What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Getting a Bad Vibe Here...

Attn Parents: This post is not appropriate for young children. Or adults, really, but I won't tell if you won't.

Since I know you're curious about the behind-the-scenes workings here at Cake Wrecks, I thought I'd provide you with the actual dialogue between me and John while discussing a cake.

This cake:

Ready? Here goes.

Me: [calling to other room] "Hey, you don't know any vibrator puns, do you?"

John: [crossing the distance in approximately .7 seconds] "What are you working on?"

Me: "Oh, it's this one. I've got the 'bad vibe' thing going for the title, but now I'm at a loss. What else do you call these things? Do you know any euphemisms?"

John: [staring] "What's it supposed to be?"

Me: "Beats me. It just looks like a giant pink finger."

[both of us pause]

Me: "Hey, I bet that's one."

John: [unable to speak due to laughter]

John: [getting his breath back] "You HAVE to write this down."

Annnnd that's about it. By the way, I feel this is an excellent time to mention that, yes indeedy, we actually get paid now to do this. Living' the dream, people. We're livin' the dream.

Oh, and neither Lis B. nor I have any idea what that cake is supposed to be. However, since it was in the "kids cakes" gallery on the bakery's website I'm guessing it's probably some perfectly innocent character from a cartoon or something. No doubt many of you are preparing to point this out in the comments, too, so that the rest of us look like pervy malcontents. So, you know, I've got that to look forward to.

Livin' the dream, man. Livin'. The. Dream.

If it's not a number it could be the Stigma of a flower (guessing because of all the flowers and such on the cake)... otherwise I have NO idea.

I'm with the votes for it being Numberjack One

The color's slightly off, but the shape and face are good.

I'm pretty sure thats a numberjack, a kids tv show here in the UK!

April 21, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSammy

Seeing the way it's made (covered with fondant), it won't be long until a cake designer models a cake after some "toy" from Dr. Leonards!

April 23, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterwhizkidforte

I think its a teapot. I dont know why, but to me it looks like a teapot.

April 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlly

Puzzle solved!

That's my cake, and it's a Numberjack 1. Numberjackds is a children's programme in the UK, about guess what? Numbers. They all have faces and Numberjack 1 is a purple girl.

I keep thinking someone took "ladyfinger" a little too literally. Instead of the sandwich, it's a lady and a finger...

May 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Maybe the dildo from Yo Gabba Gabba's girlfriend? I believe his name is Muno...

May 13, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMrsAdorkable

Caterpillar! maybe? Caterpillar vibrator??

May 13, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMrsAdorkable

it's a pink coffin. the cake is self contained in it's horrendousness. concieved and died because it was so ugly, you just take the eyes off and put them inside and it becomes a coffin.

Ummm, right? Maybe?

June 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commentererin

It's definitely Numberjack 1 - and a far better replica than my own botched Numberjack 1 cake-making attempt. Oh dear. Now I'm going to look back on my son's first birthday with not a small amount of shame...

June 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFriday Films

Maybe a number one? For a girl's first birthday?

September 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKelsey

I'm almost thirteen, and I hang out with a bunch of cartoon-lovin' girls, and I have no idea what the heck it is. the first time I saw it, I thought, 'Giant pink nature-loving Twinkie'. Yuck. It makes me feel dirty to write this. :P

Being from the uk, my first thought was its a Number Jack but not a 'real' one but it does have the same sort of eyes.

Weird though!

August 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSarahw-h

Dora's backpack

September 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJess

As much as i agree that it looks like a giant creepy looking vibrator or possibly even a tampon for a giant, i have a feeling that it is indeed a kids cartoon character.

I'm in the UK and over here we have a show called the "NumberJacks" and i can only guess that it is a poor example of the number 1!
Here is a link. I'll let you all be the judge!

September 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAisha

I agree with the Numberjack One! I googled it, and so far it's the best fit. But definitely looks like a cake for a girl who just hit puberty! What better way to celebrate! I just hope it was a chocolate cake.

September 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSmidgettesCakes

I think it's a Numberjack (the number 1).

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

It could be Gooble from Yo Gabba Gabba Halloween dvd (I've seen that episode so many times, my toddler is obsessed with Halloween)

September 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBec

I actually started to look for a plus or minus sign, thinking maybe it was a pregnancy test...
