What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

- Jen

Happy Falker Satherhood!

Ashley J. had two male coworkers each expecting a child, so the office decided to get them a cake. They wanted it to say, "Happy Fatherhood Shawn and Glenn".

Instead, they got this:

Like you, I'm sure, Ashley & the gang were just dying to know what the decorator thought he or she was writing, exactly. So, they decided to go find out. Yep, that's right: They grabbed a video camera (did I mention they work at the Fox television animation studio?) and strolled down the street to pay a little visit to the bakery in question.

Here's what happened next (the best bits are in the first 2 minutes):

"It's like a word journey" - hilarious. Oh, and Ashley writes "Please forgive the Tickle-Me-Elmo laughter coming from behind the camera...that's me."

Ashley, I think it's safe to say we all forgive you. It's just too bad the manager didn't have as much of a sense of humor as you guys did; after all, I think you and Rebner were extremely pleasant about it, all things considered. :)

I'm so grateful for this video. It seems I've been mispronouncing Falker satherhood all these years.
Wouldn't it be great to have a video explanation (or lack thereof) for every wreck?

I can dream, can't I?

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

I was looking at Father's Day cards at Target yesterday, and on one of them was printed "Fatherhood" in big letters. Of course, my mind read it "Falker Satherhood." Thanks for revisiting this classic, and for adding that term to my lexicon.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Plop a dragon on there and just write Happy Falcor Satherhood.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTheCreepyTribble

It. will. never. get. old. Never.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandy

This cake is legendary here. Thanks for the added explanation! And I'm with @SuBee....if only we knew, as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story" for so many of these creations....

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

Sorry to be the wet blanket, but this just seemed staged and mean. Surely, the joke was planned ahead of time. These folks were either playing a prank or got punked by someone in the office. "The rest of the story" may be that the manager came down on a perfectly agreeable decorator who followed instructions to the letter, literally.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie

I was hoping to see the interview with the decorator . . . Thanks for a.m. cheer.

That manager wouldn't even make eye contact, she didn't apologize, she didn't laugh. She has zero sense of humor.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPenni

That one really doesn't get old. I've revisited it several times in the past. I adore the first counter guy - he seems very reasonable with a sense of humor. Which is really what this is all about! That and that your falkersatherhood be happy.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMalia

It's my oldest son's birthday today and this is a perfect post for it. We giggle at that video EVERY TIME.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

But they spelled "congratulations" correctly, so yay?

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Obviously what we have here is a baker with a burning desire to have her handiwork appear on the pages of Cake Wrecks!

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSara

Such a classic! I wonder of the wreckerator got a raise or bonus because s/he made the bakery so infamous!

The manager's giggle is the best of all.

Did they go back??? Is there a part 2??

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJeffssus

Are we running out of wrecks lately or just feeling nostalgic? A number of yesterday's guitars looked familiar too.

[Editor's note- Nope. We have 13,063 wrecks that have not been posted. However, we always run a replay on Wednesdays since most of our readers are fairly new. Plus, it gives Jen a break. As to the guitar post, I honestly don't know if any of those have been posted but we have so many guitar wrecks that some are bound to look the same. Anyway, have an awesome day. john (thoJ)]

Did we ever have an update of them meeting this amazing speller?

Thank you for this "journey" back in time.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

I'm just so impressed that "Congratulations" was spelled correctly!!

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjoylovefun

Is it just me, or did I read all of this before?

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

Sometimes I wish we had thought to copyright "FalkerSatherhood", but then it is pretty rewarding to have had the world take it and run. Rebner is still thrilled with his pseudo-celebrity from this :)

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

One of my favorite posts! I gave my brother a card last year for Father's Day and actually crossed that part out and wrote in Falker Satherhood. Then I showed him this post. Now it's tradition.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

I didn't realize that EVERY Wednesday is an old post. Huh.

This is awesome. What other reaction would there be but to laugh.
"Did you bring a receipt?" Really puhlease!

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSam

idk how i feel about this...sure it is as a cake decorator a full time one who loves what im doing....i dunno how she screwed that up completely....and as cute as it is coming back that was getting her in trouble but in fairness she had it coming...but they are going through proper procedures in helping them get a refund...cuz we wanna make customers happy...and if it was meant as a joke he should've stopped after a bit and left but because he stayed that made the employee obligated to tell someone from higher up...he should've came back in the morning and talked to i have terrible ocd when it comes to my work i look over and over again to make sure everything looks the best i can get it and if its spelled do you mess that

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentertryforceofcurage

First, the video is priceless as is the cake. Second, I spent over 15 years in retail, over half in management. That "manager" is a business killer. She did nothing right. Very surly; shouldn't be in the people business. Thanks for the was great.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKenP

Haha! Classic!

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNerfbomb

Somehow I find it very comforting that you have over 13,000 unpublished cake wrecks.

June 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLJ

Mother Falker Sotherhood is displeased.

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChris

Oh my goodness how funny! Now that's one helluva mistake. Thanks for the giggle and big congrats to Shawn and Glenn! :)

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShayne

Lmao! Funniest thing I have seen today.

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

But the new people aren't going to know it's a repeat, and the rest of us are going to feel, well, how do I say this... just a tiny bit... let down? Seeing same old same old... stale cakes? (Sorry, just sayin'... )

[Editor's note- Sorry about that. I know it's disappointing and we hate to let you down. Hopefully, the other posts can make up for it. Have a fantastic day. john (thoJ)]

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBea

I don't feel let down by "replay Wednesday". I see it as a chance to fondly remember wrecks from the past and feel a little nostalgic.
(Or was that "nostalgically fondle wrecks and feel up the past"? Now I'm confused...) ^^

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMafdet

The classic Cake Wrecks never get old...and this is definitely a classic.

Meanwhile in Bizarro-land...
CUSTOMER: I'd like to make a complaint!
BAKER: I'm sorry. What seems to be the problem?
CUSTOMER: The cake I picked up last night was supposed to read
"Happy Falker Satherhood" I mean, how hard is that???
Its not brain surgery!
BAKER: okay, well what was the problem??
CUSTOMER: when I got it home I noticed it said "Happy Father's day!" Now what in the world am I supposed
to do with that?!?! My wife was in tears! Our Falker Salther Day was absolutely ruined!!
BAKER: I am so sorry! We will make it right! I'd be glad to offer you a free zombie barbie cake, a misshapen guitar cake or how about a birthing cake?? Those are Awesome!

June 12, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCamille

The cake itself is funny. The video, however, didn't make me laugh. If he just wanted to meet the decorator and she wasn't there then why go all over the store. Additionally the man in the video thought he was a lot funnier than he is. He was just too self satisfied. I'm glad this video gave people a bit of a laugh but I wanted to share my thoughts, too.

June 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDani

The guy in front of the camera is nothing more than a tattle telling jerk. He seems to get off on ratting the decorator out. There was nothing funny about the childish reporting that set out to embarass the gal that decorated the cake

Lurking in those 13,000 unused submissions is one of 3 carrots holding hands/feet on a cookie which is inscribed with "I'm Carrots for You!" Anytime I take a hiatus from CW because I'm grading or moving or a stranded in a compromised country, I worry that I will miss that glorious cookie's debut of glorious glory! So far my worries have been in vain.

O, Appendaged Carrots! Your day will come when your cheerful declaration of a triple menage-a-trifecta shall be made known to the world and Google!

August 14, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

What an eye-candy (the bakery manager, if course)

August 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMonia

It's taken years but I think I know what this cake is for now! I had occasion to use the Google translate function on Facebook and found out my Chinese friend was celebrating... well this:

"~ Celebrating father's day first anniversary Wan led car ~ happy birthday ~ "

I think a Happy Falkersatherhood would be perfect for that celebration.

This remains my favorite cake wreck. Falkersatherhood is so much fun to say.

October 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTerri

One question: If it was a Father's Day cake, then why were there EASTER signs everywhere? I mean, even people of the Eastern Orthodox faith don't celebrate it THAT late. More problems with that store than just a dotty decorator.

June 21, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPenni

I love this post - no matter how many times I watch it - but still ... there's this nagging worry about what happened to the little old lady who apparently created this beauty. Somehow It looks as if the management was not quite able to appreciate the genius of her creativity.

June 21, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSandra

Penni, it wasn't for Father's Day, it was a dad baby shower cake, or something along those lines. Two guys at the business were going to be new dads around the same time so the co-workers had a joint cake made.

On a side note, maybe the manager had gone through some crap that day and just didn't have any more humor left.

I thought it was priceless!
