What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Some of my favorite new submissions this week.

They say she studied her head off for that diploma:

Which is an excellent segue for...

Brains, caps, heads - oh, yeah. It's allll comin' together.

John couldn't stop snort-giggling over this one. I think it has something to do with the hand placement:

Now I want to order a microphone cake (yes, that's supposed to be a microphone), walk into a random stranger's party, say something cryptic, like "That's why Hufflepuffs ALWAYS LOSE THEIR SOCKS", and then drop it. (The cake, not the party.)

Because "Messy Mic Drop Ruins Party" would be an awesome headline.

And finally, I believe this wedding baker was trying for something like this:

But instead....

Pro Tip: If your floral design starts to look like an angry vagina, maaaaybe re-think the Big O topper.

Thanks to Alison A., Chelsea M., Sahana S., & Vanessa, who'd like to point out that could also be a giant zero. (See? These things practically write themselves.)

You out did yourself today, Jen. Must be extra mojo from having Lilly back home. :-)

I don't think the unfortunate color choice helps the last one. On a bright side, at least it isn't pink....

And my own favorite snort-giggle for the day: Big-O topper! Of course when someone asks my why I'm smiling or what is so funny I won't be able to tell them.

that microphone "cake" is really a cupcake cake. O.o

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterangie

Oversized mortar boards , "Brains" and a 😰😰😰? Oh my!

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

What does it say about me that I immediately recognized the microphone as such? It wouldn't be so bad if not for the insane color choice.

The professionally correct purple floral cake is absolutely gorgeous! How did they do that?

Nothing like the Big O to spruce up an angry vagina.

that last cake looks like its for Oprahs birthday

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLissa

They should have dropped that cake.
SO, are we to understand that they now celebrate a first "O" with cake?? I didn't get one!! (I mean the cake.)
Classic Steve: What that says about you is that your mind isn't always in the gutter. Stick around; there's still hope.

The bride passive-aggressively lets the groom know what she expects out of this marriage!

[Intelligence 9] If you wanted to differentiate the "0" and "O," just put a slash through the zero.

Please someone be gee-tastic enough to get that reference...

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLadybugFaerie

geek*-tastic... Ugh! Can't type properly today!

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLadybugFaerie

The last one would be perfectly acceptable minus the topper, or with a different one. The flowers actually show considerable decorating skill, and I don't have a problem with the yellow-and-purple color scheme.

On a positive note, the lettering on Brain's birthday cake is exceptional.

Hufflepuffs always lose their socks because... something something nargles? It's been ages since I've read those.

In honor of Andrea's everywhere, I 'ptooie' in that first cake's general direction. (no, it's not a CCC, but I 'ptooie' anyway!)

Ah! Is it Abby Normal's birthday already?

Looks like someone already dropped the mic...right into the freshly laid asphalt. Did anyone else notice the mic has a cord?

You may have ruined me, Jen, but that last one doesn't look all that bad. Remove the Big O topper and it's sorta nice.

I think the Brain cake was decorated by Pinky. 'Splains everything.

Henceforth, turkey poo wang wrecks shall also be known as Tahliawackers.

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLuLu

I was really afraid to scroll down past the nice wedding cake. I was right.

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly

@LuLu "Tahliawackers"! Just snorted half a glass of tea up my nose.

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

It's hard not to read that first cake from a feminist perspective: "Congrats, Andrea, but remember that some people will still care more about your body than your mind."

Nice that Pinky remembered Brain's birthday.

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

"Gee, what do you wabt to do on your birthday, Brain?"

"The same thing we do every day, Pinky - Try to take over the world!"

June 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

I think the Bride asked for "a big flower and nothing on top."

June 13, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMaggie Magpie

Why not? That last one is perfect for a wedding cake. (Well the top of it sure is, anyway.)

It sure wasn't a "Brain" who decorated the second cake!! (At least this one didn't write "Sprinkles" or "Ribbon curls" or "whatever those triangular white things are supposed to be because they don't look like candles."

June 13, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBea

Lol that last cake. Wow.. what a big O they have there. That mic cake would make me choke with laughter especially when they opened the box. Oh what a thrill that had to have been lol.

June 13, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

the first one - Congrate???

June 13, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBetty

But, but... Hufflepuffs are particularly good finders! How can we lose our socks?!

June 14, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

As for the wedding cake. Kudos for trying. Don't get the topper, and colors, but who argues with a bride?

At least the flower stayed together on the cake. That cake could be much much worse.
