What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Seahawks vs Broncos: The Wreck-Off

Today's a big day, my friends; we're here to celebrate the two teams going on to the Super Bowl!

So let's hear it for... [drum roll]

The Seahawks...

...and the Broncos!

[cymbal crash]

Yaaay!

Hang on, I'm being told those logos weren't quite right. Lemme try again.

The Seahawks...

...and the Broncos!

[trumpet fanfare]

No? Still not right? Ok, hang on.

Aha! NOW I've got it.

The Seahawks...

...and the Broncos!

(Huh. Think this logo is hard to reproduce?)

Woot woot! IN DA HOUSE, PLAYERS!

Ok, ok, I've had my fun. So in all seriousness, let's give a warm, dignified welcome to the Sea.. um... hawks?

...and, of course, the Broncos!

AAAAAAUUUUGGHH!!

DEMON LLAMA!!

Er, I mean... congratulations, guys! I hope you steal ALL the bases.

Thanks to Dawn D., Katie T., Travis M., Kayla S., Vanessa W., Amanda L., Astacia C., & and Rebecca W., who knows that of course you don't steal bases, in football; you dribble free throws.

What does a uterus and fallopian tubes have to do with the rodeo?

And that last Bronco one reminds me of the alien child in...is it Aliens 4?

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTrista

Um...why do those first heart cakes say "Goku"? Are they supposed to be DBZ cakes? I'm just Saiyin.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAshley P

I live in Philadelphia and have a hard time telling the Eagle from the Seahawk (of course, I'm not an Eagles fan, so...could have somethign to do with it). Also? Emperor's New Groove FTW!!!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterErin

As a Broncos fan, I have never laughed harder than at Demon Llamas. I may need that it in a shirt.

*Ahem*

Sung to "Rawhide"

Keep bowlin', bowlin', bowlin'
That Sea Hawk's no go, man
Broncos don't look so, I deride
Blue bird's not of a feather
We'll use the pig for leather
Any fan who saw those cakes just cried.
I think the bird's missin'
Demon llama dissin'
Super Bowl wrecks make me quite snide!

DEMON LLAMA made me laugh right out loud.

DEMON LLAMA!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRoy

FYI.... "Sea Hawks" is actually ONE WORD. Their name is the Seahawks.

[Editor's note- Bwoops. All fixed. -john]

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe 12th Man

Bahaha@sharyn and haiku joy :D as someone who is ignorant of footbal, even I can say WTF to those cakes

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

First and vastly most important, yay for the Arkansas Razorbacks CCC! I am even going to withhold my customary ptooie for this one.

Now, for that Eagles cake with the updside down logo--In some wrecks, there may be legitimate reasons such as literacy or translation issues. But any sighted person can see that logo is upside down, and it is unlikely (though not impossible, I suppose) an unsighted person would be a professional cake decorator. And for a 9-year-old too. That's just laziness. For shame wreckerator, for shame.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

Of course you do steal bases; and then you say to the other team: "All your base are belong to us"

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNight Owl

Um... Coming from a percussionist of eight years, it's "cymbal crash", not "symbol crash"... Unless, of course, you were referring to that horriffic collision that occurred between the ampersand and the question mark the other day.

[Editor's note- Jen was going for a play on words. -john]

You know, those heart shapes actually kinda work for the Jayhawks. I recognized the mascot immediately. (Growing up half my youth in Wichita helped recognition a lot, too!)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEclipse

DEMON LLAMA made me laugh out loud too -- at work. Now my coworkers think I've finally lost it.

Bwah Haiku Joy!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

I super appreciate the "Emporer's New Groove" reference. Solid.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKelsie

That first cake looks like a fledgling not quite ready to be sent out into the world yet, and not a little worried about it. So his mom's encouraging him--"Go Kill, Mervin! You can do it!" "Um...yeah, okay."

And I always thought Kuzco looked better as a llama than as a human. Who's with me?

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

I have woken in a cold sweat from dreams in which The Demon Horse is chasing me while I race to catch my plane. The demon horse is a HUGE statue outside Denver's airport, of a rearing white horse with EVIL, Malicious glowing red eyes. Obviously the demon Llama is a cousin of his. Ill probably have bad dreams about them both now. So,
Thanks for that CW.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPatbeth

Demon llama looks like it's supposed to be a cross of our "Welcome to Denver" demon horse sculpture with the Broncos logo. Result? A sad cookie!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterScaperMama

As a Ravens fan, the third cake made me want to cry, especially the coiled yellow spring. Then I saw the DEMON LLAMA cake and I couldn't stop laughing. I almost want to ask a baker to make one of those!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Black Dog

That Broncos image is not a bad depiction of the demon horse that greets visitors going in and out of our airport. It's a little creepy during the day, and downright infernal at night.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjohn

@Ahsley P: The cake says "Go KU". As in Kansas University. The cake is a Jayhawk.

http://teachers.d11.org/teachers/sprucrm/AnalyticsReports/jayhawk.jpg

My brother was a senior there when they won the national championship in 1988. Rock chalk Jayhawks!

At first I thought the second cake was supposed to be some kind of Texas Longhorn. But the red white and blue threw me off.

The fourth cake is for the Arkansas Razorbacks, affectionately called The Hogs. I have no idea what the cake above it is supposed to represent.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

As a very recent member of the hysterectomy club I would love to have some "uterus" cupcakes. Hahahahahaha. I'm also a Ravens fan and that's the worst Ravens logo "cake (?)" I've ever seen. If I didn't live in Baltimore I would have never guessed what the heck that was even supposed to be. For those of you who have no ides, the Ravens cake is the 3rd one.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

Go Seahawks!!!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

So, um… to anyone who felt the need to "correct" this post:
Really? Have you even seen this blog before?

*sigh*

I'm gonna go laugh at the Demon Llama again.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

I'm generally not a sports fan but even I have caught the 12th man fever! Seriously, there is not a Skittle to be found in any store in the area! (Probably only @The 12th Man will get that)
And not to urge an Epcot or anything...but it is SEAHAWKS (all one word)

@Sharyn ~ It's a good thing I less than 3 you for so many other reasons because come Sunday, we're bitter rivals, my friend!

@Haiku Joy ~ Today, you aPEEL to my inner geek. Yeah, I know it sucks but it's all I got. ;-)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

@TLC: You're close: #2 is the Houston Texans logo.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJenni

@ TLC, lol. Ok. Thanks for the clarification. With the spacing, all I saw was "Goku" and since my kid brother was a *huge* DBZ fan, I was trying to wrap my brain around how a DBZ cake got in the mix. (Doesn't make it any less hilarious, though.)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAshley P

The top cake is the University of Kansas jayhawk, hence the KU written on it. Just passing that along.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMadison

Wow, thanks to the posters who pointed out that #3 is supposed to be the Ravens mascot. Yikes!! I looks like a hawk giving the stink eye, with yellow poo on its head.

Jen, I'm still laughing at DEMON LLAMA!! Also, kudos to those of you who pointed out the resemblence to the scary bronco statue at DIA.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

You know, I've been lurking around since 2010 or so... and I still haven't learned that I can't have anything in my mouth when I read this. Now I'm off to watch Emperor's New Groove after I clean my keyboard, again.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

I see symbol crashes every time I sit down to grade. New this week: the student who oriented her paper in landscape before printing and submitting it.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Ok, I had never heard of the "giant scary blue horse" at the Denver Airport, so naturally I had to Google it. Wow....just wow. It's incredibly anatomically correct and killed its creator. No wonder people call it a devil horse! http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/02/arts/design/02hors.html?_r=0

And the "Happy Birthday Wyatt" cake confirms my suspicions that some cake decorators in the public sector have English as a second language. Who else could put the damn logo upside-down?

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChenaya

What? No comments on the green brown poo pile next to the Seadog on the next to last cake? Looks like something my Jack Russell mix would do after a bout with a catfish carcass(don't ask, suffice to say we live in the country and cat fish ALOT!!)......

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWildDuck

The Seahawk dog is weirdly cute. I went to the grocery store and it was orange and blue everywhere. I think I went blind for a few minutes. I just wonder if I'll get a free donut if the demonic horse team wins. Or maybe for this big win a pie since they did the donut thing for regular games.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

GOKU on the first one is Go KU (University of Kansas). They are Jayhawks - granted they usually look a bit better than this.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarri

Oops, I realized the uterus-emblazoned treats are cookies, not cupcakes.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermelanie sparkles

Hee Hee. So.Much.Awesome! I love the Demon Llama, however way too scary to eat! Also loving the Bichon puppy next to his "accident" although I'm not sure what that has to do with a Seahawk? W.T....???

I don't know why a Raven needs yellow turd headphones, but maybe that's a Baltimore thing. ?!?

I do think the Rodeo cookies are appropriate. There are a lot of horned sperm that gather at rodeos.... I'm just sayin'...

Best Super Bowl year ever! I can't wait to see who next year's teams are - so we can see more wrecky logos. YAY Team!!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I thought the Uteri played for Utah...

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Let's not diss Blucifer -- he's already killed once.

Jodee: May the best team (mine) win! I promise, whatever the result, I will raise a pot-free brownie in your honor on game day.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

@Haiku Joy ~ Back when I was in school I had to do a paper of a certain length. Learning how to make the font ginormous and the extra spacing between the lines wasn't as easy as a simple click of the mouse. Landscape would have made the job a lot easier!

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

DEMON LLAMA!!! I'm still laughing. And my boss' boss is in town, just down the hall... Oh boy.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarol

You guys are the best at giving me a great, truly out loud laugh- today you had me at "symbol crash"! THANK YOU

Welcome to the best site "evah", N. Snare.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterms anthrope

That last one is Death's Llama. That whole thing about 'Death riding a pale horse' is a mistranslation. It's really a Pale Llama. Honest.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterUldihaa

I think the maker of the rodeo uterus cake is a fan of Georgia O'Keefe. Too bad they don't possess her artistic skills.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

(Huh. Think this logo is hard to reproduce?)

Ack! The puns. They kill. ;-)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBella

@Sharyn ~ You just gave me the perfect idea for our party snacks! hehe

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

That demon llama is truly terrifying. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBroncosFan

I've to give a shout-out for the second picture (the big cookie) and say, woohoo Texans! Even if they did bite the big one this year... >.< :)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThePearLady

@Haiku Joy - A creative student should not be penalized for her originality. What kind of world would this be if everyone printed their papers in portrait format? Oh, never mind...

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

#5: That's a wreck that took some real skill.

#6: Please welcome the FIGHTIN' FALLOPIANS! (If you imagine Kermit the Frog doing the arm wave, it's even better)

January 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWill

@Uldihaa - Bwahahaahahhahah! My hubby loves that song! I'll have to show him the post (& your comment!)

@Haiku Joy - most erudite and, well, ok, not really erudite but WAY COOL!!! :-) And I feel your pain on grading/word count/spacing issues. My papers were lab reports, which students took to mean 'spelling and proper English usage not required so long as you throw in the proper science lingo...' Yay.

@SuBee - Giggle-snort!

@Everyone else - careful, now - I think we're on the verge of a Epcot with so many GOKU aka GO Kansas U. comments and whatnot... Good thing it didn't say GOKA, cuz then I would have wondered if that photo was taken at my biochem prof's B-day party. (Hey there, Dr. Goka! If you read this, you're one of the *coolest* profs I ever had!!!! :-)
