What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

10 Sunday Sweets I'd Make For Valentines If I Could

Valentines Day is this week, Sweets fans! Who wants to craft a gorgeous showstopper cake like this for your SO?

(By Made With Love, England)

And who wants to just look at gorgeous cakes, pick your favorite, and then THINK about making it?

(By Nasa Mala Zavrzlama, Serbia)

Yep, totally with you.

How about this dramatic number:

(By VIP Torte Minsk, Belarus)

Oooh, I feel under-dressed just looking at it. John! Go put on a tuxedo!

(By Jane Cakes, Russia)

D'aww, look at those hand-painted cuties!

Maybe that's too much red for you, though. Maybe you're feeling a little... blue?

(By Blacksun, Slovakia)

I love these colors together! That bottom tier especially is magic.

Or how about some hot pink?

(By Sophia Fox, Portugal)

The heart geode on top is all sugar. I like the hearts down the side even better, though; they remind me of a sweet glass wind chime.

Gotta have some soft pastels in here, too:

This one has my heart all atwitter.

(Eh? EH?)

But of course red roses are classic:

(By Moli Cakes in Slovakia)

Really digging the black and white outlining; it makes them look like a 2D painting come to life, right?

Speaking of a mix of 2D and 3D, look at this fabulous pile of ruffles:

And finally, a Valentine Sweet guaranteed to make a splash:

[Baker unknown, help?]

That sugar glass wave is incredible! Hey John, let's pretend I made this one for you, k?

Happy Valentines week, everyone! May you find lots of chocolate, laughter, and hugs.

Ya know, when the world gets crazy and I can't visit my favorite blog everyday, I can always trust that Sundays will have a special cake that speaks to me when I visit. I love the pink and white cake with the geode on top. It is calling me with its subtle tones and edgy shards.

The last cake says "Thank you". That's all I've got. My usual search tools don't work anymore. I blame GDPR.

What's even more interesting is that the bottom one just says "thank you' (in very nice handwriting, IMO). That's quite a cake for "thanks"!

Christopher-- Yes, it does say "Thank you". I took Russian in college, and while I've forgotten a lot (most) of it, that I do remember!

I think it's by Torty na zakaz (Cakes To Order) in Rostov-na-Donu

That third did they do that gorgeous texture? It looks almost like cookie crumble (mmm, cookies).

I feel bad, but I really want to see the wrecked version of the third one.

Black icing with random bleeding pustules

I'm imagining the first one made of solid icing... and now all the rest made the same way... solid icing!!! 8-d
