What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

And They Say Motherhood Has No Rewards

Despite all the trials and heartaches, the lack of sleep, the whining, the runny noses, the LEGO tripping hazards, and the occasional visit from the local fire department, moms know that it's moments like these that make parenting all worthwhile:

"Sorry, Mom. There wasn't room to mention how bad you smell.

"Now, chop chop! This cake's not gonna cut itself."

Thanks to Rita G. for not making a monkey out of me.

At least it doesn't say "And flinging your poo!"

Why would anyone do this? WHY??

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermimimv

Ooh, two posts in one day? You spoil us, Jen :).

Yeah... 'Kid Gets Icing Head Trauma' for tomorrow's headline.

Look at the beautiful longhand, the perfect spelling, the delicate details on the piping violets...
Why God WHY!?!?!?

(I miss my wv)

Is it technically a wreck if that's what they ordered? It's not a cakewreck, it's an orderer wreck!!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMMCQuarterback

I stared at that for several moments to understand what was wrong...THEN I noticed they were simians. Made me think of the ending of the movie Grease where they're sticking their heads through the holes with the funny pictures on the board.

Oh my I'm not sure what to say about this one. That kind of looks like moss instead of fur. Hope it isn't catching.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

If a person doesn't like a family member, why buy a cake for them? That's the only explanation I can think of for this particular cake. It looks like the decorator did a good job on a bad order.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterOrilon

Seriously? It was meant to be a joke. Is it classy? No. Elegant? No. But it's a visual pun based on a silly version of the birthday song. Why be so offended? I kinda think it's funny...

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGigi C.

I confess I don't get it.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

At least it's spelled right! :-)

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Gigi C.

We just thought it was kinda funny.

I'm thinking it was the kid's idea. I wonder if dad got in trouble for going along with it.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

I'd say it's also a contender for Awkward Family Photos....creepy.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPattypro

Come on, people. It's based on that kid classic, "Happy Birthday to you/You live in a zoo/You look like a monkey/And you smell (or act, depending on the version) like one too." I think it's funny that someone used the rhyme--but the cake is kind of strange looking...

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLynn

It's not my birthday until tomorrow! But thanks for the thought. I hope it's chocolate!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRikki

Funny?! :D Count me in. Best laugh of the night. Anyone that has any appreciation of moms and how hard they work would probably find this funny (not AT ALL an appropriate joke to play on any lady!) :D Thanks!

This cake = WRONG
Two posts in one day = OH so right!!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

I have to admit , I would love it if my family got me a cake like that!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterjulie

I hate it anytime that people's heads are pasted onto anything other than their real body. That's awful.

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterbabird1

I LOLLED. I'm a mom and I would love that cake, and my kids would love to get it from me! Y so serious, wreckies? That's some of the best freehand writing in the free world! I appreciate that cake!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterdnana

My mom would've smashed my head into that thing!

August 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJess

Horifically funny. Not nice, but very, very funny.

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Wow.. my mom would have killed me if I gave her a cake like that for her birthday. Hilarious though at least the kid is also turned into an ape although mom looks like her fur turned into some kind of weird fungus lol.

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Oooh, I may do this for my younger brother except it would be for a family reunion we have coming up......he's not exactly on my friend's list at the moment.... >:D

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMe

I'm reading this and laughing. My younger sister lives with three little monkeys, ages 7, 6 and 5. They're cute and sweet as anything, but WATCH OUT!!!

If we gave her this cake for her birthday, she'd probably wring our necks! But it would be worth it!!!

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

I would love to get a cake like that! At our house that song gets sung to you on your b-day no matter how old you are and if I don't call and sing it, I get crap about it! LOL

In fact my niece is preggo and the other day I changed the end to and you waddle like one too!

It is all in good fun and just a funny tradition we have around here, but we are kinda weird I must admit! .

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTeresa

If I were to get something like that for my mom, she'd be like, "Very funny; now where's the real cake?"
(That said, I have to admit I giggled.)

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

This would go over very well when I was growing up. My Mom would've thought this was a riot! Then again, we call her "Iguana," which she doesn't mind at all. In fact, she brags about it. She says she never turns her head in a store when some random purse yells Mom. She waits for "Iguana!"

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterretropink

I have to say,
That's an awesome cake

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterScorp

OMG. Points for most worthless use of photoshop AND "edible" paper on one wreck. Yucko Bucko.

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermiss_paper

Still.... At least she got Sprinkles!

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKerryatter

Quite possible a birthday cake for a woman who loves singing the "funny" version every chance she gets?

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJames

By my calculations, ~g^pi means approximately 1304. "~" being the scientific sign for 'I think it's something like...', 'g' being acceleration due to gravity (~9.81) and pi being our 2nd favourite irrational constant, ~3.141592 (how-I-wish-I-could-calculate-pi). Second favourite after 'e'. Everybody loves 'e'.
Hope this helps you baffle your auditors! :P

I'm a mom and I think it's hysterical. I would have a good laugh if one of my kids gave it to me. And if I gave it to my youngest daughter, she would have a good laugh too. However, if I gave it to my oldest daughter she would cry for a month.

And hey, the son turned himself into a monkey too. Perhaps the mom refers to her household as a Zoo. It is certainly how it feels at times when the kids are still little. :-)

p.s. John and Jen: I love the lack of the wv. Those captchas are really annoying!

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKati

Hey - Maybe that lady is a zookeeper in the monkey house! In that case, this cake would be TOTALLY appropriate!

August 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNikki

I think this cake is too funny...I love someone with a good sense of humor, it's a little off the wall humor, but a good one...This Mom is loved!

August 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPull my finger

This cake can almost work for TWO blogs... yours AND! HAhahahahahahaha!!!!!!
