What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

- Jen

A big thanks to Layne L., who never knew she had it in her.

Should have shaped the balloons so that they look like rabbits or ducks depending on the angle.

Alternately, it's a multi-purpose cake for some "lucky" fella who got Maury tickets for his birthday.

BWAHAHAHAH...HAHAHA..hahahaha... ;D

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

My husband and I were looking through these together and he read it out loud as "OMG it's your BABY"

So much funnier.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAbigail @ Skywaitress

I can't figure out if the cake says: "OMG It's your Baby" or "OMG It's your Bday".

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

The baker seemed surprised by the results of that paternity test.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarnie

the colors??? really???
(I'm trying not to focus on the symmetrically stacked, um, objects in the top corners. I'm seeing too many unsavory things in those corners.)

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

OMG, what are those pink and black things on the side? Balloons?

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

EIGHT scorched brown or obscene pink contestants for "OMG it's YOUR baby"? Mind freeze ....

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRev W

OMG…with those little you-know-what’s flowing by, I think this is the world’s first anticipatory pregnancy cake….!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermel

Marnie for the win!

I'm STILL not sure what I think that cake says.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJules

What a way to break the news...

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVictoria

ok I totally read that as Baby also but then looked even closer and realized it said B-day... oh man, that is just awful.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSara

I'm going for "OMG It's your baby" and those are the multi-colored sperm-cicles at the top of the cake... at least that's what I got at first glance. I'm afraid to look again. Please don't make me!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMary Anne

Well, what a surprise! I read it as Baby until I read the commentators who mentioned b'days and I went back to double-check. Then I got distracted by the sand around the edges.
Let's just eat cake (although I have chocolate banana bread pudding in the oven right this instant.)

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterdrgns4vr

Whether this says "OMG it's your bday" or "OMG its your baby" someone is shocked by a birth! to funny!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRystall

So I read it first as "Its your BDay" (lost apostrophe aside)... I think that's what it's supposed to be anyway.

But then I saw the "its your Baby" comment and I can't look at it the same anymore. Haha!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterUmmeiko

Can't figure out if it's balloons or triumphant sperm that have climbed to the cake top!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLee Stadler

See now, I think Naomi wins--that's because I'm old enough to know who Maury is.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCeeCee

And they forgot the apostrophe in it's -- UGH1! Unless of course they are naming the baby Its, then no apostrophe needed.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered Commentergabsmom

That looks like a fancy crossed T and "its" to me (not it's), which makes it even wreckier.

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStell

oh, thank goodness! I still don't see Bday but I'm very, very willing to say that's what it says. *whew*

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

I first read this as "Baby" and then I saw all the comments saying it was "Bday" (which, if you're the kind of person who writes "OMG" is certainly possible) but despite several close looks, I'm just not seeing it. But WHATEVER it is, I do have a burning question: why all the black? Is the day (whatever it's meant to be announcing) really THAT horrible? Or is there a goth chick in the picture and the bakery was following instructions?

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

OMG! It's $24.97!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEvelina

Totally thought those were sperm and eggs on the sides, going with the baby theme!

September 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnnie

Ok, I see the "bday" now... Lame. I like, "Omg its your baby" much better!

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

This is no help at all! Trying to see "Bday" and now it looks like Bebaj or Beboy. OMG its your Beboy? I'm going back to Baby where it's' safe.

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRev W

OK, bday wins but I saw Baby until the comments!

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKaren.Valinda

I think the confusion was intentional. I'm sure the recipient appreciated the humor -- once he was revived, that is. The EMTs who were called when he hit the floor might even have scored some cake. What's not to like?

Still, it's a tad cruel for a guy's 16th birthday...

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

Can we get a full post instead of a one-pic post? One-pic posts are fine from time to time, but three days in row? I know, I know ... it's free entertainment, but still. And now back to your regularly scheduled snark.

[Editor's note- Tuesday- long post and extra Data post. Wednesday- two short posts. Thursday- Tour post and short post. Friday long post. We're doing our best over here. -john]

Did I see this cake on Jerry Springer?

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmy'sMom

I have to thank the other comments for clueing me in to the fact that it says B-day. I was really trying to figure out who would order a cake to show the results of a paternity test...excep maybet Maury. I'm sure that show orders a lot of cakes like this, Now I really want to see one that says "Sorry, you are not the baby daddy", but I'm twisted like that.

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRixie

Oh… I first thought it said "It's your body." Then I thought it was supposed to be "It's your baby."

Now that I know it's supposed to be "It's your Bday," it makes SOOOO much more sense. ;-)

Creepy looking cake even without the wording.

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDB

OMG really?? I never knew ;)

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMINDY1

Wow, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who say "Its your Baby." I looked at the cake several times. I just now saw "Its your Bday." Maybe it's both a birthday and a baby announcement. Surprise, daddy-o!

Re: perfume cakes, good job that last one was not for "AXE"

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterShirley Fowley

"OMG Its Your Baby!"

Somebody call Maury!

September 9, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFettFan84

I assumed it was OMG It's your BABY when I saw it and sent it in. :P

September 11, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLayne

oh wow........ Ha. Ha. Ha.

Bun's in the oven,
