What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Wedding Wrecks: Just Leave It

It's the latest budget-friendly sensation sweeping the nation - or at least a couple of weddings:

Leaves and twigs!

Not only are they "beautiful," they're a great way to upcycle those lawn clippings!

Just grab a leaf blower, and bam!

The cake's decorated!

Drape them for a drapey effect!

Or just jam them all over!

Leaves and twigs!

CONSIDER IT.

And hey, if that doesn't work: TINY PLASTIC SHARKS.

Bam!

Thanks to Ann C., Roger., Kim W., & Jen A. for the most baffling double-sided wedding wreck I've seen in at least a few weeks.

Another bonus to the twigs and sticks cake decorating - more fiber!

I DO hope someone checks the toxicity of the chosen foliage, before injecting the chosen twigs into the cakes. The first cake is "decorated" with fully laden California Pepper tree twigs. … oh, yum! And how palatable is Spanish Moss anyway?

Those sharks will always get me. Poor things.

1) This looks like something that should have a crocheted cover on it and sit on your toilet tank. Are the flowers to counteract the smell?
2) Is this Twiggy's wedding cake?
3) R-r-r-ruffles have r-r-r-ridges,
4) What are they trying to hide here, and why?
5) Jen, you missed one of the plastic animals. It's obvious this cake is A-OK. It has the seal of approval.

Not just sharks, but dolphins and at least one sea lion! Get a load of the cupcakes in the background. No need for plates or trays, just display them on a round of wood. Do it yourself!

Those little shark and seal things had the right idea....JAM those heads in the cake as hard as possible....eat a bit so they have at least a little breathing room...yah?
They could be allergic to some of that crap, you know?? That could be seaweed, or it could be poison ivy. I hope they signed a contract. We'll have to consult Mike up there to approve it!

Sharknado 7: THE WEDDING

November 15, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Color me stupid, but what was the baker trying to accomplish with the plastic sharks?

November 15, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterIma

I want to believe the sharks were jammed in there by someone's unsupervised 9-year-old kid.

[Picks baby's breath out of teeth] Mmmmm! Cake!

I don't care what anyone says, tiny plastic sharks are and will always be friggin' AWESOME.

@Ima - I think the baker was trying to say he was fin-ished.

@Heather - Sharnado 7 - That's too funny!!

That second cake makes me SO sad. Underneath all the"decoration" is a beautifully iced and bordered cake, with sharp edges and everything. It makes me think of the woman who wears too many accessories and should take off 6 before she leaves the house (instead of the recommended removal of one).

Thank you Jen, John, and crew for teaching me the difference between fondant and buttercream frosting. I was looking at trends-today website (they promised unicorn cakes! they lied, just round stacked cakes with "unicorn eyes") Anyway, looking at the pictures, I realized "wow, that one's frosted in buttercream, but THAT one has fondant". All my hours enjoying this website have paid off. Oh, and shrubbery on cakes is never a good idea.

Since the sharknado is the back side of the rather girly "leaves and twigs", I'm guessing the shark side is either a bow to the groom's taste or (I hope) some sort of personal joke. Would love to know the story!

It looks as if the last two pictures are the back and front of the same cake. Neither side is appealing! The second cake is hurt-your-eyes UG-ly!

I just can't help but think a small child saw the wreck and thought it was so terrible that he just had to help. So he sacrificed his beloved sea animals in an attempt to save the bride from being so sad on her wedding day.

I want plastic sharks jammed into my next birthday cake. Just because.

November 15, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDances With Lasagna

I was just smiling and nodding along... until the sharks.
Then I thought "cheap Sharknado theme?" but if so, then why all the babys breath? Now my head is imploding.

The Sharknado cake looks like a wee relatived decide to help decorate the cake.

My SIL never watches her sprogs at events like a wedding. One time her kid ran a finger across the back side of a cake. I could so see him shoving a plastic animals into one.

Anyway, the shark view is the backside of the sprouting baby's breath cake near the top.

For me sharks=NAILED IT.

Perhaps the sharks were put there by the groomsmen as a joke....

At least they haven't put poison oak or poison ivy on the cakes..yet. I am waiting on that to happen which I hope it never does cause boy would that be tough to explain to your doctor lol.
