Ready? (If not, scroll by fast)

(Mischief Maker Cakes, Kentucky)

Isn't this stunning? Not super obvious, but perfect for a bridal or baby shower with a Charlotte's Web twist.

Ok, back to the more cuddly characters:

(LeMar Cakes, Indonesia)

These soft colors are just like the illustrations in Peter Rabbit, and I can't get over all the details! Check out the window and door frames, the tiny duck pond in the back, and the flowery vine on the roof shingles. WOW.

Anyone else have a soft spot for the original, non-Disney Winne-the-Pooh illustrations?

MELTING. Look at the 3D butterfly on Eeyore's back, and Piglet's little flowers!

Much as I love that silly ol' bear, it makes me happy to see a Pooh-less design for once, too. Gotta give some love to the side characters.

And finally, a cake that took a little artistic license with Where The Sidewalk Ends - but I know you guys are going to love it as much as I do.

First a quick reminder of what the book cover looks like:

And now, this masterpiece:

(Mike's Amazing Cakes, Washington)

YASSSSS

I am Kermit-flailing so hard, y'all. This is beautiful and magical and I will think of it every time I see the book cover from now on!

I hope these brought you smiles and happy memories, Sweets fans. Happy Sunday!

P.S. I just found the best thing for teachers or anyone who loves Dr. Seuess:

Dr. Seuss Book Erasers (48 pack)

How sweet are these?? If I bought these (and I'm super tempted) I would always have a few in my purse to give out to random strangers, just for fun. :D
