What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

- Jen

Frog in Your Throat?

She was a good friend of mine.

I never understood a single word she said

'Til she croaked at five 'til nine.

(I guess that's not a very good sign)

Oh JOOOOY, I'm gonna hurl

AAAAALL my hairs just curled

Boy this looks like Jabba, or is it just me?

Ooooobiwan, help me.

Ya KNOW I love the pastries

Love to have my fun

I'm a cake wreck buyer and a carrot rider

A straight hootin' chum of a pun.

I said I toadally love a good pun!

Oh JOOOOY to the world

ALLLL the boys and girls

Boy, how delicous can a frog cake be?

I faaaailed biology:

Thanks to Tim W., Megan J., Miranda M., Bethany, Ashley D., Vanessa H., Aslyn, Tamantha M., Vanessa M. for really killing the mood there at the end.

Frog cakes OFJOY!

@ joann: That's what I thought! Totally a Sleestak!

Oh woe is me, I actually like the CCC (patooie!) best. It looks like a cute little alien broccoli dog with a yellow t-shirt and black dog collar.

Is the last one a dissected Gollum?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRhissanna

You really need to put all the songs and thier new lyrics in pne place. PLEASE?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSam

That last one:

Never was a fan of biology.

Oh man, I was eating my lunch as I read today's post and I almost lost it after seeing the last picture. And I'm not one to be easily grossed-out. Blech!

Love your Blog!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNatosha

Great googly-moogly! The first cake reminds me of the aliens in the movie Evolution.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEmika_B

Can't.stop.laughing!! I don't know what's funnier......the cakes or Jen's version of that song!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKrystil

Yet another great song parody - you could give Weird Al a run for his money!
As for the cakes, all I have to say is yikes, yikes, yikes! o_O

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

Call me a science nerd if you want but I think the dissected frog is kind of cool....I can't say the same for the rest however!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

Hey, we have Jabba and, directly below him, Mrs. Jabba. Or whatever. (As I recall from the books, Hutts are hermaphrodites).

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

I love you. Whenever you do a song parody, I find myself just glancing at the cakes because I can't wait to read what you've written next. I loved the ending to this one!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermadtigerkitty

You croak me up!!! LOVE this post!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJolie

I absolutely need a coffee mug or something with:

I'm a cake wreck buyer and a carrot rider
A straight hootin' chum of a pun.

What a blast to read this entire post! I even ignored the cakes, just to get to it all, then went back for a boo. LOL!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJanet in Alberta

Rib it? What if it doesn't like to be teased?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

That last one was great! I can just see a graduating biology class around it!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBea

You totally win the interwebs today!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

Yes! I now know the lyrics! *hums*

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKeetra

Can't comment right now - I have to go find my Atari. For some strange reason I feel the need to play Frogger!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterScaperMama

You know it's a bad bunch when every other cake made me inadvertently ask, "What IS that?"

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

1. Scares me because it is just sitting there starring at you.
2. Kermit Rejects.
3. Looks like the frog in the game frogger after trying to cross the street.
4. Yep, I agree that one looks like Jabba the Hut. lol
5. OMG! Quick somebody kiss that thing, it is probably the prince they have been waiting for!!! lol
6 Getting there but didn't quite make it,
7, Looks more like an alien with its boobs located in a different place than a frog if you ask me.
8. I don't even have a clue.
9. Hilarious is what that is. And what takes the cake is the tongue hanging out. lol

The EPCOT Early* Warning System (EEWS) has detected a threat: attempted linkage of bad frog cakes to a particular region, plus a mention of Mardi Gras. No blistering comments from frog cake defenders have appeared at this time, but you are urged to know the shortest route to the bunker and be prepared to go there at a moment's notice.

*Early relative to the possible appearance of froggy flame-o-grams, not early in time, since it is afternoon on the East Coast.

#2 "Rib it...rib it..." I wonder what's on special in the meat department.

#4 Wow -- a great new use for leftover split pea soup, cheese wheels and condiments!

#5 Really? Really?

#6 Not that bad, actually. Ok, it wouldn't be seen on Sunday and the eyes do have a certain soul-sucking quality, but...maybe it is that bad after all.

#8 I see a possible violation of child labor laws.

#9 Is that really presented on a floor tile, or actually on the floor? Sure, someone went to a lot of trouble to make little organs and place them in we go again. Still recovering from yesterday...

Awesomeness, Jen.

I AM FAMOUS!!!!!!! I so love coming to this website, especially after feeling like I have done a horrible job on a cake! But to my delight and amazement, ONE OF MY CAKES IS ON CAKE WRECKS!!! Yes, the last cake is mine! It was one of my early 3D cakes for my son's birthday party. He was turning 8 years old and he was very interested in science and gross things. This was the first and only time I have ever heard at a child's birthday party, "DIBS ON THE LIVER!!! I GET THE INTESTINES!!!" HA!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMaria Starkweather

I am GREEN with envy!
TOADally loved the post today!
You really HOPped to all those puns!
You really RIBbet us with those awful cakes!
I almost CROAKED when I saw the last one, though.

Bravo! I love your new take on an old classic! Froggy cake for all!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLisaH

There is a festival and Frog Jumping Contest (they measure the frog's leaping ability) somewhere in California. Other than that, I have nothing.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkelticat

I had to go back and sing the post to the song. Laughing all the way (ha ha ha) [sorry]

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMarym

Happy poem in your pocket day!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatie

Love the last pic! I'm a high school biology teacher and the decorator nailed frog dissection. I'm gonna share this with my students before their lab final.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterceecee

The last one looks like it's being served on a cheap lino floor tile. Why? Did they put all the money into the ingredients for that Wreck & couldn't afford a slab to serve it on?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentergabsmom

*falls over laughing, wipes away tears of mirth as she gets up* Brava! Fabulous!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCheryl

What a day! My favorite website and my favorite songwriter, Hoyt Axton - I can almost hear him singing the new lyrics! He'd have loved them!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLori

BWAHAHAHA! Loved the lyrics!!! I love the twisted and demented brains of CW!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

This post is perfect since my pet bullfrog died yesterday! It brought a smile to my face!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

#6 yes. "Help I think I've been pithed!" (Part 1), and the last one, " Fortunately, I was pithed first" (Part 2)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentergobbler

I think another Cake Wrecks music video is in order.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth

Now I can't get the song out of my head.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterev

I was so happy to see that someone else besides me totally thought of "Weird Science" on #6. "Eww, Whats that? ......that's Chet"

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeatherB

I LOVE this blog! It is laugh-out-loud funny! My comment is actually about the baker of the "foot" cake of earlier post. If you check out Nicola's website, you will see that her (NON "foot" cakes) are definitely worthy of a "Sunday Sweets post". Her website is: and her cakes are BEAUTIFUL. The foot cake was so realistic, that I couldn't believe it was cake. Also, it was a Madeira cake, stuffed w/ jam & buttercream and gluten free, too. FABULOUSLY talented baker, Nicola.

DB, your poem was hysterical. Thanks again for the many laughs that this blog provides!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNew England Flybaby

Is it just me, or does the 6th one look like a Sleestak (sp?) from Land of the Lost? (the original, not the cheezy movie remake.)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNurseGlynda

Probably my favourite post of all time! Toadally made my night!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermrsmcfun

I think this might be your best lyrics rewrite to date. Brava!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterA. Non!

Oh wow. Those cakes are horrible and nasty, especially that last one. But your song had me howling with laughter! So awesome! Thanks for the laugh after a tiring day. Might dream about all the dissecting I did in high school tonight, but oh well. Totally worth it. :D

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

Can't wait till my folks get back from vacation so that I can share with them this post. We adore everything "frog" because my dad's name is Kermit!!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEla

Yikes to that cake at the end. Thank goodness I never had to dissect a frog. As for the other cakes..What planet do those frogs come from? Lol they could be muppets that failed their Sesame Street auditions..horrifying.

April 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Maria, Good job! Not only did the birthday boys love it, clearly it was the wreck winner of the day, to judge by the comments. Well done.

April 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKay

Brilliant post! Giggled like a little kid.

April 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKarla

I think #8 looks more like a gay turtle than a frog...

April 27, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercolleenoz

Calaveras, California. That's where the Frog-jumping contest is. Sorry, took me a while to remember iwhere it was. Immortalized in a short story by Mark Twain. I guess it is only fitting, since we were also the State with Emperor Norton I.

April 29, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkelticat

I just got off my multiple shifts on nights and am WAY behind on the Cake WrecKs, but that 6th frog needs a bit of a really dark, splotchy, tan and then he would be a FULL-ON CHET!!!!!!! (I hope I am not the only one that gets that.........) *it means I am old!!!!* *I don't wanna be old!*

May 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCrazy2boot

The second to last one looks like a failed attempt at a Bulbasaur... which is sort of a frog I guess.
