10 Classic Kid's Book Cakes

Everyone knows about Groundhog Day, sure, but did you know it's also Children's Authors & Illustrators Week?

Less catchy name, WAY better cakes:

Where The Wild Things Are! Aww, this is perfect - and surprisingly elegant! Love the gold crown and birch tree texture on the second tier.

Who remembers this one?

The Very Hungry Caterpillar has such happy art - and the baker really nailed the look!

If you give a mouse a cookie... he might ask you for a giant cake:

That's why you should give all your chocolate chip cookies to me. :D

(Especially if they're the ones from McDonalds and are still warm. MMMMMMM.)

I can't remember if I ever read Pippi Longstocking, but I vaguely remember her picking up her horse in the movie?

The sugar sculpting on this is phenomenal.

I could do an entire post on Dr. Seuss Sweets - and I have, several times! - but for now here's one that combines a few of his classics with the most perfect painting:

Awe. I AM IN AWE. I love how every tiny bit of it is illustrated.

I've also done quite a few Alice in Wonderland Sweets (the wedding ones are always incredible), but here's one more with those classic illustrations we all love:

(Featured here by the wedding photographer, but the baker isn't listed. Anyone know?)

The cupcake wrappers are book illustrations, too!

I should warn you this next one has Charlotte from Charlotte's Web on it, and Charlotte is a spider. She's not TOO realistic, though, and I am so in love with this subtle and elegant homage to the book!

Ready? (If not, scroll by fast)

Isn't this stunning? Not super obvious, but perfect for a bridal or baby shower with a Charlotte's Web twist.

Ok, back to the more cuddly characters:

These soft colors are just like the illustrations in Peter Rabbit, and I can't get over all the details! Check out the window and door frames, the tiny duck pond in the back, and the flowery vine on the roof shingles. WOW.

Anyone else have a soft spot for the original, non-Disney Winne-the-Pooh illustrations?

MELTING. Look at the 3D butterfly on Eeyore's back, and Piglet's little flowers!

Much as I love that silly ol' bear, it makes me happy to see a Pooh-less design for once, too. Gotta give some love to the side characters.

And finally, a cake that took a little artistic license with Where The Sidewalk Ends - but I know you guys are going to love it as much as I do.

First a quick reminder of what the book cover looks like:

YASSSSS

I am Kermit-flailing so hard, y'all. This is beautiful and magical and I will think of it every time I see the book cover from now on!

I hope these brought you smiles and happy memories, Sweets fans. Happy Sunday!

P.S. I just found the best thing for teachers or anyone who loves Dr. Seuess:

Dr. Seuss Book Erasers (48 pack)

How sweet are these?? If I bought these (and I'm super tempted) I would always have a few in my purse to give out to random strangers, just for fun. :D

Wreck A "Bye," Baby

You know, there's nothing quite like a goodbye cake for that really emotional farewell:

Because "this cake isn't going to pay for itself" wouldn't fit.

If you're one to keep your feelings bottled up, you can always rely on a tried and true saying to do the emoting for you:

A missing apostrophe, an unnecessary comma, a snarky sentiment... this is what Cake Wrecks is all about, folks.

Sometimes a playful insult can help soften the blow of a friend leaving town:

Because there's nothing like a good punch to the ol' funny bone to cut through those pesky tears.

For your friends moving down under, there's always the short and sweet route:

So sweet. Like a lemon. Like a misspelled lemon. Like the face you make when you get lemon juice squirted in your eye. Which is coincidentally like the face I'm making right now.

Of course, the sweet can turn sour when an aspiring artist joins in:

I'd like to flick off those quotation marks used to indicate "waving."

Although, actually, it kind of works. Like even the wreckorator knew that hand was a joke.

Seeing off your oldest friend becomes a whole lot easier when you invite Tom Foolery to the party:

Because confusion is the best distraction from actual emotion. Who is dancing? Are there two princes or just one princess? What's a goad? Does Micheal really spell his name that way? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!

Still, regardless of your wording, remember to keep the attitude positive by finding something genuinely nice to say:

Hey, that could have ben a lot crappier.

Buh bye, Lynne R., buh bye, Stephanie F., buh bye, Tisiphone, BUH BYE, Corie, buh bye, Kary N., buh bye, Mollie R., & buuuuh BYE, Casey S.
