What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Billy Ray Cyrus

Don't bake a heart
A pink cupcakey heart
The frosting's more than I can stand
And if you bake a heart
A pink, cupcakey heart
I might throw up in this here pan.

Carly Rae Jepsen

Hey! I don't get this.
But it looks crazy.
It's NOT a handset.
Banana maybe?

And of course, Sheb Wooley!

It was a one-armed, unborn, fondant covered creepy baby.
(One-armed, unborn, fondant covered creepy baby...)
One-armed, unborn, fondant covered creepy baby
Sure looked strange to me!

Oh yeah! You're gonna be hearing that ALL DAY!

There's even something for kids!

Veggie Tales

Oh, where is my airbrush?
I care for my airbrush.
I have to spray a bit more over theeeerrrrre...
With my airbrush!

The Wizard of OZ

We represent
the lollipops killed...
The lollipops killed..
The lollipops killed.
We represent the lollipops killlllllllllled.
Why'd you stick us on here unwrapped, man?

And everyone's favorite:

It's a mauled world after all!
It's a mauled world after all!
It's a mauled world after all!
It's a mauled, mauled World!

Just repeat that in your head 200 more times! Now you're getting it!

So order yours today! Operators are standing by...

It's wrecky and you know it!
It's wrecky and you know it!
(Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle sprinkle, yeah.
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle sprinkle, yeah.)

Repetitive thanks to Lisa B., Alissa, J., Anony M., Christina B., Kendra, Karen, and Andrea B., for supplying us with the source of madness, and a special thanks to Mr. Chekov, who had the worst ear worm of all.

Damn that baby one is the stuff of nightmares D: the rest just make wonder...

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Yet another awesome post! Almost helped me forget about the death-plague :D

Sharyn, You must be the world champion at Mad Gabs. You are incredibly talented. Or related to Weird Al Yankovic. You should really write some new hits with him.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTracy W.

Please, oh PLEASE! Someone feel challenged to make a YouTube video out of this. If I had the time and the talent, I'd do it myself.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAshley P

I will indeed be hearing "One-armed, Unborn, Fondant Covered Creepy Baby" all day,
and I'll be enjoying it!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Sharyn: Know that you will be cursed by people like me all day for creating such masterful ear worms. I've got one stuck right now, in fact. The rest will be cursing the creator of that horrid baby cake and looking for eye bleach.

I had to blow up the second picture of the banana phone in a sauna to realize that part of the cake was gone. I thought the wreckerator had reached the "demarcation line of no return" and suddenly stopped decorating. This is what happens when I look at Cake Wrecks first thing in the morning.

When I saw that last cake, I thought the operators were standing by to fling themselves off the top of the building at the sight of such a mess. Even if it does have sprinkles.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Oh god that baby. Oh sweet Jesus god that baby. Oh Mary mother of god if I saw that thing under my bed or crawling up out of the toilet I would die. I mean like super die. Like my heart would just go or something.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHolly Folly

And just like that-
tear-laden laughter.

Thank you.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

My favorite is the "It's a mauled world" one -- that song is the worst earworm ever and this version made me laugh out loud.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

"One-armed, unborn, fondant covered creepy baby" is AWESOME. Way better that the real song, and I will sing it frequently on purpose just for the laughs.

The last one looks like it says "Happy the Birthday." It must be the sprinkles.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring, Bananaphone...

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDave W.

Love the Mr. Chekov reference! Thanks Sharyn!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Reminds me of the segment on "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" where they do random songs based on an audience members' occupation. "This 4 CD set, yours for only $59.99!" and great VeggieTales reference--we all know they're funnier to adults than kids, right?

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTamiko

This is like "Distilled awesomeness of Sharyn x 10000." Like like like!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

Seriously. What Tracy said. You are really good at this. Weird Al should ask you to open for him.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKendra

Love the Star Trek reference, Thanks! (But not for the earworms. Must go wash my brain now.)

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJessica H

hahahahahhaha...tooooooooooo funny! You've found your calling, Sharyn, and I'm so glad your answered! And Sheb Wooley...a real "blast from the past"! Thanks for the fun!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

My thoughts as I scrolled through the last cake - "at least they got sprinkles"!!! LOL

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

Why am I not "hearing" the last one? Sprinkles, sprinkles, sprinkles? /turns in geek card for not being worthy

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPamtha

Top half says "Bear paws,"
but bottom half says "Texas" -
Such untamed heartache.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

It took me a moment to actually realize that there were balloons and writing on the airbrushed cake. Now why would you go to all the trouble of putting things on a cake then airbrush over them until you couldn't see them? Of course, if I had a nickle for every time I asked "Why?" on CW then I would be a very rich woman.

Brilliant as usual, Sharyn!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersandy

I was trying to figure out what the strange lumps were on the airbrushed cake. When I enlarged it, I finally figured out that it was balloons and "Happy Birthday" written on the cake. Why did they put them on first and airbrush them too?

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenternormajean

I'm wondering if the Disney cake could have used a "Wizard of Oz" treatment?

I'm meeelllllting! What a world, what a world....

@Sharyn - *standing slow clap* Genius.

Happy Veggie Tales Reference!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentertara

The creepy baby is going to haunt me. I'm thinking that might be a banana shaped phone.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

Veggie Tales reference -- awesome! Thanks.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

I have just recently discovered your site and I want so much to thank you for doing this. Your blog gives me a great laugh each day. Thank you.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdkzody

I have to admit, I didn't think "Carly Rae Jepson," I thought, "Raffi: Bananaphone!"

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkotochka

Sharyn~ Brilliant. Absolutely freakin' brilliant.

That is all.

AAAAUUUURRRRGGGGHHH!!!! The ONE saving grace is the Trek ref; and oh, what I wouldn't GIVE for a phaser to blast those blasted *songs* out of my head forever!!! I just HAD to keep scrolling...!
Disgusting, the lot of them! Good job!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Youtube 'bananaphone'. I bet it's supposed to be that. It was a massive novelty hit amongst my students a few years back but still occasionally crops up in conversation. It's deeply annoying like Gangnam Style or What Does The Fox Say? Sort of tech meets fruit meets Alvin and the Chipmunks...

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterUrgo

Thanks for the flashback of being stuck on the Small World ride for 30 minutes. Do you know DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIME YOU HEAR THAT SONG?!?!?! I do..... I.... do.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCakeNinja

Sharyn wins the Internets today!

Earworm, oh earworm,
Why do you torment me so?
It's a small, small world.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterZippy

Now that I've stared at the banana phone cake for a while, I think it's one of those cookie cakes that is half eaten. I'm left wondering what the other half of the design might be. Was there another banana phone on the right to match the one on the left? What was the rest of that red and green and white formation? Are we now missing a misspelled message or other deep thoughts from the wreckorator? The world may never know . . .

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJill

Wow, these are just wow...

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAdam

Whoop, that TWoO parody got it backwards. Try "Why DON'T you stick us on here unwrapped, man?"

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterClassic Steve

It's really not a geeky thing, Pametha. If I'm right, this is the song that last one's parodying.
(I took pity on you and didn't link to the music video, it's eye-searing.)

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLogicMouse

Thanks for the Veggie Tales laugh! You are the master.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMerrie

Awwww--poor little Tinkerbell!! She looks downright bummed the heck OUT! I can almost hear her thinking: "Magic Mountain, my magic a$$!" =^~.-^=

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I really do love you @Sharyn. In a completely non-stalkerish way of course.'re killin' me with earworms lady!

The Veggietales one has been stuck in my head aaaaaaaallll day!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

As I walk in the bakery this is what I see. (okay!) Tons of colored sugar are staring at me I've got sprinkles on my cake, and I aint afraid to show it(show it, show it, show it.) It's wrecky and you know it.

Also, love the wizard of Oz. <:^)

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAUnicorn

@Sharyn, awesome, again. Thank you.

@Pamtha - If you're happy and you know probably didn't get one of these cakes. And yes, I deliberately did not link to the Barney version.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

I think that last cake says "Happy Bathday". That must be a cake-worthy occasion to some wreckerators... too bad they don't have a worthy cake!

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

@Pametha - the song is "I'm sexy and I know it" by LMAFO. The video is parts "oh my" & train wreck, but funny as well :P

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

Happy 1000 pages!

Thanks for the years of laughter, and here's hoping for many more. Happy New Year!

January 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBrandy

Yay now I have achy breaky heart stuck in my head. I will just share that joy with my husband who I am sure will love you all for it lol. Oh my gosh at that last cake... eeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

January 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

I don't know if it's an earworm, but "fondant covered creepy baby" is definitely one helluva tongue-twister!

Your Pal,

January 4, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStorm
