What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Watch Your Back, Frosty

The rest of the story is overrated. These seasonal snippets will do.

In a twist of festive irony, Santa later shot his own eye out.

Naturally, all Ralph Lauren cookie covers had to undergo a little "retouching."

Donner blamed Dasher, and Dasher blamed Vixen, but one thing was certain: they would never use the phrase "flipping his lid" again without wincing.

Their escape depended on luck, daring, and the fact that their snowy jailors had no arms.

To be fair, the woman never specified which part of the word to replace with an X.

So he bided his time, knowing someday, somehow, that smug self-satisfied snowman would pay.

Thanks to Kelly W., Matthew Z., Kimberly & Courtney, Joey T., Susan H., & Ann H. for showing us the Far Side of Christmas.

The ability to make frosting ANGRY is an amazing talent, really. If only it was deliberate.

That last one was hysterical!! Merry Christmax!

ZOMG! I want that last picture as a Christmas card. Beyond epic. My stomach hurts from laughing.

Looks like that Santa is a couple cupcakes short of a full hat!

I'm not a big fan of ACS, but the first caption rocks.

Hahahahaha!! Excellent captions!!

Christmax already?
It was just Christmax last year!
Or was that Christmaz . . .

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Merry Christ to the Max?

Christmax--that holiday time of the year when you max out your credit cards.

Cake #2: Ginger was glad she'd paid Weight Watchers all that dough to help her get rid of her muffin top.

That fourth one doesn't look very wreckish. If there was more of it, I'd say it was a Sweet.

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered Commentershaeyeradrache

LOL...That last caption was perfect! Thanks for the chuckle!

Merry Christmax!

Were you talking about the snowman cupcakes with smooshed heads and flotsam hats or the cube cake with Christmas balls and plastic Santas? Cause I have seen both better and worse cakes than those.

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKelticat

Maybe they were thinking of the Grinch's dog Max?

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMona

That 4th one... are the sides and top of the cake even frosted? Or did they just airbrush some food color onto a pink cake?

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered Commentersnapdragon

Why is everyone being so negative? Bakers are probably run off their feet right before Christmas more than at any other time of year.

I have to complain: Santa's reindeer was named "Donder" not "Donner" as you mistyped...

Oh, I get it! A cake wreck within a cake wreck within a Cake Wreck.

On Dasher, on Dancer,
On Prancer, on Vixen,
On Comet, on Cupid,
On Donder, on Blitzen,

Carry on.

[Editor's note- Well technically, if we're being true to the original, it would be Dunder. However, most people say Donner nowadays so I think we'll leave it alone. Don't judge us too harshly. -john]

#4 looks to me like someone frosted a chunk of spam. Maybe that is why the Santas are trying so hard to escape.

How REALLY sad is it that once I saw the fourth photo, I said "That's a [West Coast grocery chain] cake - I recognize those snowmen and the tumbling Santas." Nearly 1/4 of the holiday cakes at our local one have those tumbling Santas ... I'm waiting to see some cartwheeling down a layered cake [think stairs]. Bakery worker told me she dislikes them, but Mgmt keeps pushing them onto the cakes so people know it's for the holidays. [I know, the photo's about the melting snowmen, but I had to comment on those tumbling Santas ... ]

I really like the little snowman jailors. or prisoners. Whatever they were. Merry Christmax everyone! (and Happy Hannuxa).

"As sure as there's an 'X' in 'Christmas,' you can be sure those are Tiny Tim chestnuts roasting!"

"Tiny Tims roast hot! Like a chestnut ought! ...Now with XK-29 added for people who can't roast after every meal."

So Merry Christmax! lol

The Ralph Lauren CCC made me giggle/snort but the last one made me burst out laughing!! That does need to be a card!

The hats on the snowmen (#4) are too cute! However, as a Calvin & Hobbes fan, I know they’re mutants waiting to attack when their arms regenerate.

December 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

Ahh the joys of Christmax. And on a CCC no less..sneaky wreckerators trying to pass that off as cake. The poo tree stump should be a dead giveaway to the evil that awaits those who dare to eat it.

Oh my goodness--that last one was brilliant, Jen. You get a slow clap for that one! :)

My copy of Wreck the Halls came today, and I'm trying to take it a few pages at a time to make it last longer. In thanks to Jen and John, I've been donating through the Cakewrecks link to FirstGiving, and I notice we're not really very close to the goals for this year. Please, take a moment to find the donation link and give a few dollars. Jen is actually pretty darn close to raising 100K on the FirstGiving site. Think how proud she'd be if we put her over the top. Get clicking!

(Mary Connealy) The ability to make frosting ANGRY is an amazing talent, really. -- Totally agree!

I've gotta say, except for his hat, the Santa CCC was actually pretty good. *ducks and opens my umbrella from all the flying sprinkles, flotsam and plastic*

Thanks Jen and John for another outstanding post!

Merry Christmax, Everyone! Bwahaha.

Lol on that last one. I'm always going to bring my camera with me grocery shopping anymore,...
just in case I happen to spot out a angry, misspelled cake in the baker's case!
