What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Oh boy...

[breathing]

Okay, john... you don't have to vomit. You can get through this...

[sipping Pepto]

I mean sure, you shouldn't have looked at it but it's just a cake...

[pacing]

I mean, somebody ate it...

[gagging]
[sweating]
[tearing up]

Maybe if I just look at it again, I can get it over wi...

BLUARGARGARGURG!!!

Thanks to Sam H. for being such a toe-tally fungi.

I just CANNOT believe that is for a BIRTHDAY!!! Let alone a HAPPY Birthday. Uck.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCHristine

I call the bunion!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLS

Hello ppl, I'm so sorry this has made you all barf.....but then I didn't post it!!!! It did indeed make me gag searching google for images, then I got beyond it and went for it big style!!! The cake was ordered for a lady who had retrained as a podiatrist, by her daughter unbelievably!
We were doing pretty feet then she rang last minute and requested gross, if I could!!!
So here you have it, it's supposed to be pus not vomit icing....piping gel and icing combined(effective huh!!!?)
The recipient loved it and has been back for lots more cakes, least not because it was gluten free and it was the best tasting GF cake she's ever tasted!!!! Fairycakes and faces on facebook for all my other stuff if you like, poem is amazing by the way!!! xx

AAHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGG...

Excuse me.

*hork*

Sorry.

...GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDarla

We should be able to click like on some of the comments because they are hilarious!! What I want to know is what is with the toe on the top?!?! Is it out of place or do everyone's feet have a toe growing out of the top of it????

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMonica

Um, someone had just recently graduated from podiatry school?

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTXRed

I have a sister-in-law with second toes just like this.

That said, I can't imagine *ever* ordering a cake of a foot with gnarly nails and green slime Happy Birthday lettering. Ew. Ew. Ew.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPat

Is this suppose to be toes crossed? Why on earth you someone want a cake like that???? Also did they have to make the toes look so nasty!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJC

This cake reminds me of a horrible commercial for some anti-fungal remedy featuring an animated character called "Digger the Dermaphrodite." In the commercial, he would flip up a nasty yellow toenail and burrow underneath. GAH! The commercial was so scarring, but with time, and careful use of the DVR, I thought I'd put all that unpleasantness behind me. UNTIL TODAY! AAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercal331

It's a bit realistic but I think it's very well done. I assume it's done as a gag or joke...you just need a good sense of humour.

BTW this site is exceptionally slow all the time.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterReenaj

Now how did they get a picture of my foot to copy it. LOL. I am sure the cake was delicious though.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterluckee

I am loving your reactions ppl, you are making my night all the way over here in the UK!! Who would have thought a £50 cake(yes I charged that back then) would have been sooooooo well received, enjoy the rest of your breakfast :O) x

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNicola Shipley

I can just see the customer going into the bakery, putting their bare foot up on the counter and saying "I want a cake that looks JUST LIKE THIS! Yes, misplaced toe and fungal infection and all. Thanks so much."

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEssJayTee

Note to self: Don't eat when reading Cake Wrecks.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJael

@BadKarma: True, but DB's Poe-dietry + Cake Wrecks = WIN!

@ Nicola: Extremely well executed. Glad the customer loved it!

@ Sharyn: "...we're not a bunch of pervs, after all..." Bwahahahaha!

@ Haiku Joy: You can have the day off since you worked over-time on Pot Day!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

Well done, Nicole Shipley!!! Thanks for the background. BTW, what flavor was the cake?

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoanie

Erm, *Poe-diatry! Aren't you editors spell-checkers, too? :-)

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

I did wonder if when they made the fungus-y foot, they got the toe count wrong, so the little one on top is just trying to slot into place. It is definitely a weird birthday cake though.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelly

Supposedly, cake is for eating. One look at that thing, and you'd want to can it (after ralfing all over it)! The gimp who made this, uh... cake. What kind of drugs was he on?!!!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTom

I bet it was for a podiatrist's birthday....save me a toenail! Gross...

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commentertbreland

Gross!!!! lol I know one thing, if I gave that to my husband for his Birthday he would throw up on the cake. He does not like feet, let along something like that. He would not be able to look at it like it is just a cake. lol

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTerrie

@No capes - bravo!!!!!! Great blow-by-blow commentary!!! LOL

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

A podiatrist's dream!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPeterB

Why? Why would someone commission such a thing, and judging by the board, it looks like a bday cake. But why? I just don't get it. Even if it was a doctor who specializes in toe fungus, why would he want to see this as a cake? Just Why? Can someone please tell me?

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCarrie

This is fantastic! I am someone who avoids too-tight, too-pointy, high-heel "fashion" shoes, and this is the perfect response to all those shoe cakes! This cake looks like a bunion, which is what you get from wearing those totally impractical shoes that look so pretty done in icing.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJen

DB: Best. Comment. Ever.

Sharyn: excellent, as always.

This cake is toe-rrible! Thanks for the combination laugh/barf session!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCyndi

@Craig HURRY Can I place my order, too?!!
@Haiku Joy I agree with Andrea, as Craig once told me...It's not a competition. We enjoy your work.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEla

Yick... Ouch. that toe nail should hurt going down :{o

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterat

Speaking as someone who works for a foot Dr., very accurate! And should not be represented in cake unless presented to the previously mentioned person who works for a foot Dr. I would totally scrape off the ulcerations and fungus and eat it anyway. Hey, I am not one to waste cake. Love the poem!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

@ Nicola Shipley Lady, you do beautiful work! Sorry it had to be this one that showed up here- very, very, very sorry.

@DB you win the interwebs! But considering what it took to win that may be a dubious honor.

@Sharyn thank goodness I’ve never liked that song anyway cause I’ll only remember this version from now on!

Y’know, this comment section is gaining more and more punsters- especially with the songs. (sniff) gets me right HERE, y’know?? (pounds upper chest)

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

What's with the position of the second toe? It looks like it belonged to another foot entirely and got, like, grafted on to the foot.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMeaghan

Sick. Really, I don't feel well after seeing this. Seriously. Gross.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRose

I just want, nay, need, to know the reason behind this cake? Who? Why? There MUST be a joke here, right? Right?!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

CAKERWOCKY

Lewis Carroll(adapted Dan B)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toes
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the butt'r'cremes,
And the mome raths Fondantaines.

"Beware the Cakerwock, my son!
The toes that bend, the claws that catch!
Beware the Cupcupcake bird, and shun
The frumious Blandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal cake knife in hand:
Long time the marzipan foe he sought --
So rested he by the Yumyum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Cakerwock, with nail of flame,
Came plodding through the cakewrecks wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, one! One, one! And through and through
The vorpal cake knife went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its toes
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Cakerwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toes
Did gyre and gimble in the ovanabes;
All mimsy were the butt'r'cremes,
And the mome raths Fondantaines

DB, you toe-tally nailed the Poe poem. Very creative!

Nicolas, thanks for the explanation. This indeed is a cake only a podiatrist could love.

I worked for six years at a university medical center. And of all the things I saw and published, this has to be the grossest. By far.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTLCJ

DB, Sharyn, and Haiku Joy... I'm usually just a lurker, but you three made me laugh, even after seeing the cake pic!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSammi

I think the best part is that it is tagged under, "Beyond Bizarre" and "Eww."

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMissMaryB

Why!?...I...just...WHY!!??

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

ARRRRGGGG!!!!!!!! Quick I need a Sunday Sweet!!!!!!! *gak*

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTonia

The foot itself is pretty nasty, but what really squicks me is the toe that looks added on. I'm not sure why it bothers so much, but it really does.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCJ

Well this cake has ceased all my hunger pangs for the foreseeable future. It should be called the Diet Cake since once you see it you can never, ever eat again. Blech!! Unless that is for a Podiatrists birthday or something why would this cake exist?? Lol score one for the wreckerators at grossing me out.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

I don't know about the rest of the nastiness, but the toe on top of the foot is a relatively rare genetic condition. A choir director of mine had a toe like that on the top of each foot, it runs in his family. There's nothing gross about it. However, the rest of this cake is most definitely nasty.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkc

I need to figure out WHY so I decided it must be for someone's birthday/ graduation from Podiatry school party... right... or someone just had a nasty patient to deal with.... Grossest cake I've ever seen! Brain Bleach yes I feel the fungus trying to get me!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJen

That cake is just "toe-up!"

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermooj

@Jasry - furball cake! Great, now there's coffee spewed all over my laptop!

Only 140 comments?!?!?!? Is that a record! This cake HAD to be intentional, just to get on CW! Way too gross to eat...

DB, Sharyn, HJ - well everyone (you know who you are) - excellent!

Jen and john (thoj) , this practically wrote itself - we love you guys!!!!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChrisB

@Nicola Shipley - thank you for the explanation and for being such a good sport about it.

This is well done - enough so that my first reactiion was along the lines of "oh, ouch, ouch, ouch" rather than "eww". Glad to hear the recipient liked it. I have to wonder about the reactions of the other people at the party though..

@all you commenters out there - you crack me up. DB, that was brilliant.

@John (thoj) - hope your stomach feels better. :p

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

The cake was indeed for a podiatrist for the umpteenth time, haha!!! It was a Gluten free Madiera cake filled with jam and buttercream, tasted lush apparently. Hopefully one of my nicer cakes might turn up in Sunday Sweets one day......I can hope :O) xx I agree it's a barf-tastic cake, I did think "Really???" but then screw it......I'm not eating it!!! LOVE TO YOU ALL XXXX this blog ROCKS!!!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNicola Shipley

If it was a competition, I wouldn't be having fun! No, mostly it was my attempt to say A) DB's parody is so "Raven," and B) I'm not dead yet (though I have six students who might take me out yet, one in each class).

@lsolder74 - bravo and well-done! 'Twas the slimy toes!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

It's funny how I have never been accused of having a weak stomach...until I saw this.
