What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

...............that heart...........breaks my heart

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterA Mystery

Methinks the fail bakers started imbibing early for new years....

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

What, you mean pus green, liver pink and fecal brown aren't good colors for a heart? They're all anatomical, after all.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCybrczch

In each case the second cake was made by a decorator who was simply more madcap and freewheeling.
Or maybe simply more simple...

Despite its obvious technical goodness, "Aspiration" puts me in mind of those homegrown super-balls made of rubber bands. Maybe that's just the angle of the shot, though.

The "Swing" cake was already a Wreck color and style-wise. "Miss" just adds some structural and proportion failure to make the sense of Wreckage complete. Seriously: Grape bubble-gum purple bows plus Leopard print plus Zebra print? Even Elton John in the Seventies might have thought twice before going that far.

How old was the person turning for the "reality" cake? I read that as "1 [snail]" Also, friends don't let friends decorate cakes with silly string.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNaomi

That heart is for someone who adores camouflage.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLisa Maliga

What is that bird doing in the middle of the funky poo heart?

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkjo

I can't believe somebody put reality out as a finished cake. Why not level the layers at least.
I don't think wreckage and woes is bad enough for cake wrecks but it does look like something from a cake decorating class.

I am fairly certain that "heart" is something the cat hawked up... As such the cat should be awarded a vet visit (that can't be normal!) and some inspiring news coverage of his renaming - PiCatso.

You know, if the second cake hadn't been crooked, I would prefer it to the "expectation".

That heart cake is just hideous. I can only assume that the person making it was color blind or in a very dark room while decorating.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterklb

Sorry, but with the possible exception of the ruffles & bows cake, those cakes were screaming to be wreckified.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjuice

Sure hope the heart cake recipients like camo.
Ah, suppose these could be worse - at least they aren't CCCs!

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjuice

I was trying to imagine the wreck version of all these inspiration cakes.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBea

You should be able to see me as I look at the cake created from the pretty inspiration ones... I'm like cringing, afraid to look but do anyhow. Oh that heart makes mine ache.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDiana, so close!

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

Don't you mean "Flunkification"? :-P

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterClassic Steve

The Expectation cake--wow, I wasn't aware that my c. 1989 pants got made into a cake.

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterI Love the '80s

Once again, I'm terrified about ordering the cake for the baby shower. O.O

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

You mean "Aspiration" wasn't a wreck to begin with?

December 29, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnna Nimous

I thought for sure Aspiration was the wreck. Then I scrolled down to the hideous heart. Gak! Oh, and welcome back, mel. We've missed you.

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

Wow.. that heart is very disturbing lmao. Sheesh. I do love the rainbow roses one too bad that wasn't what they got. If I had gotten that heart I would say I would never eat cake again. I would say it and not mean it lol. Unless I got another heart cake. Sheesh.

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

The first cake looks like half of my older sister's stuff from when we were little and that "Aspiration" cake looks like a candle holder I made in my Kintergardan art class. The attempted reproductions look like the stuff the rest of the class made.

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTifa

The "Aspiration" cake is pretty eye-burning, so I don't blame the wreckerator for wanting to tone it down a bit. But why a heart? The original cake isn't even vaguely heart-shaped!

Love the first cake--it has such an Eighties vibe. But why, oh why, did the wrecker feel the need to ADD stuff? Is that a 16 on top?

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRoxy Random

Is it driving anyone else nuts the booties on the "ruffles and bows" cake appear to be mislaid? The left is on the right and the right is on the left!

Oh, and I like to think the first cake ("expectation") is for an awesome Saved By The Bell theme party, to which I would wear a scrunchie-secured side-ponytail and an "I <3 Zack Morris" sweatshirt. And legwarmers... lots of neon legwarmers.

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbribv

Be still my camo heart....

I would have burst into tears upon seeing the first one though. I *love* the expectation - very late 80's early 90's and great for a crazy 80's party. But what the baker came up with....

December 30, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIsabella

Don't wreck my heart, my achey cakey heart...

December 31, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSmelly Elly

Shit, I wish I could "fail" that well. These fails are still better than what most people could do. Hell, they not even fail enough that you couldn't charge money for them.
