What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

All Thumbs

You've got to hand it to a baker who can knuckle down and bring a touch of class to a "Finger Football" cake:

Offhand I'd say s/he nailed the look with some sort of digital manipulations, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Oh, and I heard there used to be a few more fingers on the cake board, but you can never put too much faith in second hand rumors.

Hey, Elizabeth M., slap me two!

Well, I saw this thing
Comin' out of this guy
It had fingernails
And it caught my eye
I commenced to shakin'
And I said "oohwee
It looks like a mutant
Football player to me"

It was a two-thumbed, four-nailed
Mutant fingered football player
Two-thumbed, four-nailed
Mutant fingered football player
Two-thumbed, four-nailed
Mutant fingered football player
Sure looked strange to me

Ummm, my first thought weren't fingers...

That's IT? I know it's Friday, but WHAT is this saying?? Are ya in a big hurry to leave town, or something?
Well, anyway, have a nice weekend! At least it wasn't just one finger...heh heh...

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Sharyn, that will be in my head all day!
Is it bad that my first thought was "Thalidomide was banned, right?"

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

OKAY, listen up! I JUST saw a news item about some weirdos in Key West, Florida, who made the "World's Biggest Key Lime Pie." Check it out!! It's...actually kind of disgusting!
Yeah? YEAH???

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

To the person who eats the fingernail piece: I am judging you. Harshly.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLaxmom

I guess they achieved their goal, but I'll pass all the same.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterNyperold

I just hope poor Clay isn't scarred for life!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDrockbox

if today's post were a movie...I'd give it two thumbs sideways...

@Sharyn: somewhere Sheb Wooley is smiling....

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermel

Thanks so much for the ear-worm today @Sharyn o.O

I am more than a little frightened about that thing up there. Why? Just...why??? I kinda want to know the back story on this one but I'm afraid that it might make it worse O.O

I can't believe I totally missed Sharyn's EPIC post yesterday! (well, technically I saw it at 11:00 pm so that still counts!). Hope everyone had a safe 4th of July! I made a cake and let me tell ya, it's a good thing nobody pays me to do it because I would TOTALLY end up on here! But at least I tasted yummy :-)

What occassion calls for a thumb cake? even a well done one?? D:

Sharyn thanks for making giggle under my breath at my new job :D

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Yeah, Karen-TELL me about it!! Yikes. And it even looks MORE so if you look at the photo upside-down. Like Siamese twins or something. Whatever- it's CA-REEP-EEEE!!!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I was going to say something about being all thumbs, but then I noticed that the lower, horizontal digits, looked more like big toes. Ewwwwww!!!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterOldish Lady

Welcome back Jen! So glad that you're feeling better!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBella

Can I have a piece of the football? Because I really don't want a piece of the hands.

Love the song, Sharyn!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMuria

I've just spent the last 15 minutes trying to make my fingers do that, then my feet, and then just gave up. I'm not sure who was the model for this, er, attempt but it wasn't human.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterFM

Mystically moronic. I think I'd be terrified to meet the being who made it, if that's how they really see the world....
(Chill down the spine, anyone? They're free with every viewing.)

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Would make great salt and pepper shakers.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSarah B.

I'm thinking it's supposed to represent the way people make the goal posts with their fingers. Kids used to fold paper and "play football" in class this way. You basically put your thumbs together at the ends and raise your index fingers (like an L and a backward L). However, this cake kinda missed the field goal, no extra point for them.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMyra

Imagine just sitting there while someone hands you a piece of this cake (no pun intended) and you just have to stare at it deciding whether or not it's safe to eat. I would definitely NOT want the nail... D:

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterheather

Maybe a Sontaran was the model?

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

my name is Clay. I am very confused now...

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterClay

@ Sharyn--wonderful, as always. The cake? Not so wonderful, but really, really funny. LOL

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

@sendingtheclowns: I was going to say look at it sideways... But then I decided everyone would be scarred for life. As if we weren't already... Siamese twins you say? I like it.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTarahCurrie

I had a friend who used to say (when the occasion was appropriate): "Look, I didn't come ALL the way over here just to have YOU p*** me OFF!" I always got a kick out of it. That remark seems like it would be just the ticket when returning that atrocity to the "baker" who made it. Yah? =^~.~^=

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Was Billy Barty the inspiration for the hands? Looks like the right pointer's nail has a fungal issue.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChris

@mel: "... two thumbs sideways..." No, not even THAT would help!! Unless you take the sideways thumbs and poke my EYES out! But I've already seen it--it's too late! Way to drive a person totally 'round the twist!! I want to go running down the street, screaming! It's just IMPOSSIBLE-the hands are not POSSIBLE!! *whimper* =^q.q^=

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Myra, you are right and though I would rarely come to the defense of a wreckorator, I totally get this one! Bend your fingers like this and you will see the little creases in your palm along with the fingernail, so it is sort of an optical illusion.

I know, lame attempt at justifying a wreck such as this, and while I get the concept, I don't think I could bring myself to eat a "nail." Yuk!!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMajksmom

This person is quite special. It's not everyone who has fingers growing out of their big toes!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTauna

Nice detail with the fungal infection too.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKath

Huh. I've never seen a giant fingernail on a scrotum before.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRachael

Yeah, I think the wreckerator was trying to make the thumb-and-index-finger goalposts. This wreckerator should get a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and another 15-yard penalty plus loss of down for a personal foul. Then the wreckerator should punt and stick to replicating regular goalposts. Hopefully they won't mess up straight lines!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

@TarahCurrie: Yes, I wrote that other term, but I MEANT to write "conjoined" twins. The other version is not considered appropriate or correct any more (nor should it be).
@Clay: So, you're "very confused now"? Well, don't worry yet, for Heaven's sake! It gets worse!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I can be stubborn at times, and don't like to think that an ugly cake got the best of me. So, I studied it one more time. Now, I think that I FINALLY get what happened! Using ONLY my index fingers and my thumbs, I can "almost, sort of" see what they did, here. I "simply" have to "pretend" that all of my other fingers "don't exist".
~Whew!!! I'm glad that's over!!

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

@mindy1 - Congrats on the new job! Now, friendly reminder, when @ work, *DON'T* eat or drink anything while looking @ Cake Wrecks! And if Jen says NSFW, that's Not Safe For Work!, K? :-)

Wishing you well in your new career,

@mindy1 -- Yay on the new job! (Now you can add a whole NEW group of people to the CW family.)

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Is it just me or were those thumbs made by the famous pecker pan.

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMe

@Nyperold BRAVO!!

@mindy1 congrats on the new job!

the wreck? KILL IT WITH FIRE

July 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

What if this cake is to scale?
Sweet dreams, everyone.

July 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

July 6, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Oh my that I have seen this I cannot unsee what others have suggested that looks like lmao. Oh dear. Someone find the brain bleach because this thing is going to cause nightmares.

July 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

i'm trying to think of some sort of pun & failing, that's just such a creepy-looking confection.

July 6, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterarchersangel

I think I've got it (finally) You put both thumbs up and then put your knuckles together - look - it all becomes clear (ish) :-D
