What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Tolkien Treats!

In honor of J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday last week, how about some Middle Earth-themed Sweets to celebrate?

(By Mike's Amazing Cakes)

The White City in white chocolate? I APPROVE.

And look, you can even see a tiny White Tree of Gondor in the upper court!

So is it too much to hope the Dark Tower is dark chocolate?

(By Market Salamander)

I see you... IN MAH BELLY. Nomz.

Or, if you prefer something a little more understated, how about these perfect Elvish leaves with the One Ring's script?

(By Cake Central user Jasley)

Or just the One Ring itself?

(By The Cake Whisperer)

I like how the cake board looks like molten gold - and I'm super impressed they managed to emboss the script on the inside edge!

Hmm, but I think we need some cute in here, don't you agree?

(By Love is Cake)

BAM. So cute.

And while we're at it, behold!

(By Imaginarium Cakes)

Epic facial hair has never been this adorable.

This one was inspired by Rivendell:

(By Cake Central member ChinaDoll652003's husband & sister)

Wouldn't it be perfect for a wedding? With the rings on that pedestal?

I love the way Sting "glows" on this one:

(By Coco's)

And one more Hobbit hole, because I can't get enough of that round green door:

(By Mother And Me Creative Cakes)

Also diggin' the stone steps and woven fences.

This wedding cake brings together Rohan and Gondor with emblems from each land, plus an Eowyn & Faramir topper:

(By One Sweet Slice)

Can't decide if the finish looks more like bronze or leather, but either way, I like.

And finally, the most jaw-dropping Smaug cake I've ever seen:

(By I love Cakes By Sheila for Cakes From Middle Earth)

His wings are made of rice paper, the body is sculpted of both fondant and modeling chocolate, and the flames are pulled sugar with LEDs inside. WOW.

Here's a close up:

No other words. Just WOW.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

How anyone could bear to cut into any of these masterpieces is beyond me. Breathtaking!

As I noted the last time this ran, the first cake is ALSO a wedding cake, with a tiny Arwen & Aragorn on the tier under the white tree. The bride also commented and said that everything was edible except for those three items, and that it had a TON of white chocolate and was delicious!

These are amazing! These remind me of my father in law, he loved all things Tolkien. It wasn't until he passed away that I realized they'd shared the same birthday!

Those are marvelous! Hard to believe the White City and the Dark Tower are by different artists - they would look perfect together at the same event.

It amuses me to know that in this community, I'm probably not the only one who marks J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday in her calendar. =-)

Gorgeous cakes!

these are amazing. I'd LOVE to know how much some of these masterpieces cost. I'd imagine they are a bit to dear for mortals.

those are all great works of art, but that dragon cake is mind-blowing.
