What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

I dub thee... LADY PIG.

Or... Bob.

Yeah, I like Bob.

Thanks to Katya A. for keeping it ladylike. And also for the excuse to post that picture of Miss Piggy. ("Hiiiii-YAH!!")

BAAHAHA!! Oh man smoothie is not supposed to go in the lungs! *cough, gasp, wheeze* I should really learn to put down all beverages when loading this page.

"We're not calling it Bob." :D

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterPing

Wow. Miss Piggy should sue for defamation. Srsly.

Now... The real question: What was is SUPPOSED to be???

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharna

Darth Maryn tells me that the cake is a piggy wiggy for me!

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRobynR

Mais oui, Miss Piggy,
we can tell how old you are
by counting age spots.

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

I get the "bug eyes", but who put ears on a bug? Or a pig nose, for that matter?

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJohn Bryson

Yeah, definitely "Bob". "Bugsy" needs a pink face and a blond wig to look like Miss P.
But other than THAT:
"Please, Sir: can I have some more??"
(Meaning: Is that IT?? Bakers on STRIKE or sumthin, heah?)

Ah, the only member of the genus Sus to also belong to the Coccinellidae family. It mostly -- outside of the kind of people who eat fugu -- avoids being made into sandwiches through its warning coloration and the secretion of alkaloid toxins.

It avoids being turned into Kermit's lunch* through song, dance, and the timely application of karate chops.

I think we've found a great new creature on which the next SyFy monster schlock movie can be based! PIGBUG!!

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

The plastic butterfly is a nice touch.

@Jodi - Great idea!!

@Jodi and Haiku joy bwahahaha :D what on earth WAS that supposed to be?!?!?!

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

This was decorated by two different people, right? Whoever made the beautifully smooth, shiny, red body with the perfectly circular black spots could not have finished with that brown pig-face. IT HAS EYELASHES!

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

Silly John Bryson, anyone could tell those "ears" are slender antennae ;-). What I am curious about is why does it have meatballs for legs?

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

@Jodi -- Don't you mean Pigbugnado? ;)

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Your blog never fails to make me laugh. Thanks for another good one!

They appear to have never seen an actual sow bug. I'd love to see their rendition of it's relatives, pill bug and potato bug. Hold the sour cream.

We'll name it later!

OMG Laughing so hard! I would totally buy this cake because it's so awesome in it's weckiness LOL

Lady Pid, Lady Pig,
Does whatever a Lady Pig does.
Can she fly away home?
No she can't, she's a pig.
Look out! She is a Lady Pig!

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteretselec

This could possibly be one of the strange and unknown beings that Piggy, Linc and crew found while out and about on an episode of...Pigs in SPAAAAAAAAACE LOL

Still quite scary though, either way

So, here's me, innocently scrolling through my mostest-favoritist weblog ever, and what do I see...

Ladybug on a daisy... pretty....

Miss Piggy, looking angry ... hmmm...

Thanks, Jen!

Because it's late in the day AND because I was drinking water rather than coffee, I felt my keyboard was safe. Even so, I didn't put the bottle to my lips until I was approaching the end of the comments. Thanks to etselec I learned a valuable lesson.
I will never again look at this site with a beverage anywhere near me.

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSabs

Is this creature in any way related to the Flutterturd?

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

Wow well at least the world had something good and happy and safe to think about for a whole 24 hours after the birth of a random we weep in terror...oy vey

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! A lot of good comments today, but I think BADKarma's got it FTW. :-) Definitely related to the FlutterTurd. The face/head is very turdy & there is a set of butterfly wings on the back - vestigial, obviously. Yes, I think Jen may need to rethink her formula; I think it's LadyBug + Miss Piggy + FlutterTurd! :-)

Not to mention it looks like it's caught the mumps, too! Good grief it's SO LUMPY! Why they didn't just smooth the icing on instead of using a *large* SHELL tip?! No pride in one's work these days at all. Then again, those poor wreckerators don't get paid much either, do they? Guess I can't blame 'em... ;-)

When pigs fl. . . never mind.

July 24, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

Lol. I will never look at lady bugs in quite the same way now. My goodness what a scary looking wreck. Guess it could have been worse. But how I am not sure yet lol.

July 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Your pastries are unique. They are a work of art in their own form. We have had cakes etc. like these as well and remember they some times are a flop to you, but they also make one heck of a conversation piece when you have the friends and family over. Keep it up!

July 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBill Chapit

That's the craziest "lucky" cake mashup I've ever seen. In Germany and some other parts of Europe or England having some combination of a lady bug, clover, pig or chimney sweep is super lucky. But this cake... yeesh.

July 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKatja

Oh, c'mon, PEOPLE! I read the comments twice. Seriously- no one said "Kermit Flail?"

July 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

KERMIT: (Adjusting his tie) Piggy!! Are you ready to go to the theater?
PIGGY: (Inside dressing room) Oh, no Kermie, not yet...
KERMIT: Come on Piggy, we need to go. (Looks at watch) The show starts in 10 minutes-- we're going to be late.
PIGGY: I don't know Kermie, I'm not feeling well...
KERMIT: Oh Piggy! You've been looking forward to this date all week! (Walks over to dressing room door) Come on out or I'm coming in after you.
KERMIT: (Opens door) AAAAAAAGHHH!!!!!!

July 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAndie

@ Andie - you forgot {Kermit FFFLLLAAAAIIIILLLL} at the end!

@ Barbara Anne - that do ya?! :-)

Just to clarify - this picture was shot in the display window of an upscale Russian supermarket on the outskirts of Moscow. This creature was labeled "holiday cake".

There have been many misconceptions about Russians. I have heard people seriously ask whether we have bears wandering the streets of our cities, I have had people try to explain to me how to change the channels with a remote, I have been warned not to be afraid of the blow drier... But I promise you, in all our cultural references, there is not a single holiday that this cake is suited for. Someone must have been on some serious drugs, dealing with a horrific case of muppet fever )))

And it was not even Year of the Pig!

July 28, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKatya A.
