What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

A Fairy Tale Wrecking

Once upon a crime...

Belle went on a killing spree,

while Cinderella stayed home and pondered the meaning of thumbs.

Thanks to Suzanne S. for making me laugh like a fool for far longer than is socially acceptable.

I think you can figure out what this is sung to:

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Belle is going to kill the teapot today
That smelly Beast should stay out of her way
The Disney Murders happen today!

Cindy’s blue dress on her shoulders
With no thumbs it’s factual
She can’t kill for satisfaction, so
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
She’ll provide Belle’s alibi today.

That must be the Other Belle. She looks like
she has the black button eyes & would explain
the homicidal look & lack of hands.

Maybe I'll make a coraline cake for Halloween.

I want to say something nice......
forget it! Why do they have arm stumps??
And those browlashes. Very creative. Maybe. No, just odd.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSBell

Wait - I think she's supposed to be like that. That's not actually Belle, that's Frida Kahlo!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCourtney

Oh dear, the ad off to the left is for a Disney movie...

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

So the Beast left the toilet seat up - again!!!

And Cinderella seems to be a little embarassed that she had to witness the nasty quarrel.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMiA

Anyone else notice that Belle seems to have undergone a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy on her right boobie? (And why am I noticing cartoon boobies?)

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commentercraftycassie

Reminds me of the Oingo Boingo song "Cinderella Undercover" - she works for the CIA.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMarlie

Ella looks like Leela (it's almost an anagram!) from Futurama, only with an extra eye.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

Annnd neither ever has a problem smelling their own upper lip.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

Given the amount of sparkling going on, maybe Edward visited both of them at some point...

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

Those are the nastiest, crabbiest princesses I've ever seen! That's probably because they were denied access to the Cake Wrecks blog today to see Sharyn's wonderful song about them.

This cake is a replica of the cake Paul Revere used to warn the colonists that the British were coming. While most are familiar with his famous ride, few know of this event. Paul had a sense that the British would be coming on April 18, 1775, the same day the colonists were having their annual Nathibnals Picnic, yet he also knew that he was scheduled to ride through the countryside that night to warn the surrounding villagers. Realizing he could not be in two places at once, he created this clever cake to alert the people to the imminent danger. Just after receiving the signal to begin his ride, he rode to the picnic and dropped off the cake, ingeniously telling the folks at the first table that he had brought “a dish to pass” and then off he galloped. The quick-witted folks hurriedly passed the cake around, thus alerting everyone, sending them home to prepare for what was to come. Of course, the message on the cake was the same as the famous midnight ride cry: two arms, two arms…..

Nah, we're waiting for the Sheena and Wonderwoman cakel, thanks.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commentergobbler

That Belle kinda looks like one that got hired for my friend's birthday party when we were in kindergarten.

Really, even my mom thought she was a thug.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBrie

I'm thinking drag queens at Halloween?? no?? anyone....? no?

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjuliebt

Well there goes my childhood memories...sharyn lolol

Borrowing someone else's funny:

Hey I just met you, and you look crazy.
What brand's your make-up? Crayola maybe?

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

Happy? Happy??? I'll give you HAPPY!! Well..... maybe not.

In all fairness, I attempted one of these 'beauties' for my granddaughter's birthday one year. I tell you, Princesses MUST have their lips enter the room FIRST!! They are near impossible to make lovely in buttercream.

Depending upon the age of the child this is for (hopfully 4 or below!), I'd bet she squeeeeee'd in delight anyway.

Thank you again, CW, for giving me a reason to laugh uncontrollably, thereby enhancing my life and prolonging it!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDi

Nice, zoomom!! LOL...

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Thanks Sharyn, now when I hear that song I'm going to think of this horrific mental picture of Cinderella and Belle. :-/
BADKarma~ I think even this cake would scare Edward!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJodee in WA

All I can think of is bad botox treatments. But probabliy that's not high on most pre-schoolers' radar.
@Mel Oof! Ouch!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdrgns4vr

Not only do they both need to ponder having no thumbs but they need to ponder having such short arms!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

That's what you call "Venus De Milo" style.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdrumnate

For some reason when I saw Cinderella's face I couldn't help but picture her sing, "Papa, can you her me? Papa, can you see me?" At least we know Barbra Streisand would look horrible as a platinum blond...

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRansom

I think Cinderella is really a man

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

They look like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane."

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTGButz

I might have become immune to all the wreckiness in the world... it took me a good 5 minutes to figure out what the problem with the cake is. And that was after reading the comments. *facepalm*

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterUh oh.

wow! I can't believe someone actually thought a person's kid would like that cake ! I think it would scare most 3 yr olds !!!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commentersheila anderson

What is wrong with their lips? Just-what? What is that?

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLinda J.

They kinda have the Bert and Ernie thing going on. Look closely -- but not too closely! Eek!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterstephanie

I feel guilty for laughing at this! Last week I made a birthday cake that the customer wanted three disney princesses on. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to make them look pretty! I squished my sugarpaste in several fits of rage...and I ended up making a banner and draping it over their arms....because they are so blinking small I couldn't face trying to make the hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVicky

Oh, my.... for once, it would have been far better to use those icing paper printed images. Fail-safe, if you just put it on right-side up. Are you sure these two aren't the wicked stepsisters?

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjune7

They remind me of Ed, Edd and Eddy in princess costumes.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLynn

At least there's glitter?? :/

"Toddlers and Tiaras: the High School Years"

my undying love is pledged to (in no particular order) : BADkarma, zoomom, Sharyn, mel, Jen (of course), Suzanne S and MiA.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

Belle's dress (well, the bust and sleeves) remind me of the Lorax.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJenF

Looks like their fairy godmothers have got some "splaining" to do.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRPainter

I can't believe nobody has noticed that Belle looks exactly like Frida Kahlo.

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterteckelcar

I was also wondering why they left the adam's apples off these two!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

These Disney cakes have an amazing talent for matching my Disney/Eddie Izzard series!

Here's one I made last year about Belle being a homicidal maniac:

Coincidence? I don't think so!

August 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commentersphinooccipital

Belle looks like she's saying, "What're YOU lookin' at?"

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGail

teckelcar, re: Frida Kahlo -- scroll up to Courtney.

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterari

I think both of them are serial killers by the looks of them lol. Hands or no hands they would make me run in terror. Sheesh I just hope whoever got this cake didn't have the nightmares to go with it. No name on it so lucky for them lol.

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

I needed a laugh today and now I have it. Oh my god hey are horrifying. Is this after everyone found out they were serial killers?

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

Did Kate Beaton go into cake decorating?

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJ

For this cake, the role of Belle is being played by Penelope Cruz.

August 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterFettFan84

Hey! I made the front page of.Cake Wrecks! OP here! This is from.a "professional" baker who works out of her house. She is the sister in law of a friend of mine. People pay her well over $100 per cake. She has a profile page up on Facebook but I don't want to post it here. I'm glad I made you crack up, Jen!

August 18, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne S.

Well, Suzanne, I hope that's not your real name, else that "professional" baker might figure out who's responsible for her new-found fame really quick!! (Why else do the rest of us use nicknames w/ no last initials (mel, Sharyn, Jen, etc) or totally made up ones like zoomom, GrnEyes, & KarateLady's Daughter? :-)

Of course, Suzanne could be considered a, ahem, common name...perhaps there's some plausible deniability there...We'd hate to lose a promising Wreckporter so quickly. You certainly have an eye for wreckage! Good luck! (And may the odds be ever in your favor...;-)
