What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Get Used to Disappointment

It's time once again to take all your lofty dreams of realized cake-ordering expectations... and douse them with the bitter dregs of cold, hard reality.

Oh, yeah. It's gonna be THAT good.

What they ordered:

What they got:

And here I thought all carrots grew under the ground.

A tip of the hat for an exceptionally crumby job.

Finally. A baby cake I wouldn't mind cutting.

Happy day at the pool:

Nightmare at La Brea Tar Pits:

Anyone else having flashbacks of Tasha Yar's death scene?

Thanks to Megan G., Candace R., Alisha T., Catie S., & Suzanne S., who all "exceed expectations." Mostly because my expectations are really, really low.

I'm sorry, I'm kind of stuck on Tinker Bell Dangler...........................................................
Okay, I'll go back and read the rest of the post now. Tinker Bell Dangler...

I just looked at these with my son and when we got to the baseball hat one he said, "That looks like blue poop with a word on it." And yikes the random crumbs/sand/whaaat?

@Subee, sing the "It's a Small Word" song and maybe that will distract you. Now, as to how you're supposed to erase that song from your head, I don't have a good answer.

The Tar Pits cake made me snort*laugh. Out loud. At work.

Yes, I DO remember Tasha...
...that cake in no way resembles the inspiration cake. Even looking at it with one eye closed, and squinting, in low light, there is zero resemblance. How on earth was this baker able to convince the recipient it is what was ordered???

What's up with the random bracelet dangling from the tinker bell cake?

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMary

1>The kid's 3.... too young to know how happy carrots can get.
2>I think the judicious use of graham cracker crumbs is the perfect medium to simulate the "kicked-up, sandlot baseball"feel! (That, or the feel of a kid whose head has exploded. And on his birthday, too. How sad.
3> Crying-baby head (again)...still looks like the baby-turned-pig from Alice in Wonderland! *snort*.
4>"Pool Party"> a:Cute, but I didn't know that people dumped sand around the outside of those. Fun!
b: "Keep going, guys--you're almost there! Don't give up! Go toward the LIGHT!!!"
("Get used to disappointment?" Good one!) =^~.~^=

I came back to show someone the Tinker Bell Dangler (Tinker Bell Dangler!) and I noticed something. What is that behind Tink on Marissa's cake? It looks like Peter Pan's leg. What the hell is going on there? Does Peter Pan have a dangler, too?

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Okay - your captions for the pool wreck cake made me laugh out loud at WORK!!! Your posts always brighten my day - thank you!

I was in the middle of taking a big sip of tea when I got to the Le Brea tar pits cake. You may fill in the blank.

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSkatie

@SuBee: Ay caramba--of COURSE Mr. Pan has a dangler... It's just not quite like what Tink has. His is...oh, for corn's sake...come back after the lost boys are in bed, and we'll go over it ...(poor choice of words?)...

Am I the only one reminded of The Dutchess's Baby (who turns into a pig) from Alice in Wonderland with the second baby face cake?

“Speak roughly to your little boy,
And beat him when he sneezes:
He only does it to annoy,
Because he knows it teases."

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterOlivia

Is that even frosting on the "baseball cap" cake? It looks like blue play-doh. Which is non-toxic & all, but still...

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGina

The baby cake would have worked if the occasion was a retirement. Or a colonoscopy.

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLola

It's a dangler after all
It's a dangler after all
It's a dangler after all
For a small, small girl

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

By rubbing my eyes vigorously with panko, then squinting them up REAL tight and wearing my glasses from 1994, the last cake almost appears to be a different ide to summer, "JAWS". really.
Now if only i could unsee that crying baby cake...arrrrrgggh!

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

So, they ordered a Tinkerbell Dangler cake but got one without the Dangle bit? The tacky plastic bracelet doesn't compensate!

La Brea tar pits! 😂😂😂

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterStiria_the_fast_one

At first the page didn't load fully, so under the first "ordered" was a big blue blank spot. I thought, "Ordered: nothing. Got: Cake!" and I didn't see a problem with that at all.

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCaren

SuBee - it's no behind Tink, it *is* Tink, she's laying down on the flower.

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSini

Oh, yes, poor Tasha Yar! What a shock that was...! And here are four of her in this cake, evidently....
Either that, or they are fat orange spotchy pipecleaners.... In a tar pit. The epitome of summer fun! (on SOME planet, I'm sure...??)

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEmmay

Oh....oh my....hee hee hee....oh dear... I probably shouldn't have reviewed 15 pages of Cake Wrecks in one evening. Now my stomach hurts, and I've been howling like a coyote. And "The La Brea Tar Pits" made me cackle...twice. Please accept my thanks for creating an indelible record of this ridiculousness to the Interwebs.

June 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJMixx

The "got" crying baby reminds me of the man in the moon in that really early day movie - the one where the rocket flies into its eye. Except for the pig nose.

Tinker Bell Dangler is my new Drag Name.

Loved your TNG reference!!!
How could they still sell that one with all of the black frosting that seems to be taking over the cake? Or did they want an interpretation of what would happen if the earth were to start moving closer to the sun?

June 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSpooky

I was giggling by the time I got to the last wreck, then I chuckled...Followed in quick succession by lol'd, and then howled and wheeze-laughed! I haven't laughed so hard in, well, I don't know how long!

Poor Tasha, we yar-dly knew ye.

The tar cake oh man the laughing that won't stop any time soon. Oh these wreckerators are just cheering me up this week lol.

June 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

You had me at Tasha Yar! Or should that be TARsha Yar?

June 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDeanna

I've never yet seen a baby cake I wouldn't mind cutting.

Where are these people going to order these cakes? When I order custom cakes, I know I will pay $150 and up. Are they expecting quality, but being cheap? Lets be realistic people, make sure you go to a professional that went to school and learned how to decorate a cake. Not someone that a friend told you about and makes cakes at home.

@Sendingtheclowns & @Olivia, I immediately thought of the Duchess' Baby on Alice in Wonderland. That or W.C. Fields in a baby get up!
