What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Just remember, too much of this

Wow! Decorator#3 may want to rethink how to use a turntable.

Sung to the “Hokey Pokey”

You put some cupcakes in
With suckers sticking out
You close the plastic lid
And you shake ‘em all about
‘Cause you’re a drunken baker
Of this there can be no doubt
Just what’s that cake about?

You get your airbrush, then
You spray the dye all out
You take an icing comb
And you swirl it all about
‘Cause you’re a drunken baker
Of this there can be no doubt
Just what’s that cake about?

You take a cookie cake
You get pink icing out
Squirt “Hojjx Birtdoy, Deb”
Right before a short blackout
‘Cause you’re a drunken baker
Of this there can be no doubt
Just what’s that cake about?

Maybe the person who wrote on the cookie thought it would be nice to have an inscription that could be read from all angles? Who am I kidding- (s)he didn't think at all! And even if that were the thought process, the writing is barely legible. I'd still buy it and scrape off the inscription to have the colorful rosebud border though. I would try to get a couple dollars off for the writing first.

I'm so excited!!! I don't have to be sly about looking at your post today while at work and trying not to have my boss catch me on the internet!

I mean...uh....during my break. Yeah...during my break. That's the ticket.

The label on the second cake shows that this is clearly an abstract visual representation of an famous American event: Custard's Last Stand....

Happy Labor Day, fellow Wreckies, (or, Happy Monday if it is not Labor Day wherever you are), and thanks Jen and john (thoj) for your daily labor of love, Cake Wrecks!

@ Sharyn: lol...thanks for not taking the day off!

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermel

Does that last cake actually say "Happy Birthday, God"? It's either that or q@&.

I came here to ask wtf was going on in the first pic with the cupcakes but Sharyn answered it. Bizzare!

I thought for sure today was going to be nasty birth cakes. Ahhhh... thank you. I'll take trip cakes over rasberry jelly cakes any day!

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbakeshow

People who write likeme should not be allowed to decorate :/ Sharyn hehehe

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

the middle one says "make any day an occasion." too bad it doesn't specify "special" or "good" or "non-vomit inducing."

these cakes are appropriate for Labor Day (here in the US) as they clearly indicate the REAL decorators had the day off. nice timing!

The second one looks like a fingerprint, maybe for a CSI person?

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

I've just taken basic Wilton courses, but I can assure you all that the decorator of the third cake was clearly drunk when making those "rosebuds" as well. I made better rosebuds on my practice board on my first try!

...I've got it! The recipient of #2 just beat a game in the Mother series and is celebrating with a cake that looks like a battle background! (Not Giygas, of course.)

I just saw you on the daily site. Cool

Drunk Dancing Ron Swanson was the funniest 3 seconds on TV ever! I guess all those wreckorators were drunk on Snake Juice too.

Cake #2 there...why the hell is it $27.99?! I'd totally tap that it it were freesies though.

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHayseed

27.99 for cake two!...they must be high!

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjess

I thought the second one was actually kind of cool.

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

sharyn has once again made my day. :)

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteralli

Aaaargh! the second one is making me sick to my stomach.

September 3, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlori

Officially I'm not bothered by the second cake. It's a pretty pattern that reminds me if some lovely decorative paper I discovered at the art supply store the other day. Then I notice the red border that's been piped all wibbley.... And that's when the headache starts.... Cannot comprehend...

When I saw #2 I thought it was an artistic fingerprint... but the border is horrible :( Makes me so sad, because it is kind of cool!

Wow what is with the custard cake? It makes me want to run away screaming for some reason. Then again lol most of these cakes make me run away. The cupcakes well they died tragically in some form of lets shake the box and see what happens kind of thing. Poor customers.

Thanks, Sharyn, the hokey pokey *is* what it's all about.

September 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKay

One of the advantages to a slow recovery from surgery: Just discovered Parks & Recreation on Netflix a couple weeks ago, and have watched 3.5 seasons already! What a wonderful, funny show. Chris Traeger: "I want something raw and cucumber based ... a cucumber!"

I don't have anything to say about the cakes.

Sharyn, you are fabulous. Now, think Billy Crystal doing Ricardo Montalbon. thanks!
