What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Catch 22

Sometimes what starts out as a cute idea for a cake can go very, VERY wrong.

That's where I come in.

I *think* this is a groom's cake.

Let that visual sink in for a moment.

(Get it? "Sink in?")

Because it only gets worse from THIS angle:

Freudian Field Day.

(Is it fair to say this wreckerator really blew it?)

But on the plus side, at least there's no hook through the bride-to-be's cheek! Haha, am I right? I mean, THAT might have been a little weird.

Thanks to an anonymous minion for the bait & switch.

The day the Hokey Pokey went terribly wrong...

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

OMG - My poor tablet barely escaped the coffee spewing!!!! This is such a cute cake, but the idea of it.... !!! I'm speechless. I think the "wreck" vote should go to the people who ordered it.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

Instead of bobbing
for apples, we're bobbing for
Bobby's bibbidi.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Oh my God. I think they're sinking into the Swamps of Sadness. ARTAAAAAX!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTheCreepyTribble

That....that is just wrong on so many levels. Every time I look at the pics something new catches my eye that makes me realize just how wrong it is.

But it IS a very well executed wreck - I would like to see this wreckorator's work on a less...umm...controversial design.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLady Kal

Oh my God. That second picture... All I could do was slap my hand over my mouth.
Because my coworkers may have heard if I had slammed my head onto my desk.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTrista

Where is the NSFW rating?? My eyes, my eyes!!!!!!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

I like to see a man with his tackle out getting a nibble, although he'll have to yank his rod hard with both hands to bring in such a big one.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

Wreck or not? Oral arguments begin now....

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

I was going to post a comment until I realized I was speechless. So I won't.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

Yea gods and little fishes! Beautifully executed, though!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

bwahahahaha haiku joy. As for the cake-cute concept, but oh so badly executed.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1 I just...ahem. Where to start? Seriously.
First off, are those supposed to be all his old girlfriends? Like the ones that got away and the one that didn't? Because, that's not awkward in the least. Well, not as awkward as all of them puckered up waiting for him to choose which one he's going to "cast his line" to. I wonder if that works like water witching? You know, just point your "divining rod" at each of them and when it twitches, she's yours!

Oh gawd. How could the baker not see what they were doing? It's bad. It's so bad.
@Caroline B. *giggle*

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandy The politest thing I can say is that there's plenty of fish in the sea.

Thanks for making my day with this wreck!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Such a beautiful cake the decorator did well, the wreckerator was the one that ordered it.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

Someone should have tipped off the baker that this was headed in the wrong direction.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLorie

I thought Caroline B and Mel took the cake, but Sandy-oh, my! Glad I'm not at work! ROFL

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Pease please be intentional... Please? Are people that innocent?

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterinvaderTak

OK, so my first impression was that this man had married a woman with a bunch of kids, and he was happy to be their new dad.

Then I looked more closely, and saw that the heads were all swimmin' wimmin. Oh. And then, @Sandy, I had the same realization you did.

@Sharyn: LOL! Wonder if they did the Hokey Pokey at the wedding dance?

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Oh My.. He grabbed his rod, flicked his line out, and waited to see if he could catch some of the infamous sucker-head fish..

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbodynsoil

Um. Yeah. So that happened.

However, I'd like to contradict mindy1; because I think this was a bad concept executed cutely.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterErica

So I see the first picture and think, 'Well, that's cute and well done, why is that ...WHAT THE HECK? Is that her chin? Surely that's her chin." Then I get to the second picture, and discover that's no chin. I will echo others--the work is beautiful, it's the designer that's wrecked.

And at the risk of sounding like a broken record (remember THOSE kids?) @HaikuJoy, you are amazing and hilarious.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

O.M.G It took several viewings, but I finally just got a good look at his fishing pole. 0^0

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS Makes me think of a scene in the movie "Centurion" where the hero wanders over to take a leak on the riverbank, unaware that the girl is fishing a little further down and can see him; and she cheekily announces, "Are you planning to use that as bait?" :p

I'm curious though: are groom's cakes always tacky like this? I've been to a lot of weddings but I've never seen one outside of this site. Is it something the groom is in charge of so he doesn't "mess up" any of the other planning? Is it for the bachelor party, or do they trot these things out at the reception? Why do I feel like any explanation will just raise more questions?

@Sandy: *giggle*

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChaosTheory

Glad to see that everyone else who visits this site has a similar mind. Very well done cake . . . but did their mouths have to be THAT shape?
Yes. Yes, they did.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFM

The little brown-headed one wins, obviously....Hold on... I just scrolled back up and realized that I wasn't being specific enough. The little BROWN-HAIRED GIRL -with the pink ponytail holder at approximately "2 o'clock" wins, because she's the one with the rod's LINE in her mouth. You know, the string? Or are you all just HUNG UP back there on "rod"? I give up! Y'all are a bunch of perverts!
=^e.e^= (Okay~who just said,"It takes one to know one"? Is Theardare up there?)

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

The thing that gets me with this cake is that I could see the guy thinking that this was a such sweet gesture to his beloved. That of all the women he could have ended up with, he got the "catch of lifetime".
Imagine how torn his bride-to-be likely was when she saw this? On one hand, she sees her guy all proud of himself that he came up wth a way to combine his passion for fishing with his love for his fiance onto a romantic cake. On the other hand, she's looking at said cake and thinking 'is he kidding me with this?'. Hopefully, she has a sense of humor and a sense for timing.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTifa

Oh my. Who in the world thought that would be a good idea? I hope the wedding guests had a laugh :)

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHM

This really is a whole new meaning to cake porn.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKristen

That second picture is definitely the money shot!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommentermKla

Oh dear.

I'm leaning towards it's a case of "Can't see the forest for all the trees." At least, gentile-minded me hopes that's what happened. I wonder when and who noticed the other implications.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRanger

My first thought, because of the size and style of the cake, was that this was an adoption theme. Yikes! the whole concept could have been saved by a proper looking fishing pole not being held in the lap. Maybe the girls could have fish tails, not fish lips. Come on, people!

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLeta

Unrelated question: Why does one of the blonde ones have a nipple on her head?

I'm not the only one who sees this, right? Right?

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlcp

Okay, so I've lived under a rock all my life, but I'd never even heard of a groom's cake. So I looked it up. Here's what a bridal magazine said: What is a groom's cake? Traditionally, it's a gift from the bride to the groom that reflects his personality and interests in his favorite cake flavor. The groom's cake is displayed next to the wedding cake, and typically, it's later cut and put into boxes for guests to take home. According to legend, if a single woman sleeps with the slice under her pillow that night, she'll dream about her future husband... though we recommend eating your slice, since these days, popular flavors are chocolate, cheesecake, or even liquor-soaked cake.

So my question is, did this bride really order it for her betrothed, and if so, does she get to, uh, cut him? The images are all so disturbing ...

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterZeldabird

Dang - having problems loading the pictures again today. Worked earlier this morning on my home laptop. I am thinking it has more to do with my work PC than the site, though.
And this cake --- "What were they THINKing?!?!?!?!?!?!" is all I've got Ug

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Are those supposed to be children? They remind me of those Precious Moments figurines that were EVRYWHERE in the 90s and there was all sorts of paraphernalia to go with them. Things like baby books were fine, but there were also the gratuitous wedding cake toppers. Not sure if any of the figurines suggested fellatio, but I never saw the entire collection.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

Why is he just sitting in the water too? What a mess ha

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaitlin

Just don't google "fishhooking." khereva said so.

August 5, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkhereva

Oh man I am choking back laughter as I looked again at the fishing pole.. now my mind is stuck in the gutter again. Thanks wreckerators lol.

August 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Cute cake. Is the kid 6 or 7? Would the guy fishing also have a candle?

Presuming they were going after a cake referencing this children's game:
But, the idea went horribly, horribly wrong.

August 6, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

Has no one else noticed that among the inappropiate sexual suggestion, lets look at the move obvious here. Ha. The fisherman is magicly floating above the wanter without a boat while the rest of them have sunk into the water?!

August 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterN

Nancy Grace...What are your thoughts? I man in a bad hair piece fishing for little children. Hmmmm...YES I would love to get this cake on my 10 Year anniversary.

August 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTottie

Oh HELL no.

August 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChris

I find this cake disturbing on so many levels, I couldn't even begin to I won't. *silent shudder

August 12, 2014 | Unregistered Commenternancy merrill

You are all ridiculous! This was an innocent birthday cake for a fisherman & his wife whose birthdays were on the same day. Get your minds out of the gutter - this cake was BEAUTIFULLY executed and thoughtful.
