What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Random Weekly Roundup

Every week or so I sort through all the new submissions you guys have sent in. It's pretty fun, flipping through a random assortment of horror and hilarity all at once like that, so today I thought I'd share some of the ones from our latest batch that especially gave me the giggles:

Captain America Flees the Evil Laptop of Doom:

"Look out! IT'S ABOUT TO REBOOT!!"

(Yeah, yeah, I know it's not a laptop. It's Of doom?)

Call me old fashioned, but I usually like my weddings and baby showers to at least get their own cakes:

Ooh, hey, do you think after they finished playing "dirty diaper," the bride threw it over her shoulder to a waiting crowd of toddlers? (Whoever catches it will be the next one potty-traaaained!)

And speaking of parties, it looks like the Greens did the Time Warp at this year's "runion":

Hey, maybe they know the Browns! (You know, Doc Brown? Back to the Future? Oh, never mind.)

This next one isn't so much a wreck as it is my new favorite baker: Wreckporter Jen ordered a cake, and when asked what she wanted on it, she just said, "Surprise me."

This is what she got:

And finally, if you've ever wondered at what point your baker needs an intervention, this is that point:

That, my friends, is a donut.

A donut with an ice-cream cone filled with solid icing crammed on top of it.

It's basically a sticky, loneliness-laced call for help.

Better eat it quick, before it gets too depressing.

Thanks to Michelle B., Kayla N., Carlton H., Jen J., and Rivit for the 'screams.

Oh. Oh my. Pikachu nipples.

What is this I don't even-- *explodes with laughter*

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmy H.

I think it was already pretty clear on Cake #2 that the guy was Randy.

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlaxmom

That Pikachu cake...oh gosh, I'm still giggling. xD

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAnn

The arrow pointing to the nipples is just the funniest :-D Thanx for the chuckles!!

In British tradition, you get a three-tier cake for the wedding,
with the top tier is kept for the firstborn christing.
And the other 2 with one for the people at the wedding and other for those who didn't come.

Wierd so that cake kinda is actually really cool to me,

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermellonmarshall

The 3rd cake definitely says "Greer". I wasn't at this particular reunion (Thank God cause I hate my in laws - LOL), but I can recognize my last name in many a "wreck". Most come from handwritten cards, letters, and forms though. OR the telemarketer that butchers the pronunciation as if it was something Greek. LOL.

@AshleyP - you read my mind and stole my quote!

And my hubby was standing by on the Captain America cake, pointing out "Wait, isn't this the 'Blogger Jen' that you idolize and call your soul mate? Then HOW does she not know that is the Tesseract case and NOT a laptop?"

But don't worry Jen - I do still love you way too much for someone I've never met in person. :-)

Actually, I really LIKE that nipple cake. I'd be pleased as punch with it. In the eyes of the beholder, I guess! :-D

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLinda S.

I vote that "Pikachu Nipples" becomes the next shirt design. We atleast have to put it on an apron or SOMETHING.

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJaime

Pikachu nipples just made me laugh so hard I choked! So. Much. Awesomeness!

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRiver Bird

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Mark me down as another nipple cake lover!!!!!!! I will be giggling about that cake for days. I think we have a winner for the cover of your next book, Jen. Hint, hint!

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

I love this blog, but this is the first time I'm posting something... But the "nipples" cake, made me laugh so loud I almost choked.

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDanime

I just forced my husband to read this post a good 15 hours after I first saw it. I am STILL laughing at the nipple cake!

And I agree - the arrow really puts it over the top. Just in case we weren't sure where to look. :)

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKdot

Now we know what Pikachu does between episodes of Pokemon: he goes to the bar, gets drunk, and doesn't remember what happened the next morning. LOL

Yes, I'm a Pokemon fan. ;)

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commentertrfan01

Oh, sweet cone of sugar-induced-coma! Why am I never so lucky to find such a lovely treat? (honestly, I believe cake is just a vehicle for as much icing as is humanly possible)

"nipples" won hands down in our home. It even elicited laughter from my husband.

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPuppygirl

Yes Andrea! My favorite part of the Pickachu nipples cake is also the arrow. That AND that is is such a well executed cake. Best wreck! Best doggone(or should I say "dogdong") wreck ever!

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoemama

An ice-cream cone filled with solid icing .......... yummmmm!!

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDiana

I'd buy the top cake just for the Captain America figure.

September 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterC-Dub

The nipples cake looks like a DQ ice cream cake...and definitely the kind of thing we'd have put on a cake if left to our own devices when I worked there :P

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKC

Lol I love the surprise that she got. Never ever ask them to surprise you is the moral of that story hilarious though it is. Loved that donut plus ice cream frosted yumminess. I would be in a rush of sugar so bad my husband would have to tranquilize me lol.

Pika-boo-chu = perfect

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermsyendor

Oh Sharyn, why did you send me to Urban Dictionary? I was having a shiny, happy time singing along with you, and then.....Will I ever be able to trust you again? I think it will take at least a day.

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKay

I'm only a light flyweight for lyrics; not in Sharyn's class, but this is what came to mind.

For M. Dale, Isabella, and Jeanette:

Bring a cone, Jeanette, Isabella.
Bring a cone, filled with frosting, fun!
It's a donut, and you know you want one;
Colorful sprinkles are sweetly calling;
Ah! ah! beautiful is the sugar
Ah! ah! beautiful is the rush!

Also: the arrow looks like it's tickling Pikachu under the arm. Maybe that's what makes the nipples show up! :p

I seldom *actually* 'laugh out loud' at a post on the interwebs, but the 'nipples' cake just floored me. I was just howling with laughter at that one. Oh my, yes.
I have to ask if the baker has a long-standing relationship with the client, 'cuz I can't imagine making a cake like that one for a stranger! Sure, the reaction MAY be laughter....but it may NOT.....

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSandy Bratzel

I was wondering why Cap Am was standing on that star/circle combo...eventually, I realized they'd tried to do his shield but the outer ring of red is just at tiny bit (not so as you'd hardly notice) non-circular. Plus, the white ring is a wee bit (not so as you'd hardly notice) out of proportion and non-circular.
Maybe he changes in that briefcase OF DOOM like Superman in a phone booth? He's gotta have somewhere to stash the shield.
Clearly, I haven't seen either of his movies yet.

I cannot wait for the next, poor sucker to insist I attend a surprise party. I will be shouting "nipples." That's not really a wreck, of course, since it certainly surprised her. Of course, if it didn't, I really want to meet her and become besties. Hopefully, the baker comes forward for their 15 minutes of internet fame.

I see on food shows that maple frosted donuts with bacon are popular (urk!) but I would walk miles through snow/hurricane and uphill both ways to eat a donut with a frosting filled ice cream cone on it. That, my friends, is under the phrase "awesomeness squared" in the dictionary.

Sharyn, you should know by now how much I adore and admire you but "I’d avoid the Pokemon Until you put something on" WINS THE INTERWEBS FOREVER. Everyone should just shut down and go home now. Of course, I also now know to never click on a link from you. ;)

@SamMac fess up- you're the baker and you regret you didn't do the piercings (which would have been brilliant but I'd actually thought "too bad it's hard to make a nice icing boa").

@laxmom (stands and applauds)

@hypen8 the only thing better than your song is your name :D

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

To Zoomom: Nice.

And to Pikachu Nipples (thanks, Sharyn, by the way :-D ) baker: You rock!

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJill B

As for that last one, I belong to the Church of There's No Such Thing As Too Much Icing. Let us pray...

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBea

I just thought I would let you know that the Green Political party here in Aust was founded by Bob Brown. After seeing that cake and your comment it just seemed appropriate. :-)

Oh and Pikachu Nipples - :-D

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGerrieT

Between Sharyn, and nipples and frosting LOLOLOL

September 29, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Why does Captain America have a wizard's hat? I don't understand.

LOVE the nipples surprise! I want to shake that baker's hand.

September 30, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatimomkat

OK, the 'Nipples!' cake has me giggling uncontrollably at work. It's amazing. Funniest ever, with the story attached to it. Worth being embarrassed in front of my work mates!

September 30, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDanS

@Katimomkat I was wondering that myself, if you get real close and look it's actually a Captain America figurine.
Also - Nipples :D

October 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdaisy

I'd just like to say that when I read "potty-traaaained", I totally read it as Oprah giving away something. That is all. Oh, and nipples. XD

October 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGirlNamedCorrie

Honestly, after looking at the cake with ta-tas piped onto Pikachu with red piping gel, I can sincerely imagine a Snorlax cake with man boobs. (Snorlax is my favorite Pokemon.)

October 2, 2012 | Unregistered Commentertalfonsio

Is it sad I thought Hey pikachu looked amazing! LoL, very detailed with added red nipples!
I'd totally eat that cake!

October 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShannon

The important question is: Was the 'Nipples' cake good?

October 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEmnara Holiday

The big cross behind the wedding/baby shower cake caught my eye. Maybe a not so subtle hint from a mother-in-law?

October 4, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjulie

As someone who has made the Captain America cake before, I *think* the gray thing is a little stand with a monochromatic New York skyline on the background. Each of the individual Avengers cakes comes with one that has an "appropriate" setting. Why Captain America is not placed on the stand in the design, only the fine people at DecoPac can say.

October 10, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

Oh nipples <3

October 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMia

NIPPLES! I am crying right now! Best. Cake. Ever! I could only hope to be the recipient of such an awesome cake!

October 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPookie

That's my wedding/baby shower cake. All I asked for was a wedding cake I didn't even have a baby shower so i'm not sure exactly sure why our backer put that there. For the pp the thing to the left is our wedding date (4-23-11). Thanks Jen coming across this made my day:)
