What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Fall Treats

You guys, the weather here in Florida is now a crisp, clean, [checking temperature] uh...84 degrees.

Yippee! Time to break out the sweaters!

Yep, we Floridians may be a thin-blooded lot, and our trees might stay green year-round, but that doesn't mean we don't love us some Autumn colors!

And pumpkins! Who doesn't love pumpkins?

 By Cakes by Suzy

How gorgeous is this? The Fairy Godmother herself couldn't ask for a finer specimen. Love the squiggle wires, too. (That's the correct technical term, right? "Squiggle wires?")

It goes against the grain to say it, but this next Sweet leaves me no choice: I think you'll find it's all bark and no bite.

By Cake Obsessed, aka Sweet Fix

Well, no bites yet, anyway. Pass the forks?

I'm seriously crushing on this anniversary cake:

Isn't that the perfect shade of green to go with those adorable little pumpkins?

It's no secret that orange is my favorite color - yet another reason why I love this time of year. It's also the perfect accent color! It only takes a little to add a lot of POP:

These colors = perfection.

You're not going to believe this, but the little pumpkins on this next Sweet are edible!

Yes, really; they're fondant "frosted" with sugar! The cake itself is fondant-free and hand-piped. Just amazing.

This one goes on my "all-time favorite Sweets" list:

Again, those colors are perfection. Warm, dramatic, cheerful: everything you could want from the season! Plus, if you've ever wondered how to pull off a short topsy-turvy cake, this is the gold standard right here. Great angles.

Ever wonder if fairy houses change with the season?

You can almost see little wisps of smoke coming out of that chimney, can't you? And check out the perfect line shading on the steps and flowers by the door; it looks more like a 3D painting than a cake!

This couple met at a campfire, so they asked for one on their wedding cake:

And I bet you never thought a campfire could look this sweet!

Seriously. Those little flames? And logs that look like actual tree logs and not poo? I die. I die of cute.

It's easy to get caught up in the traditional Fall themes and designs, but there's plenty of room for some modern chic:

This autumn wedding cake features the sweetest lil' nuzzling blue birds and clean, bold lines. I like it!

And hold onto your hats, 'cuz this next Fall design is a real Drama Queen:

By YOU'nique Cakes

Oooh, love the reds and teals mixed in with the more traditional oranges and dark browns! Gorgeous!

And finally, let's end with a quintessential Fall beauty:

By Tiffany's Baking Co.

A bushel of apples, whimsically stacked tiers, perfect piping, delicate flowers...and all wrapped up with a raffia bow!

Just look at those details - right down to the "staples" holding the barrel together! And the piping! And the flowers! Totally swoon-worthy.

Oh, and I never pay much attention to the flavor details on Sweets, but this one was pumpkin cake with a caramel apple filling and cream cheese frosting. I don't even like cream cheese frosting, guys, and I'm totally drooling over here. Mmmm.

Hope this helped launch you into the Fall spirit, my friends! (And if you can't get enough, there are more here and here.)

Bakers, did you know you're allowed to nominate your own Sweets? In fact, we encourage it! So please, send your favorites to Sunday Sweets {at} Cake Wrecks {dot} com.

Wow, just wow! And I have to agree the one with the orange ribbons on each tier took my breath away. I LOVE orange too!

How to cut a topsy turvy cake - for all those who are befuddled at the thought: After the cake is dissassembled into indivudual tiers, you cut off the top "topsy" parts of each tier *horizontally*, slice that up as best you can, then you cut the remainder of the tier in the standard way.

I've been so inspired by the Love Birds cake, that I made a pendant in silver and copper.

I tried to get in touch with the cake maker to let them know, but I couldn't leave a comment on the Cake Central site. Would you be able to pass on the URL or just let them know that they inspired me?

I've put a link to this site and to their cake on the post.
Thank you.
