What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Friday Favs 5/1/15

Some of my favorite new submission this week.

Bakers, take a note:

Some of you will get that reference.

And that's enough for me.

Sometimes I think I should just let you guys do the captions, though.

For example, Patty titled this one, "Spring! Butterfly love!"

And combined with that insane-eyed vomit pile there it just cracked. me. UP.

Then there was this e-mail, which had only a single word:

[mic drop]

This week! On E! True Hollywood Story! How one lovable sidekick:

Really hit the powder:

Oh, Olaf, say it isn't so.

And finally, they didn't want any writing, so they asked for the Alligator cake "as is."

Sadly, they didn't get it.

But then again, neither did the baker.

Thanks to Laura E., Patty M., Jane, Julie V., & Staci O. for reminding me of this snippet of wisdom from Twitter:

That first one should be "Spring,Butterfly,Windshield"

Ah, I love The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMisti

The first one was so nicely decorated, too. Reminds me of the time I tried unsuccessfully to explain to my 10 year old that # sometimes meant NUMBER, not hashtag.

"Ladylike" - ugh...can't unsee...need eye bleach

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCC

"My name is Olaf--" "Hi, Olaf." "--and I like warm drugs."

*simultaneous laughing and vomiting*

I think that "Ladylike" umm.. whatever that is, might just be worse than the giving birth cakes. It's a toss-up. Which is what just happened to my breakfast. O.O

Is that Spring/Butterfly/Gag me! cake a huge tower? And is it really $99.99?!

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Well with the first one I actually don't blame the baker, people are obsessed with hashtags, I'm sure someone has asked for it on their cake before.

Eeeeek! It's the illusive crocagator!
Messed up lady bits cannot be unseen.
As my dad useta say when a bug (or butterfly) hit the car windshield, Betcha he ain't got the guts to try that again!

I can't believe I am defending a wreckerator, but I feel the Alligator cakes was at least partially the customer's fault...

At Disneyland, I took the sketch class and we learned how to draw Olaf's face. I must have missed the part where Olaf was supposed to have sleep deprivation/druggie eyes.

I prefer to believe this is Olaf juuuust before he dons his Batman mask for a little Batty Cosplay.

Except, Olaf honey, Batman uses darker eyeliner. Oh yes, I'm sure it *is* much harder to put eyeliner on snow than on skin. I'm sure it will be fine as long as you remember, no nipples.

LOL Jodi, I was just going to comment on the price of the____butterfly! (I honestly can't think of an appropriate adjective, lol) and LADYLIKE!!! lolol! That is the best lewdly demure caption ever! As for Olaf, it's a shame his mascara ran...or was it intentional?.. round cakes are not easy to stack and they did a great job....the cake itself and structure seem sound so maybe he was designed to look that way?

The first cake decorator must've had a traumatic childhood of being taught piano lessons by a strict teacher...

I read it as (pound) music notes.

Less said about butterfly and anatomy ephamism cakes the better.

Olaf the description is perfect.

And have you met my alligator Asis? Can't miss him - has a broken snout and is two feet short.

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermelmac

Ladylike! Hilarious!

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDrockbox

*After* a while, crocodile.

"Ladylike" gets my vote for best caption. Aaand, now I have the Unbreakable Kimmy Scmidt theme song earworm again (unbreakable, they alive, dammit--it's a miracle!).

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commentergrrljock

It used to be that to most people, # meant "number." To many others, computer programmers in particular, # was a "pound sign." To musicians, # meant "sharp." And today, most people read # as "hashtag."

But to me, # will always be an "octothorpe."

I encourage you all to join with me. Save the octothorpe. Don't let them turn it into hash.

The "anatomy ephamism" comment reminded me of a tee-shirt I saw recently that made me laugh. It said,

"Sometimes I use words
I don't understand
so I can sound more

Sometimes I find the irony of spelling and grammar wrecks in the comments funnier than the cakes.

I was just thinking...If the little ccc in the box in the last photo isn't totally thrilled to be "Asis", it can always crawl on out of there, climb onto an old *preppy* polo shirt and call itself an "Izod". =^-.-^=

@Ella ...doing my job I guess. :-/

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermelmac

Has anyone else heard that Bisney bought the rights to The Walking Dead?

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLuLu

"Ladylike" ... is, um, a bit *too* ladylike for me! Is it just me, or does Asis the alligator's nose fall into the "unintentionally erotic" category?

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterkchuk

Looks like Olaf has had a little too much "snow."

May 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

Oh man I need to borrow some brain bleach for that lady like cake.. ewwwwww. The turd butterfly made me giggle though as did the rest of these lol.

May 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

The first one looks like a color palette vomited all over the cake instead of a butterfly.

May 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJenn Won

That butterfly cake looks like a psychedelic nightmare!😵😱😵

May 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

I have two words: pinot noir!!!!!

May 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterH

Olaf looks almost credible -- but something went wrong with the metallic eyelid paint, and made him look like a junkie.
