What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

We...... Need Your Help!

Hi Guys!

We've been tweaking some things here on the site recently in an attempt to improve load time and reduce glitches, but we're afraid this tweaking may have angered the tiki gods/gremlins/Blogger bogeys. And since every web browser presents a whole new fun set of complications, testing them all out is difficult.

That's where you come in.

Please, tell us in the comments if you had any problems loading, viewing or interacting with the site today. (This includes any RSS feed wonkiness.) In addition, if you don't mind, please let us know if your virus software or filters are blocking the site or any of the pictures. And remember, this is for posterity so, be honest.

Thanks, everyone!

Update: There are no images on this post and the link at the bottom of this post for Help for Haiti should not have an image either.

'Nother Update: Hey, Internet Explorer users! First of all, you really should be using a different browser. [grin] However, we know you don't all have a choice in the matter, so we're still working on getting all the IE kinks worked out. We'll update again when we've made more progress, but please be patient (and maybe try Firefox) in the mean time. Thanks!

It worked perfectly for me.

It took a little while longer to load your site than normal.

All looks good here (as always). Using Windows 7 with McAfee.

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered Commenter**K**

I can see everything fine on an eMac with Safari.

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBookworm

Using Windows 7, Firefox, and Comodo Antivirus. Everything loads fine here! :)

BTW, awesome Princess Bride reference! :D

No problems loading with Safari over here.

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered Commentercnuland

On a PC with Vista and Firefox and everything looks great!

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterClair

As you wish...

on a Pc using firefox no problems with loading or RSS on igoogle either. Looks great...

Good on a PC with Firefox.

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm on a PC with Firefox and don't have any problems. I also use Bloglines reader and haven't had any issues.

I am, however, very disappointed that you are not bringing the book tour to Albuquerque. Come on, even Bugs Bunny passes through! :-)

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered Commentertottergirl

Today it was slow to load and slow to scroll... (I'm on a pc with Firefox.)

June 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnoush

all good here- I've got safari (macbook)

Windows/Vista/Firefox 3.6.3 - viewing is fine, but lately it doesn't take the first word verification. Claims I got it wrong, puts up a new word, I type that one in, and the post works. Loading's slower lately, but Firefox keeps hanging and my high speed seems sluggish so probably not you.

From Windows XP computer at work, Explorer browser. it takes 2+ attempts to post a comment (same process as above, but has been happening for weeks & often takes more tries). Also, on the comments page, I get a warning about untrusted information or something, and that's the profile pics for those who've got a profile here. Everything's slow, but that's definitely our IT department's fault (all websites load pretty slow, and since you have a lot of graphics... well, it keeps me off except at lunchtime ). If I click on an archived page, the comments don't show up until I do a refresh. Might be just because at work we're stuck with antiquated hardware & software...

I'm picking up a new Mac laptop imminently; I'll check everything out from there once it's up & running.

PS Country = Canada.

My computer screen freezes up , message....not responding!
Three times

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Works OK, but the comments text written in black is hard to read against the dark blue background.(I think it's the first time the text appears black.)

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLinda

everything seems to be working fine now, but yesterday I wasnt able to comment on the post.. The option just was not there at kaall...

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAMAIA

Don't know if this is still helpful, but I'm on a Macbook Pro using Firefox (also sometimes Chrome, but I haven't tried it today), and the page loaded MUCH better today than it has for the past few weeks. Thanks!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Actually loaded faster than normal--PC running Chrome. Cake Wrecks rocks!

WV=dernia That'll learn'ya dernia.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnita

I'm using a Macbook pro with Firefox. The majority of the site appears to be loading okay, but the header is eating the stuff underneath of it, so there's overlap for the first centimeter or two of the post/sidebar. This also left the same amount of empty space at the top. Otherwise, all good!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKate

Firefox 3.6.3:

The day you asked, all was well.

Today, the site's been wreckorated.

The background/logo images have shifted down so that the links at top are in the title.

The background of the user posts is gone, making the black on dark blue hard to read.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRoland

No troubles with opera. Ran clean and perfect.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne Wargo

Using Firefox: Today I can't see any of the comments unless I highlight them (the text is black and it's next to impossible to see on the dark blue background

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKarah

i'm all eager to give you feedback.
i use internet explorer version 6 (yes, out of date all right).

your page downloads slowly, but once i'm here, there isn't any problems clicking, viewing, whatever.

keep up the good job, you're just great.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSzélsőFa

Vista and Firefox with AVG and Zone Alarm here. No problems with anything showing up ever but now loading a lot quicker.

But really hard to read the comments now they're written in burgandy (?) on blue.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterButtercup Bento

no problems with safari on my macbook

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

I'm using Firefox 3.6.3. on a Mac OS X 10.4.11 (I know, I should upgrade) and your homepage banner (where it says Cake Wrecks and it links to the homepage address) is positioned a bit low, so it's overlapping with today's post title...

Just thought I'd let you know!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnna

Hey Jen and John,
Are you still tweaking?

Noticed two things today after reading the new post ... One, in the single post page that I get sent to from my Live Bookmark, with the comments listed below the post, the comments text appears black on the dark blue background. Names of people which are links show up in the light blue link colour, while names of people without links are black. I think previously there was a contrast box behind the comments, but I can't go back and compare now, can I ...

And two, if there was supposed to be an Epbot ad in there like there used to be, I don't see it now. For whatever reason, it's not appearing.

Still using Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows 7 (woops, not Vista) without any ad-blocking. The other ads show up fine.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommentertheangelJean

Woops. Scratch the second part of my last comment. The Epbot picture link right at the very bottom loaded fine, just wasn't where I was expecting it!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommentertheangelJean

I can't see any images when I use Lynx on Red Hat Linux!

(Please don't take this one seriously - Lynx is a text-only browser for non-graphical machines like servers and routers. I was trying to inject some geeky humor.)

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJoshua

On my PC at work, using Firefox, no problems...on my home PC, using IE, I could not get on...screen froze while page was loading.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCyndi

I use firefox, have virus protection up the wazoo and have never had any problems. Love your site!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Hi, y'all, Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I really can't manage to read all the comments today. Since the change, the comment font has been light brown, which makes the comments really hard to read on my browser(Firefox)/OS(MacOS X)/monitor combination. Just FYI.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterans

Yesterday everything looked normal but today the header and some of the titles are overlapped at the top of the page.
Thanks for the great website!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

Well, when first asked there wasn't anything wrong. Now I'm seeing the header/title image looking all the "Cake Wrecks" title is sitting to low and is being overlapped by the "home, FAQ, etc." links.

MacBook using Firefox.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn

I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 on a Dell laptop running Windows XP. The titles of the post bleed into the tagline of the Cake Wrecks logo, as does the transparent box thingy with the rounded edges that the title is in. I hope that makes sense. No issues with the posts in Google Reader.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNomarella

I us IE and never have any problems with the loading of your site. HOWEVER, lately ( last month or so) I keep getting a pop up ad for Zone Alarm come across my screen about half of the time when I come here. It is one of those nasty trojan horse things that tries to get you to buy their "virus protection" by giving you a virus if you click on it. not sure if their is anyhing you can dxo about it but it is only you site that brings it up on my computer. I never click on it but it is irritating...

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterskinny minny

Using Firefox Version 3.6.3 on Windows XP Professional Version 2002. I'm usually accessing through my office's firewall and have had occasional problems with some pics loading....assuming that was a firewall issue. Haven't had problems in some time, but as the people above me noted, the Cakewrecks banner is dropped down a couple inches and the menu and "BlogHer" logo is on top of it. Otherwise, the posts and comments are looking great and loading quickly.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

I promise to slavishly obey anyone who quotes Princess Bride right in the middle of a blog post. I use Firefox on a Windows XP operating system, and got the post originally via RSS in Google Reader. All is well in this collection of technology, and keep on wreckin'!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Using problems, everything loaded, however the title graphic is sitting behind text instead of above it.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commenter:::b r a n d i:::

The site is working ok, but in Firefox on my PC your Home and other buttons are appearing over the Cake Wrecks logo.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterdsgnGrl7576

Using Firefox 3.6 on a PC, the Cakewrecks masthead is bumped down and the links at the top are overlapping it. Can't read them at all unless you highlight them.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Using Firefox 3.6 on Vista PC the pages load incorrectly. The top header area (presumably for ads?) is blank, pushing everything else down. The Navigation is in the middle of the "Cake Wrecks" logo and the top post is moved up on the page. Not pretty! Hope this helps (as of 1:32 EST on 6/3/2010)

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShari

I have to actually say things look great! I can actually see everything! Earlier I was not able to see the logo or any of the other fun bakground stuff! It also loaded faster than usual!

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

- yep, all is well on my systems. i use chrome, firefox, explorer, safari and opera on both PCs (via DSL) and iMACs (via cable). pages are loading great on your site.
the trouble these days is mobile browsers on smart phones, which i don't do... despite my need to try to "break websites".
i haven't read comments on here from mobile users besides the Droid (and the unresolved iPhone mentioned. if that works, then the iPad should too.)
it's been great seeing your blog/site evolve... and, again, thank you for the daily dose of wit, Jenn and John! (and tech-crew.)

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commentercris c

forgot to mention my PCs are running XP and the iMac is 10.5.8

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterknine22

Hey, the header links (contact/faq/ect) are all up in the cake wrecks logo image for me when using Firefox today. It looks fine using Opera, except for the lack of rounded corners.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commenter0s0E0h0

it takes a couple of tries everytime to get all pictures to load, though this has been a problem since wayyy back. safari mac user.

June 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

I'm on a PC (running Windows 7) using Firefox. There seems to be an odd gap at the top of the page (above the "Cake Wrecks" banner) and the "Home," "FAQ," etc. links are overlapping with the logo. Looks like maybe the background image got pushed down somehow. Hope this helps!
